Negeri Sembilan hits RM250m revenue, highlights Visit 2026 tourism goals

Malay Mail22-05-2025
SEREMBAN, May 22 — Negeri Sembilan recorded RM250.66 million in state revenue from January until yesterday, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun.
He said the amount represents 42.48 per cent of this year's revenue target of RM590 million and is higher than the figure recorded during the same period last year.
'Negeri Sembilan also attracted investments worth RM7.25 billion last year, which led to the creation of more than 4,600 job opportunities,' he said in his speech at the State Government's 2024 Excellent Service Awards (APC), where 519 recipients were honoured today.
At the event, Aminuddin also launched the official logo for Visit Negeri Sembilan Year 2026 (TMNS2026), which highlights three key tourism segments: beach tourism, ecotourism, and the cultural heritage of Adat Perpatih.
He said the TMNS2026 logo symbolises the state's diverse attractions, including the beach resorts of Port Dickson, the lush rainforests at the tail end of the Titiwangsa Range which offer ecotourism experiences, and the iconic long-roof architecture representing the uniqueness of Adat Perpatih.
Aminuddin added that the selection of these tourism products aligns with the Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) campaign, which focuses on cultural richness, natural beauty, and Malaysia's global appeal.
He emphasised the need to implement various strategic initiatives to achieve the target of 20 million tourist arrivals this year. These include stepping up international promotions through tourism expos, overseas sales missions, and partnerships with both domestic and international travel agents.
He also urged all civil servants in the state to serve as ambassadors for TMNS2026 and to continuously improve and reform work processes to enhance the quality of public service delivery. — Bernama

YTL Green Data Centre positions Malaysia as ASEAN AI hub

KUALA LUMPUR: The YTL Green Data Centre in Kulai, Johor has successfully positioned Malaysia on the global stage as a premier artificial intelligence hub. Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz confirmed the facility now establishes the nation as the AI Centre of Excellence for the entire ASEAN region. This landmark achievement stems from a strategic collaboration between YTL Power International Bhd and technology leader NVIDIA. The partnership focuses on developing cutting-edge AI infrastructure powered entirely by green energy solutions. Tengku Zafrul highlighted the project's immense scale and transformative potential for the local economy. This mega project worth RM10 billion will not only create Malaysia's own large language model (LLM), but will also stimulate the growth of local talent and expertise. He further emphasised the significant job creation this initiative will drive across the high-tech sector. The development is set to generate substantial demand for specialised positions such as data scientists and AI engineers. The minister's Facebook post provided crucial context regarding the project's prestigious backing. YTL is one of five NVIDIA Cloud Partners along with other technology giants such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud. This exclusive partnership underscores the project's global significance and technical credibility. Tengku Zafrul also connected this success directly to high-level governmental engagement. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's meeting with NVIDIA boss Jensen Huang was not just an empty chat. He proudly concluded that the nation has successfully turned its potential into a concrete reality. - Bernama

Negeri Sembilan investment strong mid-year 2025, says MB

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun is confident that the state is on the right track to achieve its RM10 billion investment target for 2025. This confidence is driven by a strong influx of new investments recorded in the first half of the year. Aminuddin said the state is also expected to attract further investments in the second half of the year. This includes potential investment from a semiconductor company from China. He noted that Gobuilders Netsoft Sdn Bhd had already committed investments during the first quarter. He added that in October, the state government will launch a major industrial project. This launch is in conjunction with the ASEAN Summit. The project is to be developed within the Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) 2.0 corridor. 'Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is also scheduled to officiate the launch of a new national armoured vehicle manufacturing plant. This will occur during the MADANI Rakyat Programme (PMR) 2025 Negeri Sembilan. The event will take place this Saturday,' Aminuddin said after chairing the state executive council meeting. Asked about the total investment figures for the first half of the year, he said that the official numbers would be announced by the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI). This is because several projects are still pending federal-level approvals. Aminuddin also addressed concerns about the impact of the United States' retaliatory tariff policies. He stated that no foreign investors have withdrawn from the state so far. 'To date, no foreign investors have pulled out or halted their investments here. The imposed tariffs have had minimal impact on investment flows, as the rates are not excessively high. As a result, Malaysia remains a preferred destination for investors in the region. 'That is why we continue to see more investors entering the country. This strengthens our confidence that Negeri Sembilan remains one of the top investment destinations,' Aminuddin said. - Bernama

Malaysia waits for Trump's official word on semiconductor tariffs

ISKANDAR PUTERI: Malaysia is waiting for official confirmation from United States (US) President Donald Trump after reports suggested he may impose import tariffs of up to 300 per cent on semiconductors entering the US. Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. said no formal notification has been received. "So far, there has been no decision from the US. We will wait. Once there is an official statement from President Trump himself, we will respond accordingly," he said. On Aug 15, Trump announced that semiconductor import duties could be introduced within two weeks, possibly ranging from 200 to 300 per cent. The US imports most of its semiconductors from Taiwan, Malaysia, Israel, South Korea and Ireland. Last year, Malaysia exported RM119.86 billion worth of electrical and electronic products to the US, about 20 per cent of total exports in the sector. Semiconductor exports to the US alone were RM60.6 billion, also 20 per cent of Malaysia's total. The industry employs more than 72,000 skilled workers and is supported by over 7,200 local suppliers, mostly small and medium enterprises. An estimated 65 per cent of Malaysia's semiconductor exports to the US come from American firms operating locally. Earlier, Tengku Zafrul launched the MBW Innexus Industrial City Project and witnessed a memorandum of understanding signing at the Invest Malaysia Facilitation Centre-Johor in Forest City. Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi attended. Tengku Zafrul said the state with Malaysia's highest investment performance for the second quarter of 2025 will be announced this Friday. "The state with the strongest investment performance in the second quarter, and which is set to lead the country in attracting investments, will be named then. Johor is among the states with a complete investment and business ecosystem to support investor growth. Its prospects remain strong," he said. In June, Johor recorded the country's highest approved investments in the first quarter of 2025 at RM30.1 billion.
