Julianne Moore Hard-Launches Bottega Veneta's New Era at Cannes
When a designer takes the reins at a luxury house, they typically save their creative debut for a September runway show. Louise Trotter, the new creative director at Bottega Veneta, decided not to wait until Milan Fashion Week to unveil her vision. Instead, she revealed a sneak peek at her agenda for the famed Italian label with Julianne Moore on the 2025 Cannes Film Festival red carpet.
Moore attended the May 18 premiere of Wes Anderson's The Phoenician Scheme in Trotter's very first creation for Bottega Veneta: a black strapless gown styled by Kate Young. The dress featured a subtle wrap effect and a fringe tassel accent secured at Moore's left shoulder. She paired the understated piece with Boucheron drop earrings and pointed-toe heels.
Moore revealed her head-start at wearing New Bottega in an Instagram post later that evening. "Cannes 2025," she wrote. "Thank you @louise_trotter_ for allowing me to wear your first dress for #bottegaveneta ❤️."
Bottega Veneta last appeared on a major red carpet during the 2025 awards season, when Mikey Madison and Demi Moore wore some of former creative director Matthieu Blazy's final designs for the house. Madison's 2025 Golden Globes pick was a gilded gold dress coated in sequins; Moore's SAG Awards look was a strapless leather column gown.
Since then, Bottega Veneta has quietly prepared for the ascent of its next creative director. Louise Trotter's appointment was announced in December, in a cascade of executive switch-ups fashion insiders referred to as "musical chairs." Blazy departed Bottega Veneta the same day for the head design post at Chanel, replacing Virginie Viard.
These C-suite positions have big effects on the red carpet—and the luxury accessories stylish women end up buying. Moore's debut Bottega Veneta gown says Trotter is bringing an avant-minimalist touch to the brand. Her first design was regal and well-crafted, but not overdone. Of course, it's only the very first look. When the runway arrives in September, we'll see her vision in full.

The Best Dishes Eater Chicago Editors Ate This Week: August 1
The editors at Eater Chicago dine out several times a week, if not per day, which means we're always encountering standout dishes that deserve time in the limelight. Here's the very best of everything the team has eaten this week. Coppa from Rose Mary x Cane Pazzo dinner in West Loop A dish from a recent collaboration at Rose Mary. Jeffy Mai/Eater Chicago Rose Mary is consistently one of the city's hottest dining destinations, and this past week, there was extra buzz at the restaurant for a special one-night-only dinner with Cane Pazzo of Charleston, South Carolina. The evening showcased a collaborative menu by local culinary celeb and Top Chef winner Joe Flamm and Cane Pazzo's Mark Bolchoz. Given both chefs' pedigrees in Italian cuisine, it was no surprise that the meal felt like a cohesive vision. The standout course arrived early — a plate of coppa topped with grilled pepper and artichoke relish, and parmesan. It was accompanied by grilled focaccia, and every bite was a reminder that sometimes, quality ingredients shine brightest with the simplest preparations. It's not a dish I'll be able to order again, but one that will linger in my memory for a while. — Jeffy Mai, associate editor, Eater Midwest Double burger from Wolf & Company in West Town A burger from Wolf & Company. Jeffy Mai/Eater Chicago Traversing the 606, or Bloomingdale Trail, is an easy and surefire way to work up an appetite. Luckily for Chicagoans, a new restaurant and marketplace recently opened just steps away from the path on Western Avenue. Wolf & Company is the latest project from the team behind Little Bad Wolf and Gretel, and it certainly has potential. The bi-level space features a restaurant, marketplace, and deli on the first floor, and a breezy second-floor cafe and lounge with plenty of outdoor seating. The menu offers a selection of pizzas, sandwiches, and approachable items like wings and steak frites. But for those who have been to Wolf & Company's older siblings, you probably already know the burgers are fantastic. Well, I'm happy to report that the newcomer's offering is similarly noteworthy. I opted for the double-patty — triple-patty and single-patty mini burgers are also available — and it delivered the salty, umami-rich flavor bomb I was expecting. The burger is dressed with charred onion aioli, pickles, and cheese, and though it doesn't really need much else, you can add optional toppings like an egg, bacon, or fried onion straws. And hey, if you feel a food coma coming on after devouring the burger and a generous helping of curly fries, there's always a 2.7-mile trail nearby to help walk it off. — J.M. Mixed Mushroom and Veggie Dumplings from Union Dumpling House in Lincoln Square Union Dumpling House is solid. Ashok Selvam/Eater Chicago Union Dumpling House isn't for lingering. Customers order from a pair of touchscreen terminals near the entrance and are given a number while workers furiously prepare their chosen dumplings. There are a few flat screens that play an advertisement for the restaurant on a loop, and the acting is magnificent, showing us that dumplings are nutritious, delicious, and suitable for any multicultural group of customers. Theatrics aside, the dumplings are solid and can go toe to toe with any spot in Chinatown. While there are meatier options available, I love the chance to fool my toddler into eating vegetables, and the mixed mushroom and veggie option rose to the occasion. Truth be told, I liked the veggie selection better than lamb, pork, and shrimp selections. Not to say that carnivores won't be happy, but I was quite pleased with the texture of the mushrooms. You could taste the veggies; they weren't some cheap stuffing meant to emulate meat, which is a pet peeve of mine. This spot is good for a quick meal. I just hope they switch that video up or at least turn the volume down a little bit. — Ashok Selvam, lead editor, Eater Midwest Breakfast Sando from Sarima in Wicker Park Breakfast isn't one of my favorite meals. I'd rather grab a protein bar or smoothie and run out the door. Eggs have never been something I look forward to eating. But I've softened over the years and realized a good egg sandwich isn't so bad. Kasama raised the stakes with its Fil-Am classic, as seen on that award-winning comedy on Hulu. Several have since entered the ring, inspired by the combo of eggs and longanissa. Which brings me to Sarima, a new Wicker Park bakery where South Asian and Filipino flavors mingle. For those who don't eat pork, a cohort that includes religious Muslims and vegetarians, breakfast, breakfast sandwiches don't always satisfy, especially as you smell the wonderful aroma of bacon. But it's 2025, and we have the technology. At Sarima, they make bacon tocino out of chicken with outstanding results. The breakfast sandwich, perched on a potato bun, is a quality morning meal with a little pep thanks to a sweet and sour achaar aioli. You can customize it, but the crispy hash brown patty is something. Yes, I feel bad I haven't ordered the dosa yet. But I'll probably ask them to add some of that tocino to really rile up the vegetarian ancestors. At Sarima, Ice Cube gets what he's always wanted: Breakfast with no hog. — A.S.

We're Finally Getting A Holiday Follow-Up After Years Of Asking. While It's Not Exactly What I Wanted, I Am Intrigued
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. For years, there has been buzz and rumors about a sequel to The Holiday as well as multiple shutdowns of said rumors. However, it would seem that the iconic rom-com is finally getting a continuation…However, it's not The Holiday 2. Instead, it's being reported that this iconic movie is being adapted into a limited series over at Apple TV+. While this isn't exactly what I wanted, I have to say, I am intrigued. The Holiday Is Being Adapted Into A TV Show At Apple TV+ The Holiday is considered not only one of the best Christmas movies but one of the best rom-coms. The tale of two single women, who are played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, switching homes and falling in love in their new cities is such a cozy one that so many adore. And now, it seems like a home switch will happen again, but with all new people. It's been reported that The Holiday will be adapted into a limited series at Apple TV+, according to Deadline. Krissie Ducker, who wrote and co-executive-produced the Ella Purnell-led series Sweetpea, will be a writer and EP on this show. It will also be produced by Left Bank Pictures. Along with them, Rob Delaney has signed on as a writer as well. A casting search is reportedly already underway, and the project is looking for well-known actresses to play the leads. This makes sense considering Winslet and Diaz, as well as the actors playing their love interests, Jack Black and Jude Law, were all very well known when they were cast in the 2006 movie. If they find their leads, the series will allegedly get the green light. The downside is, reportedly, Nancy Meyers has no involvement in this new iteration of her story. Obviously, I Wanted The Holiday 2. However, This New Series Has My Attention Now, Meyers not being attached throws up a big caution flag in my mind. However, there are other elements of this new series that make me very, very excited. Specifically, Rob Delaney's involvement really intrigues me. He notably co-created, wrote, and executive-produced the acclaimed Amazon Prime series Catastrophe with Sharon Horgan. That series is about an American man and an Irish woman who hook up and wind up dealing with an accidental pregnancy. It ran for four seasons, which gives me confidence in Delaney's ability to help create a new romantic comedy. Along with that, while he's not attached to star in this Holiday adaptation, Rob Delaney is an amazing actor and romantic lead. From Catastrophe to Dying for Sex (for which he got a 2025 Emmy nomination), he's shown off his comedic, dramatic and romantic acting skills on many occasions. So, personally, I think he'd also be a fun person to actually star in this show as well. So, taking into account who is involved, consider me cautiously optimistic and intrigued when it comes to this new iteration of The Holiday. While it's no The Holiday 2, you better believe I'll be using my Apple TV+ subscription to tune in and see this new take on a beloved rom-com classic. Solve the daily Crossword

Fugly ‘foot condom' toe shoes are back — with celebs, fashionistas stepping into the tacky tootsie trend: ‘Everyone laughs'
After toeing the line for years, the world's most controversial shoe has found its footing — and that's quite a feat. What was once considered the most reviled footwear on the planet is now strutting down runways and racking up waitlists. 4 The world's most controversial shoe has found its footing, Getty Images The Vibram FiveFingers shoe — a glove-like creation with individual slots for each toe — has been deemed the shoe of the summer, despite sparking visceral reactions ranging from laughter to full-blown disgust. Originally launched in 2006 by Italian sport and mountaineering brand Vibram for barefoot running purists, the FiveFingers were designed to mimic the natural movement of the foot. Enthusiasts claimed benefits like improved posture, stronger foot muscles, and better balance. They first gained traction with athletes and outdoor enthusiasts, and quickly became fashion's favorite punching bag. Celebs like Prince Harry, Kate Hudson, and Scarlett Johansson were seen in them over a decade ago. Described by critics as 'foot condoms' and 'the most embarrassing footwear ever made,' the shoes remained firmly outside the style mainstream — until now. This summer, the shoes are selling out worldwide, gracing Vogue spreads, TikTok and runways. 4 The Vibram FiveFingers shoe — a glove-like creation with individual slots for each toe — has been deemed the shoe of the summer, despite sparking visceral reactions ranging from laughter to full-blown disgust. Getty Images They've recently been spotted on fashion-forward celebrities like BLACKPINK's Jennie Kim, model Paloma Elsesser and rapper Doechii; the once-ridiculed shoes are suddenly a hot commodity. Influencers are desperate to find a pair, with some scouring resale sites for months. Several styles are now sold out globally, priced between $100 and $200. Also known as barefoot shoes, the style is now being sold by Margiela Tabis, Balenciaga Crocs, and JNCO jeans. 4 Originally launched in 2006 by Italian sport and mountaineering brand Vibram for barefoot running purists, the FiveFingers were designed to mimic the natural movement of the foot. @melinaft / TikTok According to secondhand platform Depop, searches for 'barefoot toe shoes' have risen 205% this year, with demand for Vibrams specifically spiking by 296% since April. On TikTok, the shoes have become a viral phenomenon. London-based fashion advisor Emma Hope posted a TikTok video of herself riding the Tube in her pair, captioned: 'POV: people on the Tube are laughing at your freaky toe shoes.' Fashion influencer Abby Walker shared a TikTok video of herself dancing around in her shoes — only to whine, 'everyone laughs at my shoes.' Although most people on the app seem to love the accessory, someone commented that they are 'actually the hottest shoes rn,' on a TikTok video of @daisypyo styling her pair. 'Idk what it is but these feel like the mostttt cutie feminine shoe, but they are always sold out,' someone else commented on a similar video of @melinaft styling her pink pair. But the FiveFingers aren't for the faint of heart. One commuter, who goes by @feriliketheboat on TikTok, recorded a fellow passenger wearing them on the London Underground, saying, 'No, this is not acceptable on public transport. Oh my God, they're your toes. Oh, I'm going to throw up. No, get them off.' 4 Described by critics as 'foot condoms' and 'the most embarrassing footwear ever made,' the shoes remained firmly outside the style mainstream — until now. @lucymarygrace / TikTok Another TikTok user, Georgia, complained about constantly having to explain her footwear: 'Every time I wear them, I have to talk to someone about them. It's like I have to give therapy to make people okay with my shoes.' Despite the backlash, support for the shoes is growing. Enthusiasts argue that toe shoes are simply ahead of their time — and maybe always were. Celebs like Prince Harry, Kate Hudson, and Scarlett Johansson were seen in them over a decade ago. Today, it seems the FiveFingers are finally having their moment as part of the broader 'footnaissance.' The resurgence of foot-forward fashion is undeniable — British Vogue even declared in 2023 that 'toes are the new legs.' The broader cultural shift toward unconventional footwear — from Maison Margiela's tabi boots to Nike's split-toe Air Rifts — has helped normalize previously taboo silhouettes. Ballet flats and flip-flops have also walked into the fashion world. So whether you find them fascinating or nauseating, toe shoes have officially stepped into the spotlight.
