Won't accept three-language policy even in future: Sanjay Raut
Facing mounting opposition to the introduction of Hindi language in Maharashtra schools from classes 1 to 5, the State cabinet on Sunday (June 29) decided to withdraw two GRs (government orders) on the implementation of the three-language policy.
Editorial | Language of unity: On Maharashtra and the issue of Hindi
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis subsequently announced the formation of a committee headed by educationist Narendra Jadhav to suggest the way forward on the language policy.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Raut claimed, "Fadnavis is fond of setting up committees and SITs but does nothing." "Jadhav is respected as an economist, but this committee has no relevance now. We will not accept the three-language policy even in the future," the Rajya Sabha member asserted.
On the 'Marathi Vijay Diwas' celebration to be jointly organised by the Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) in Mumbai on July 5 following the withdrawal of the GRs, Raut said leaders from both the sides were holding discussions.
"We have invited key leaders and the public. The success of cancellation of the GR belongs to the Marathi people. We are just the organisers. Even MNS chief Raj Thackeray and our leader Uddhav Thackeray have been consulted," he said.
"There's little time left. We cannot personally invite everyone," he added.
Mr. Raut further targeted the Fadnavis-led dispensation, alleging it split the Shiv Sena and the NCP using money, threats, the ED, CBI and the Election Commission.
He also hit out at the Narendra Modi-led central government over the Pahalgam terror attack and for "failing" to establish Pakistan's hand in terror activities in India.
More than 1,000 farmers from Maharashtra died by suicide in the last three months, Mr. Raut claimed, and asked if the prime minister knows about it.
Mr. Raut also said the government was not properly sharing updates on the Ahmedabad plane crash.
Asked about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's upcoming meeting in Delhi and what would it do for the Bharatiya Janata Party, Raut claimed, "RSS and BJP are like brothers. If the RSS wants, it can teach the BJP a lesson. The BJP's strength today is because of the RSS workers' efforts."

Data will be collected using mobile apps available in English, Hindi, and various regional languages during Census 2027, and citizens will have an option for 'self-enumeration' through a dedicated web portal, the Centre announced Monday. 'Census 2027 will be the first digital census in the country and data will be collected using mobile apps – both android and iOS – in English, Hindi and regional languages. Enumerators/Supervisors will use their own mobile device for data collection,' the Registrar General and Census Commissioner under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) posted on X. #Census2027 will be the 1st Digital Census in the country. Data will be collected using Mobile Apps (both Android & iOS) in English, Hindi and regional languages. Enumerators/Supervisors will use their own mobile device for data collection. (6/10) — Census India 2027 (@CensusIndia2027) July 7, 2025 Last month, the government formally announced that the 16th Census of India will take place in two phases, with the reference dates set as March 1, 2027, for most of the country, and October 1, 2026, for snow-bound and remote regions such as Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. This census will also include the first nationwide caste enumeration since 1931. 'Census will be conducted in two phases, phase first; Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) will start from April 2026 and phase two; Population Enumeration (PE) will be conducted. Enumeration of Caste: Caste of household members will be enumerated in ensuing Census,' the post said. The option of self-enumeration through a web portal will be available for both phases: HLO and PE. 'Digital Census initiative is a transformational step towards modernising the Census process. For the first time, technology will be used to collect data and send it electronically to the central server. This will result in early availability of Census data,' the Registrar General said on X. The Registrar General has established a three-tier training structure: national trainer, master trainer, and field trainer, to provide focused and need-based training for each phase of Census 2027. Field trainers will impart training to around 34 lakh enumerators and supervisors, the post added. 'Census 2027 will have a focused publicity campaign for nationwide awareness, inclusive participation, last-mile engagement and support for field operations. It will emphasize on sharing accurate, authentic and timely information ensuring cohesive and effective outreach effort,' it said. For Census 2027, administrative boundaries across India will be frozen on January 1, 2026. States and Union Territories have been requested not to make changes to administrative boundaries between January 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027. In a letter to all states and Union Territories, Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India Mritunjay Kumar Narayan told them to make any proposed changes to the boundaries of administrative units before December 31, 2025, when they will be considered final for the census exercise. He said all villages and towns are divided into uniform enumeration blocks, and for each block, an enumerator is assigned to avoid any miss or repetition during the population count.

MNS leader tried to stop me from filing FIR: Influencer Rajshree More
Social media influencer Rajshree More on Monday alleged that Raheel Sheikh, son of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) state Vice-President Javed Sheikh, assaulted her while intoxicated inside his car, boasted of his connections, and later, attempts were made to dissuade her from filing an FIR. A video that surfaced on Monday showed a nearly naked Raheel Sheikh, shirtless and allegedly drunk, verbally abusing More and identifying himself as the son of an MNS leader. Immediately after, the Shiv Sena-UBT demanded action, and authorities arrested Sheikh on charges of outraging a woman's modesty, negligent driving, and verbal abuse. An FIR was registered at the Amboli Police Station, and he remains in custody. In an exclusive interview with IANS, Rajshree More claimed he deliberately targeted her vehicle, hit it, and endangered nearby pedestrians. "I was driving when his Innova smashed into my vehicle from behind. Then it advanced, struck me again, and damaged my car badly. He didn't stop. He nearly ran over three pedestrians walking in front of me and many more behind. It was a wild, drunken rampage." She further recounted with shock how Sheikh was nearly naked and unapologetic. "He was drunk, his pants had fallen down, and his dirty belly hanging down. He wildly abused me, declaring, 'I am Raheel Sheikh, son of Javed Sheikh. Go to the police station tomorrow morning and find out who my father is'." More said Javed Sheikh tried to convince her not to proceed legally: "They begged me not to file an FIR - 'his career will be ruined'. I asked what 'studying at 27' meant; they couldn't answer. They promised to send him abroad. He's 27 - not exactly a student. I asked how they could trust a drunk behind the wheel. They pleaded for apologies, but I stood firm.' More said, a senior Amboli police officer assured her that the FIR would be properly recorded. By late Sunday, she was "completely satisfied" with the police response. Pressed about the larger stir over Maharashtra's language politics, especially the ongoing Hindi-Marathi tensions, More emphasised that her protest is not anti-Marathi, but against arrogance: "This isn't Marathi vs Non-Marathi. This is Marathi vs Marathi. I told them non-Marathis come here to earn a living, often living far from family. They travel, work hard. Instead of targeting them, Marathi folks should lead by example and work hard themselves." More added that expecting immigrants to learn Marathi overnight is unrealistic. "People struggling to meet basic needs don't have time for language lessons. When you demand Marathi proficiency in 2025, years after moving here, it's unrealistic. Language won't fill potholes or create jobs." Defending her stance, she said: "Of the 45 people working with me, 30 are Marathi, 20 non-Marathi. Language is not a barrier—humanity is. We must speak in whatever tongue we understand. Language alone won't feed us." Describing Rahee Sheikh's actions as "hooliganism", More dismissed any cultural or linguistic justification: "This is not heroism, but cowardly hooliganism fueled by political influence. Wearing a political badge doesn't give one the right to abuse or intimidate." Despite attempts to portray her as politically motivated, More insisted she is not from any political party. "No political allegiance—Congress, BJP, none. If I were affiliated, they'd paint me as biased. But I'm an independent influencer. My clients and colleagues aren't primarily Marathi. I stood up not for politics, but for justice," she added.

Social media influencer Manish Kashyap joins Jan Suraaj
Patna: Social media influencer Manish Kashyap, who recently parted ways with the BJP , on Monday joined political strategist Prashant Kishor 's Jan Suraaj. The induction ceremony took place in the presence of Kishor and other party leaders, with numerous supporters accompanying Kashyap. Kashyap, a social media influencer with nearly one crore subscribers, was arrested by Tamil Nadu police in 2023 for allegedly spreading misinformation about attacks on Bihar migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. He faced multiple FIRs and was booked under various sections of the IPC and IT Act. The social media influencer had joined the BJP before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, hoping to contest from Bihar. However, he resigned from the party, expressing disappointment over what he claimed was the party's "utilitarian approach" towards him during the Delhi assembly elections. Speaking at the joining ceremony, Kashyap emphasised his commitment to Bihar's development and expressed confidence in Kishor's vision. The move is seen as significant given Kashyap's substantial social media following and influence among Bihar's youth, potentially boosting Jan Suraaj's presence in the state's political landscape.
