Foreign drug mule nabbed in Tawau with syabu worth over RM74,000

TAWAU: An attempt by a foreigner trying to transport over two kilograms of syabu worth RM74,500 into a neighbouring country was thwarted when he was arrested along Jalan Pelabuhan at 9.30 am on July 25. Preliminary police investigations revealed that the 22-year-old suspect was allegedly paid nearly RM4,000 by a drug syndicate from the neighbouring country to smuggle the drug across the border. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspect was arrested after he was found carrying two transparent plastic packets, believed to contain syabu, inside a backpack. 'The suspect did not possess any travel documents and is believed to have entered Malaysia illegally through a rat trail on July 21,' he said. Jasmin added that the suspect had initially been waiting for the right time to exit via the Tawau Public Jetty near the former Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex. However, police intelligence and public tip-offs led to his detection. The suspect was unemployed and had entered the country for the first time solely to collect and deliver the drug to a drug syndicate in his country. 'The suspect was remanded for seven days. Initial urine tests found to be drug-negative,' he said. Jasmin said the case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with police also focusing efforts on identifying the source and network of the syndicate involved. He said that Tawau police remain committed to aggressively combating drug trafficking, especially to ensure legal action is taken against those involved. 'So far this year alone, we have recorded over 30 kilograms of drug seizures. Since I began my duty in Tawau in March 2022, more than 100 kilograms of drugs have been confiscated,' he said. Two Bangladeshi cyclists killed, one hurt in hit-and-run incident in Johor
MUAR: Two Bangladeshi cyclists were killed while another was injured in a hit-and-run incident here. Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said police received a report from the public about the incident, which occurred at around 8.45pm at Parit Salam, Parit Yusuf here on Friday (Aug 1). 'Preliminary investigations found that the three Bangladeshi men, all aged 21, were cycling against the traffic flow from Parit Yusuf towards Bukit Mor. 'They were hit by a vehicle, which could not be identified in terms of its make or registration number, that was heading from Parit Yusuf to Bukit Mor,' he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 2). ACP Raiz Mukhliz said the impact of the crash caused all three victims to be thrown onto the left shoulder of the road. 'Two of the victims suffered head and internal injuries. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second died while receiving treatment at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah's red zone. 'The third victim sustained fractures to his right wrist and shoulder and is currently being treated in the yellow zone of the same hospital,' he added. He said police are still working to identify and locate the driver of the vehicle involved. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a jail term of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of RM50,000 upon conviction. He urged the public to drive cautiously, obey traffic regulations and be vigilant, especially when passing through poorly lit areas. He added anyone who witnessed the accident or has information to contact investigating officer Insp Khairun Izham Noor Yusry at 013-9121508 or head to the Muar traffic police station to assist in the investigation.

Repeat offender stabbed policeman in Pudu while carrying drugs
KUALA LUMPUR: The man who stabbed a police corporal during a patrol in Pudu last week turned aggressive because he was carrying drugs, says Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay. The 56-year-old suspect, a local man, was found to have 14 prior criminal records involving drugs and violent offences. He is currently remanded for seven days until next Thursday, with the case being investigated under Section 307 and Section 186 of the Penal Code for attempted murder and obstructing a public servant, as well as Section 39A(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Speaking to reporters after visiting the injured officer at Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia today, Ayob Khan said Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman of the Pudu police station is in stable condition. "He suffered injuries to the small intestine, with the stab wound about three centimetres wide and seven centimetres deep. Fortunately, it did not hit any vital organs," he said. The officer is now under medical supervision, able to speak but still in pain due to surgery. "God willing, he is expected to recover within one to two weeks," Ayob Khan added. Also present during the visit were Acting Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan. Ayob Khan said police are constantly reviewing their standard operating procedures (SOP), including the need for body cameras among field personnel. At the time of the incident, Mohd Nadzri was not wearing a body camera, although he was on patrol with a colleague. "We have proposed that all personnel, especially those in the Motorcycle Patrol Unit and Mobile Patrol Vehicle Unit, be equipped with body cameras," he said. Wife shocked to learn policeman husband stabbed during patrol
KUALA LUMPUR: The wife of a police corporal stabbed while on patrol in Pudu last week described her shock upon receiving a call from the hospital requesting immediate consent for emergency surgery. Norfazliana Osman, 35, said she was at their home in the Pudu police quarters when Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, contacted her around 1pm on Thursday (July 31). "They said they needed to operate immediately and asked for consent as part of his intestines might need to be removed due to the stab wound,' she told reporters at the hospital today. Her husband, Corporal Mohd Nadzri Sudiman, remains in stable condition but is still weak and requires pain management, she said. "I understand the risks of his job as a policeman, but as a wife, the fear is always there,' said Norfazliana, who has two children aged 11 and seven. She said it is uncertain how long her husband will remain hospitalised, but confirmed their children have been informed of his condition. Earlier, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay visited Mohd Nadzri at the hospital. Also present were Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamed Usuf Jan Mohamad, Bukit Aman Management (Administration) deputy director Datuk Azizee Ismail, Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Mohd Lazim Ismail and Cheras district police chief ACP Aidil Bolhassan.
