And they stood firm when landscapers arrived earlier this month to rip it up after a legal row.
Great-grandad Des, 80, of Cumbernauld, said: 'They came to demolish the fence and the patio, cut down the tree, take away the hut and sow down grass.
"I explained I'd been here for 55 years.'
The bemused workers then made a call and an official showed up to talk to Des. He said: 'It's quite disturbing.'
Tensions first arose in May 2023 when former roofer Des refused contractors access to the back garden to fix a leak at his neighbours' property.
Two months later North Lanarkshire Council told him it owned the patch of ground.
A sheriff in Airdrie sided with the local authority.
Last April Des was given 28 days to remove 'all property and fencing'.
North Lanarkshire Council said: 'We noted the sheriff's ruling. Our officers and contractors attended the property but were denied entry.
'We can't comment further on ongoing legal matters.'
I'm being forced to tear down my loft conversion - my neighbours call it a 'monstrosity' but I'm going to fight back
It comes after we told how Lewis Capaldi is locked in a battle with his neighbours over plans for a new fence.
The Someone You Loved singer, 28, hopes to beef up privacy with a 6ft-high wooden barrier around the grounds of his farmhouse, near Glasgow.
But resident Adam Dunwoodie has objected to the star's planning application claiming an existing fence has already had a 'significant adverse impact' on his home life.
He said he understands Lewis's 'desire for security and privacy' but argued the height of the proposed partition would be 'oppressive'.

Diver rescued after surviving for 5 DAYS in underwater cave.. and had incredible first request after being saved

His oxygen tank was down to just four per cent when he was found DIVE DRAMA Diver rescued after surviving for 5 DAYS in underwater cave.. and had incredible first request after being saved Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A DIVER was miraculously rescued after five days trapped in an underwater cave. Wang, from Hunan province in central China, was pulled from the water seemingly unscathed but had one very specific request. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 Wang was rescued after five days underwater 2 A rescue team said they heard what sounded like knocks on the cave's surface Buried nine metres below the surface, the 40-year-old diving enthusiast lived off a diet of raw fish before he was astonishingly rescued. He survived thanks to an air pocket that allowed him to breathe in the water. His first words to his rescuers were: 'Do you have a cigarette?' He reportedly went missing just five minutes after plunging into the river with a friend, where he became trapped in the water's complex network of caves. Cops immediately launched a search operation with the help of Xiangxi Shuguans Rescue team and special police forces, South China Morning Post reports. A specialist team carried out two initial deep dives when they heard what sounded like someone knocking on the rocks. They switched off the boat engines to get a better listen but the sound didn't return. On their third dive, they spotted Wang - whose oxygen supply had dropped to just four per cent at this point - who lunged into the water waving his flashlight. Tian Yanglin, the captain of the rescue team, said 'that moment was his last chance." Wang didn't sustain any injuries and even walked to the ambulance. His story has sparked widespread discussion online with many calling his rescue a "miracle". Tourist found dead in jaws of shark with arm ripped off as another diver drowns after being swept away from scuba group One person said: 'Nine metres underwater, pitch black, survived for five days. Unbelievable. A true miracle. His mind did not collapse. What incredible willpower!' 'To survive five days and still be in good condition, he is not just lucky, he is superhuman,' said another. While a third asked: 'It must have been pitch black in that cave. I am really wondering, how did he manage to catch fish?' This isn't the first time a diver has been rescued alive from perilous waters. In 2016, a terrified scuba diver was found after being lost at sea for more than 14 hours in shark-infested waters. Incredible footage showed the 68-year-old being tossed around in the waves off the coast of Australia before he is winched to safety. He had been exploring wreck of the SS Yongala alone in the Coral Sea before he failed to return. The diver was eventually found by a search helicopter off the coast of Queensland more than 30 miles away from the shipwreck.

The teenager fled the woman's room after she resisted and screamed, detectives said. He has since been placed in a juvenile detention centre in the Spanish holiday hotspot. Before he was remanded he appeared at a youth court and was barred from leaving Spain while the investigation continues. The ordeal unfolded during 'busy daylight hours' on July 31 according to police, with a source saying it occurred around 3pm. A spokesperson for Spain's National Police in Tenerife said on Thursday: "Officers have arrested a minor aged 16 as the alleged author of an attempted sex attack on July 31 at a hotel in the municipality of Arona. "The quick work of officers led to his rapid location and arrest, preventing the possibility of further attacks." They added: "The incident occurred at the door of one of the rooms of the hotel where the victim, aged 22, was approached by an individual who managed to sneak in behind her. "She resisted, screaming to raise the alarm, and managing to prevent the attacker from closing the door behind him who reacted by fleeing the scene." Cops also noted that CCTV cameras enabled them to "reconstruct the events of that day and follow the suspect's movement". Brute GUILTY of raping & murdering ex-fiancee at hotel after he lured her into 'final farewell' dinner for his birthday This helped them to locate and arrest the teenager at the pool of the nearby hotel. The police source said: "Both the teenage boy and the woman are British. "She was holidaying alone and he was with his family." Another source said: "The CCTV images police obtained showed this lad appeared to be on the prowl after entering a hotel he wasn't staying at. "He didn't know the older woman. She was a complete stranger." It is currently unclear which hotel the alleged attack took place at. But the ordeal reportedly took place on Avenida de Las Americas in southern Tenerife. It comes after four men were arrested in Greece over allegations they filmed a British woman having sex before sharing the video via their phones. Greek cops from Aktio-Vonitsa Police Station conducted the arrests in late July in the Palairos area. And on July 24, a Brit teenager was allegedly raped in the sea off a popular Greek holiday island. The 16-year-old girl reported the alleged assault on Monday during a trip with her family. The alleged attack was said to have happened in broad daylight at Rhodes' Ialysos beach - in front of a hotel packed with guests. According to Greek outlet Dimokratiki, the girl approached cops with her father around 5.50pm local time. More to follow...
