Makers announce One Piece Season 3
Making our weekend better, Netflix has officially unveiled the first-look teaser of One Piece : Into the Grand Line, the highly anticipated second season of its hit live-action adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's beloved manga. Following the breakout success of Season 1, which impressed both long time fans and newcomers with its storytelling and diverse casting, the makers gave the thumbs up for Season 3.Set to premiere in 2026, One Piece Season 2 will continue the journey of Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates as they venture into the Grand Line, a sea full of new islands, powerful enemies, and legendary secrets. While Netflix hasn't revealed an exact release date yet, excitement is already building thanks to the newly released images, which tease some of the iconic settings and characters fans have been eager to see brought to life.Making the announcement, the makers captioned, "Attention, Straw Hats! Here's your first look at ONE PIECE: INTO THE GRAND LINE. Season 2 coming 2026. Season 3 production setting sail soon."Production for Season 2 is scheduled to begin later this year in Cape Town, South Africa, which served as the filming location for the first season as well. The new season promises to cover major arcs from the source material, including stops at Loguetown, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, and Drum Island. These locations mark a major shift in tone and scale as the Straw Hats move closer to their ultimate goal, finding the legendary treasure known as the One Piece.Besides this, the makers also introduced some of the key characters from the original manga. Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal will portray Dr. Kureha, the quirky but brilliant doctor from Drum Island. David Dastmalchian steps in as the eccentric Mr. 3, while Sendhil Ramamurthy has been cast as the noble Nefertari Cobra. Perhaps most excitingly, Joe Manganiello will appear as the villainous Mr. 0, also known as Crocodile. The core cast returns with Iñaki Godoy reprising his role as Luffy, joined once again by Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji. Their performances in Season 1 were widely praised for bringing the essence of their animated counterparts, a feat attributed in large part to the guidance of Eiichiro Oda, who remains closely involved in the production. In addition to Season 2's development, Netflix has already greenlit a third season. The announcement came during the annual One Piece Day celebration in Tokyo, confirming the platform's long-term commitment to the franchise. Ian Stokes, who served as co-executive producer on Season 1, will step into a new role as co-showrunner for Season 3, working alongside returning showrunner Joe Tracz.

Decoding Pratik Gandhi's recipe for success
With Gandhi in the Toronto International Film Festival and Saare Jahan Se Accha on Netflix, Pratik Gandhi is fast emerging as the new chameleon in the film world. From playing Harshad Mehta to Mahatma Gandhi and Jyotiba Phule in between, his versatility is quietly making a statement. 'I love human drama. I like exploring different mindsets without judging them,' says Pratik as he stirs his black coffee at a hotel in central Delhi. 'One angle of their lives is known to the world. What is not known to even their family is what was happening in their minds when they were busy changing the world around them. That is the area I want to explore,' he explains. Each biopic presents a unique challenge. With Phule, there was just one photo for reference. In Gandhi, there is a problem of plenty. 'It works both ways. If there were more photographs, I would have to put in more physical effort to look like Phule. I worked on his emotions to make the audience believe in my reflection of Phule. With Gandhi, I didn't want to mimic him. Even with numerous videos and photos, my job is to make you believe, at the 40th or 50th second, that this is Gandhi. It required a little more preparation on my part.' Unconcerned about comparisons with Ben Kingsley and Rajit Kapoor, Pratik says that his theatre background, where he played a young, ordinary Gandhi in Mohan's Masala (Mohan's Recipe), helped shape the character, apart from director Hansal Mehta, with whom it is his fourth project. 'Our bond is such that we can talk without exchanging a word,' says Pratik, adding that an actor carries a bit of writer in him by default. 'Theatre practice brings you close to literature. I can't write on blank paper, but I rewrite what is given to me during the rehearsal process. I constantly check the metre of my dialogue. Here, understanding the nuances of the language is helpful. By using the synonym of a word, an actor can increase the depth of the dialogue.' In Saare Jahan Se Accha, where he has joined hands with director Sumit Purohit, who wrote Scam 1992, Pratik states that the biggest challenge he faced was creating a real-world spy, Vishnu Shankar, posted in Pakistan. 'Spies are supposed to be common guys who don't seek unnecessary attention, living far away from glamour. What we usually see on screen is the opposite. So I had to unlearn the image of a spy in my mind. We have worked on both the behavioural and visual aspects to create a world of the 1970s, an important decade in our history. The lives of spies is all about getting information and communication, but there were no mobiles, and computers were hardly there.' Pratik loved projecting the constant moral dilemma of Vishnu and likes the fact that his Pakistani counterpart, played by Sunny Hinduja, is equally conflicted. 'Vishnu's means may be right for achieving a bigger purpose, but while working towards the goal, he is doing something wrong to those close to him, including his wife, colleagues, and friends. He is doing something big but can't share it with anyone. I get attracted to these complexities, peculiarities, and pressures that a character goes through because it becomes challenging to process and translate to the audience.' Having worked in an engineering job until 2016, Pratik has also juggled family life, his passion for acting, and making ends meet in a challenging world. 'My dilemma was selfish, and if I extrapolate it to Vishnu's dilemma, that is also selfish, but in his mind, he is not being self-seeking because he is doing it for the country. In my case, I was doing it for myself. However, I completely understand the emotion. The constant feeling of guilt is complicated to manage. Ghar par time nahin de pa rahe (Not able to spend time at home), have to manage office as well as rehearsals, whatever reason you might give, you feel a sense of guilt.' What makes Pratik different from his contemporaries is that, with craft, he has lived life. 'When Scam 1992 happened to me, I used to cry that I am getting the chance at 40, but later I thanked God that it happened at 40 because till then I could gather life experiences which helped me profoundly process complex emotions.' But being discovered late by filmmakers limits the options for playing certain parts. 'Yes, I may not fit a college-going character, but if you bring a script, pass kar jayenge (I will pass),' grins Pratik. He reminds me of the lighter parts he played in Madgaon Express and Do Aur Do Pyaar. 'Theatre prepares you to play both raja and vidushak (king and clown) and everything in between.' ALSO READ: Anurag Kashyap blasts CBFC and Brahmin backlash against 'Phule': 'If there's no caste, why are you offended?' But the 'unstructured' film industry has its queer ways. 'I was outrightly rejected by television. I am told that I don't look a conventional hero. Should I take this as a compliment?' asks Pratik with a chuckle In an interview with this journalist, Phule director Anant Mahadevan described Pratik as the new Sanjeev Kumar. Strangely, not many mainstream actors come from Gujarat. 'When I was starting out, we were told that Gujarati actors don't make it big in Hindi cinema because people could smell the Gujarati in their diction. Apart from Sanjeev Kumar, we don't have many mainstream actors from the State. Paresh Rawal made it big as a supporting actor. However, when I came to Mumbai, I realised that those who come from Punjab also sound Punjabi, but they have been accepted as part of the mainstream. I guess OTT has bridged this gap. Now the linguistic flavours don't bother anybody.' Saare Jahan Se Accha will be streaming on Netflix from August 13.

Hrithik Roshan & Jr NTR in Janaab-e-Aali is exactly what a dance-off should not be
It is a shame that Hrithik, who inspired a whole generation to dance, making every song of his the epitome of 'cool', fails to make a mark with his performance in this song. Forget comparing it with classics like his debut with Ek Pal Ka Jeena in Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000) or the slick title track of Dhoom 2 (2006), it does not even come close to Ghungroo of War (2019). Will this song play in clubs and make people hit a PR in gyms or become the favourite of sangeet performances? Absolutely not. Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR coming together on the dance floor should have been the personification of the fire emoji, but their latest song Janaab-e- Aali from War 2 is as lukewarm as it gets. The teaser, featuring two excellent dancers, is so yawn-worthy that you forget it the moment the video is over. People broke their legs trying to imitate the hook step of Naatu Naatu from RRR (2022), when Jr NTR as Komaram Bheem showed a British fellow how to dance and made the world shake a leg. But this latest song, where he has Hrithik in tow, is not good enough to press the rewatch button. 'Disappointing' does not quite sum up the experience of watching Janaab-e-Aali. It makes one miss Tiger Shroff dancing with Hrithik on Jai Jai Shivshankar. Even though that was not the gold standard of dance-offs, the bar is low right now. Also read: See Indian & Pakistani spies as humans, says Netflix spy show Saare Jahan Se Accha actor Confused nostalgia Bollywood dance-offs are the cornerstone of a good ol' masala Bollywood film. Make it rivals' dance-off, and there are extra brownie points. In the '90s, we had Karan (Akshay Kumar) and Deepak (Saif Ali Khan) grooving to the title track of Main Khiladi Tu Anari (1994). Pooja ( Karisma Kapoor) and Nisha (Madhuri Dixit) danced off to instrumental music in Dil To Pagal Hai (1997). Five years later, it was Madhuri Dixit as Chandramukhi along with Aishwarya Rai as Paro in Dola Re Dola of Devdas (2002) making every girl drape a red and white saree, replicating the hook step. But the choreographers of Janaab-e-Aali do not even need to go back two decades in history for inspiration. In 2015, Sanjay Leela Bhansali added Pinga to the list of iconic dance-offs when Kashibai (Priyanka Chopra) and Mastani (Deepika Padukone) made everyone dance in nauvari saree. Last year, with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, we got the third dance-off featuring Madhuri with Vidya Balan in Ami Je Tomar 3.0. Janaab-e-Aali seems to be offering confused nostalgia. The footwork is a mishmash of both Ghungroo and Naatu Naatu, and yet looks unappealing. The production designers took a leaf out of Jai jai Shivshankar, and the lyrics are just bad. This is definitely not the dance-off that has the potential to make audiences race to theatres, just to watch the two actors groove together. A good dance-off is not about finding or adding the latest dance trends or complicated techniques; it should be about making even the non-dancers groove. Janaab-e-Aali makes one want to retreat to the farthest corner of the dance floor and furiously grab the remote to find a good song. Views are personal. (Edited by Aamaan Alam Khan)
