Browns Ex-First-Rounder Involved In Trade Buzz with Eagles
If the Cleveland Browns are serious about moving off of cornerback Greg Newsome II, as is rumored?
It seems the defending Super Bowl champions from Philadelphia might want to move in.

Philly seems pretty stout in the secondary, with young stars like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, so we're not sure what the attraction to Newsome is ...
Unless there is a sense that the Browns - who selected Newsome in the first round (26th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft - simply want to give up on something that once seems special.
Newsome was named to the All-Rookie Team after finishing his rookie season with 37 combined tackles and nine pass deflections in 12 games. He was good again in 2023 as he posted career-highs with 49 tackles, 14 passes defensed and two interceptions, including a big-time pick-six against Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens.
But he got demoted last year, even after the Browns ended up exercising Newsome's fifth-year option worth $13.37 million guaranteed. And then got hurt, his season ending prematurely when he was placed on IR with a hamstring injury.

It is possible that Cleveland simply doesn't want to give him a contract beyond this year ... and on that note, we wonder if the Eagles really want to absorb Newsome's $13.3 million fully guaranteed contract for 2025.
At just 25 years old, Newsome's best chance for success might be a change of scenery ... especially if that involves chasing a Super Bowl, something that's not likely happening in Cleveland any time soon.

Tua Tagovailoa Potentially On The Move In 2026? One NFL Writer Says It's Possible
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. When Tua Tagovailoa inked a mega-extension in the summer of 2024, it was widely believed that the quarterback would be the face of the Dolphins franchise for years to come. That still should be the case, with Tagovailoa signed through 2028. Yet one NFL writer believes there is a scenario where 2025 could be Tua's final year in South Florida. Sports Illustrated's Connor Orr explored which veteran quarterbacks could be available in 2026, ranking them from Tier 0 ("Impossible Dreams") to Tier 4 ("Fliers"). Tagovailoa was listed alongside Kyler Murray in Tier 1 ("Blockbuster Candidates"). Orr described that duo as "quarterbacks under the age of 30 who are not technically available, but could be worth a phone call should they or their teams underperform in 2025." MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - JULY 28: Tua Tagovailoa #1 of the Miami Dolphins practices at Baptist Health Training Complex on July 28, 2025 in Miami Gardens, Florida. MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA - JULY 28: Tua Tagovailoa #1 of the Miami Dolphins practices at Baptist Health Training Complex on July 28, 2025 in Miami Gardens, Orr recognized that the Dolphins would be hit with historic dead cap hits if they were to move on from Tagovailoa next offseason, he said the penalties would be tolerable if "the Dolphins were to continue the team's trend of trading expensive veterans and committing to a full youth-movement rebuild, including the quarterback position." Additionally, if the Dolphins were to get their next quarterback in the draft, the new QB would come with a comparably minuscule cap hit. Orr made the case that Tagovailoa -- when healthy -- has proven to be an effective NFL quarterback, so teams would be interested in adding him to the right situation. And "if the Dolphins are pivoting regime-wise, or at least toward a new personnel direction, it makes sense to entertain any and all offers." Tagovailoa has started all of his team's games just once (2023) in his five-year NFL career. That season also happened to be his lone Pro Bowl year, when he led the league with 4,624 passing yards while leading the Dolphins to an 11-6 record and a playoff berth. Tagovailoa and the Dolphins lost that postseason game on a frigid night in Kansas City, and they went a disappointing 8-9 last year, with Tagovailoa missing four games early in the year due to suffering his third diagnosed concussion. He also missed the final two games of the season due to a hip injury. Tagovailoa playing anywhere but Miami in 2026 remains a long shot. But if the 2025 season goes poorly and the team moves on from head coach Mike McDaniel and/or general manager Chris Grier, teams will surely come calling to check on the quarterback's availability. And depending on who's taking over, they just might be listening. More NFL: Aaron Jones Doesn't Hold Back About JJ McCarthy, Aaron Rodgers Comparison

49ers reportedly trade for Chiefs receiver Skyy Moore
The San Francisco 49ers agreed to a deal to acquire receiver Skyy Moore from the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. A person familiar with the trade said the teams will swap sixth- and seventh-round picks in 2027 in the deal that sends Moore to San Francisco. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade can't be finalized until Moore passes a physical. Moore was drafted by Kansas City in the second round in 2022 but hasn't produced much in his first three seasons. He had 43 catches for 494 yards and one TD in 36 games. He didn't catch a single pass last season because of a a core muscle injury. Moore did catch a TD pass in the fourth quarter of Kansas City's 38-35 win in the Super Bowl against Philadelphia following the 2022 season. Moore had an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of a preseason game last Friday at Seattle. The 49ers have gone 227 consecutive regular-season games without a punt return touchdown for the second longest active drought in the NFL. The Niners were in dire need of healthy receivers. Brandon Aiyuk is working his way back from major knee surgery and isn't expected to be able to play until at least Week 6, while fellow starter Jauan Jennings has been out for most of training camp with a calf injury. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday on his radio show that Demarcus Robinson is facing a three-game suspension, pending appeal, after pleading no contest last month to a misdemeanor DUI charge. Rookie Jordan Watkins is out with a high ankle sprain and second-year pro Jacob Cowing is nursing a hamstring injury. Cowing hurt his hamstring the first day of training camp and returned to practice last week. Cowing tweaked the injury on Tuesday and missed practice Wednesday.

Key WR Issues Could Take Bloom Off Vikings As 2025 Season Starts
The Minnesota Vikings want quarterback J.J. McCarthy to go into the start of the season against the Chicago Bears with a full complement of talent on the offensive side of the ball. McCarthy will start his NFL career in the first Monday night football game of the season. A national television audience will get to observe his skills, flaws, talent and creativity. That's a lot of pressure, perhaps quite a bit more than if he would have opened the season in a Sunday game at noon Central Time as one of eight or nine games in the same time slot. The Vikings were a very accomplished 14-3 team last year and that means the league believes the team should be in a number of glamour time slots throughout the 2025 season. Head coach Kevin O'Connell is not worried about the added pressure of a prime time game serving as McCarthy's entry into NFL football. However, he has to be worried about the crew of wide receivers McCarthy will have at his disposal at the start of the season. Justin Jefferson is the Vikings' leader at the position and may be the No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. If he is not, he is no worse than No. 3 behind Ja'Marr Chase of the Bengals and CeeDee Lamb of the Cowboys. The problem is that Jefferson has been battling a hamstring strain throughout training camp. The injury has been described as mild, but it has kept Jefferson from getting on the field in the preseason and working with McCarthy in any of the team's preseason games. Will he be at full speed and on the same page with McCarthy against the Bears in Week 1 or the Atlanta Falcons in Week 2? The answer better be yes, because Jefferson is coming off a season that saw him catch 103 passes for 1,533 yards with 10 touchdowns. Throughout his career, he is averaging 109 catches for 1,641 yards and 9 TDs for every full 17-game season he plays. The Vikings won't have his primary partner on the field in any of their opening three games. No. 2 wideout Jordan Addison has accepted a three-game suspension by the NFL after he pleaded guilty to a 'wet reckless' charge following his DUI arrest in 2024. Addison appears to have a great rapport with McCarthy and he will be missed badly as the Vikings start the season. He is coming off a 63-875-9 season last year, and big things are expected from him once he gets back in the lineup. Lack of depth at wideout could hamper offense Since Addison will be out of the lineup, the Vikings need No. 3 wideout Jalen Nailor to come through with a significant contribution through the first three games. However, the 5-11, 190-pound fourth-year wideout from Michigan State is not at his best. He jammed his hand during the team's combined practice sessions earlier this month with the New England Patriots. Will he be ready to build off the 28-414-6 season he had a year ago? That has not been determined. The Vikings are looking at Lucky Jackson, Tai Felton and Myles Price as those that will try to get McCarthy's career off to a memorable start. If Jefferson is limited in any way, the wide receiver cupboard is not exactly stocked with brilliant talent. A trade for another wideout or a key pickup after teams cut their rosters down to the 53-man limit by August 26 are legitimate possibilities. The situation is not as desperate as it seems, because tight end T.J. Hockenson and running back Aaron Jones are both solid pass catchers. Hockenson is capable of dominating when the team gets in the red zone and Jones can beat most linebackers when he runs circle routes. Jones and backup running Jordan Mason may be the key to the Vikings offense during the first month of the season. Even under the best of circumstances, O'Connell knows that McCarthy's adjustment to the NFL will be a challenge and a top-notch running game will help him quite a bit. Both Jones and Mason have the track record to give the Vikings the production on the ground to turn that strategy into one that will help this team get off to the winning start it must have if the 2025 season is going to be successful.
