Disney+ to livestream first-ever movie premiere with 'Fantastic Four' event

Express Tribune17-07-2025
Marvel is pulling out all the stops for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, debuting the franchise's most ambitious reboot yet, and marking a major first for Disney+. For the first time ever, the studio is livestreaming a movie premiere on its streaming platform, giving subscribers front-row access to the blue carpet and exclusive footage ahead of the July 25 theatrical release.
Set at the iconic Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles, the premiere livestream begins July 21 at 7 p.m. PT and will feature real-time interviews with the star-studded cast: Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. Also appearing will be Ralph Ineson, Julia Garner, Natasha Lyonne, and key Marvel figures including Kevin Feige and director Matt Shakman. Composer Michael Giacchino will also make an appearance.
But the premiere is more than just a spectacle, it offers a preview of Marvel's bold new direction. The film reimagines the Fantastic Four in a retro-futuristic 1960s New York, setting the tone for what the studio hopes is a wildly original chapter in the MCU. It's also deeply personal: the team's first villain is Galactus, and the cosmic threat takes aim directly at Reed and Sue's family, demanding their child in exchange for Earth's survival.
While fans won't see the full movie on Disney+, they will get an early taste of what's to come, making the event essential viewing for die-hard Marvel followers. And with Disney experimenting with live events like this, it may signal a larger shift in how the studio engages its audience.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in theatres July 25.

George Lucas makes Comic-Con debut for Lucas Museum of Narrative Art

SAN DIEGO: Excited fans waved glowing 'Star Wars' lightsabers on Sunday at the San Diego Comic-Con panel for George Lucas' latest project, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Along with Lucas, the panel included director Guillermo del Toro and Doug Chiang, vice president of Disney's Lucasfilm, with Queen Latifah moderating at the San Diego Convention Center. Attendees shouted 'Lucas! Lucas! Lucas!' and clapped their hands in anticipation of the 'Star Wars' creator's arrival, and gave the 81-year-old Lucas a standing ovation as he took his seat. 'Opening in 2026, the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art is a first-of-its-kind institution dedicated to illustrated storytelling across time, cultures, and media,' a press release from the museum said. The 11-acre campus, in Exposition Park in Los Angeles, will include a green space and a 300,000-square-foot building with galleries, two theaters, a library, restaurant, café, and retail and community spaces. Some of its collection will include art from comic book artist Jack Kirby, painter Norman Rockwell and illustrator Kadir Nelson, as well as a Lucas archive with models, props, concept art and costumes. Superhero films ignite rivalry among Marvel and DC comic fans 'I love all art, no matter what it is,' Lucas said after showing a video that gave a sneak peek at the museum. The video included renderings of the museum interior and exterior, as well as the museum's broad range of art ranging from more traditional fine art and comic book strips to 'Star Wars' sculptures and installations. Lucas began the panel recalling his days as a college student struggling to pursue his dream of becoming an art collector due to the steep cost of fine art. But the filmmaker found an affordable exception with comic books, sold cheaply in 'underground' markets. Now, rather than selling art he collected over around 50 years, Lucas said he prefers to create what he calls a 'temple to the people's art.' Lucas kept the conversation focused on the museum and did not discuss 'Star Wars' or 'Indiana Jones.' For del Toro, the museum offers a visual past that belongs to everyone' and can't be erased, noting that he may move some of his personal art collection to the Lucas Museum. Part of the liberation that comes with narrative art for the 'Pan's Labyrinth' director also means that art can't be made with a computer app, as it lacks 'personality and knowledge.'

Robert Downey Jr may return as Doctor Doom after Avengers Secret Wars

Marvel Studios may not be finished with Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom after the upcoming Avengers films, according to a new report. According to scooper DanielRPK, Marvel is considering extending Downey Jr.'s involvement as Doom beyond Avengers: Doomsday (2026) and Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). Marvel's decision to cast Downey Jr.—famously known for his portrayal of Iron Man—as Doctor Doom marks a bold creative shift as the studio repositions itself following the Infinity Saga. While Thanos was teased over several years and gradually built into a franchise-defining villain, Doctor Doom will have a much shorter runway, having only recently been teased in newer films. Originally, Kang the Conqueror was expected to serve as the next central antagonist. However, behind-the-scenes challenges and lukewarm audience reception reportedly led to Marvel rethinking its long-term narrative plans. Now, with Doctor Doom set to debut in Avengers: Doomsday, Marvel is already weighing the potential of keeping Downey Jr. in the role for future projects beyond Secret Wars. If true, this could suggest the character survives those events or returns through a multiverse scenario—a tactic common in comic adaptations but sometimes criticized for reducing narrative stakes. If Doctor Doom remains central to the MCU, it raises questions about the financial sustainability of continuing with Downey Jr. The actor is reportedly earning over $80 million for the two Avengers films, with total compensation potentially exceeding $100 million. Keeping him on board would require a substantial ongoing investment. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027. Whether Downey Jr. stays on long-term could significantly influence the future tone and structure of Marvel's next saga.

Jessica Alba shows off toned figure after PDA sparks dating buzz with Danny Ramirez

Jessica Alba is embracing a new chapter in her life with a focus on fitness and romance. The 44-year-old Fantastic Four actress turned heads after sharing a series of Instagram photos showcasing her chiseled abs during a scenic beach workout in Los Angeles. The post comes just two days after Alba was spotted passionately kissing her new boyfriend, Top Gun: Maverick star Danny Ramirez. The actress, who filed for divorce from Cash Warren earlier this year after nearly 17 years of marriage, appeared energized and content as she walked a coastal trail dressed in a black sports bra with white trim, matching leggings, and a casual black cap. She completed her athletic look with black sneakers and stylish sunglasses, captioning the post, 'Sunday reset.' In addition to the scenic snaps, Alba shared video clips of her workout, which included stair climbs, a light jog, and a healthy post-exercise meal. Fans were quick to notice her radiant energy, which many attribute to her budding romance with 33-year-old Ramirez. The couple was first seen kissing last weekend and later spotted on a romantic dinner date and vacationing together in Cancun. A source close to the actress revealed that what started as a summer fling is 'taking a surprising turn,' though Alba is reportedly still taking things slow. Jessica and Danny's connection marks a fresh start for the actress, who remains focused on personal growth and family. She shares three children with ex-husband Cash Warren and has emphasized that co-parenting remains a top priority. As her romance with Ramirez heats up, fans are watching closely to see where Alba's fitness, family, and love life head next.
