Spartans commit, 3-star TE Eddie Whiting reaffirms MSU commitment following official visit

One of the Spartans' top commits in the 2026 class reaffirmed his commitment to Michigan State following his official visit this weekend.
Spartans commit Eddie Whiting of Sioux Falls, S.D. posted a clear message following his official visit to Michigan State this weekend: "Do Not Disturb." The three-star tight end prospect posted pictures of his official visit to Michigan State this weekend, and with the photos included the song "Do Not Disturb" from Drake.
The post from Whiting can be seen below -- courtesy of 247Sports' Justin Thind:
Whiting is a high-end three-star tight end in the 2026 class. He was once listed as a four-star prospect but his recruiting rating has recently slipped slightly to 88.
Whiting ranks as the No. 28 tight end in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class. He is also listed as the No. 2 player from South Dakota and No. 565 overall prospect in the class.
Michigan State landed Whiting's commitment in February over a number of other big-time programs. He holds offers from nearly 20 schools, with some of those coming from power programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska, UCLA, Washington and Wisconsin.
Retaining Whiting's commitment is a big deal for the Spartans as he is currently one of their highest-rated commits in the 2026 class. There is still plenty of time left in the recruiting cycle for things to change, of course, but this is a great sign for head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff.

Steelers among worst in NFL in getting a lead and keeping it

Steelers among worst in NFL in getting a lead and keeping it One of the calling cards of a Pittsburgh Steelers team under head coach Mike Tomlin have been slow starts on offense. Steelers opening drives have been a running joke for years and no matter how much time the offense has to prepare for that first drive, it almost never yields points. This is why the notion of getting the lead first and keeping it for the entire game is so foreign to the Steelers. Meanwhile, the top teams in the NFL understand the importance of getting a lead and keeping it. Just look at these numbers presented by NFL data scientist extraordinaire Warren Sharp on social media. He grouped teams by how many wins each team had in 2024 where they never trailed. Pittsburgh had only two games last season out of their 10 wins were games where they didn't trail at some point. Meanwhile, Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, won seven games without ever trailing. 7 - GB, BAL, PHI6 - DET, HOU5 - BUF, WAS, TB, NO, MIN, CIN4 - KC, DEN, ARI, LAC, MIA3 - SEA, SF, CAR2 - IND, LAR, PIT, DAL, NE1 - CLE, TEN, JAX, ATL, NYJ0 - NYG, LV, CHI For up-to-date Steelers coverage, news and commentary, be sure to follow us on X @TheSteelersWire and give our Facebook page a like.

Texas A&M is expected to hire Miami coach with exceptional recruiting background

Texas A&M is expected to hire Miami coach with exceptional recruiting background Texas A&M is currently expected to hire David 'Pop' Cooney in a recruiting related role, sources tell @CBSSports/@247Sports. Spent the last eight seasons working at Miami, including three years as director of recruiting and the last two as assistant wide receivers coach.… — Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) June 5, 2025 Texas A&M's 2025 football coaching staff looked complete heading into the summer months. Still, according to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, coach Mike Elko has reportedly snagged one of the top recruiters in the country, as former Miami staffer David "Pop" Cooney will join the Aggie staff ahead of the 2025 season in an unspecified recruiting role. This week, Texas A&M will host a highly talented list of 2026 prospects, including several five-star recruits, as the timing to hire a proven recruiter with an exceptional track record couldn't have been better. This isn't a surprise, given Elko's track record of making staff changes sporadically, which dates back to hiring Lyle Hemphill for the 2025 defensive staff early in the offseason. Concerning two elite prospects in the 2026 recruiting class, Cooney was one of the lead recruiters for five-star wide receiver. LSU commit Tristen Keys, who will take an official visit to Texas A&M over the next two months, while holding a strong relationship with current four-star wide receiver commit Aaron Gregory, who has been receiving strong interest from rival programs, including the Texas Longhorns. As Zenitz notes, Cooney served as Miami's recruiting director for three seasons, while also serving as the program's assistant wide receiver coach. This is a significant boost for Texas A&M's recruiting efforts, especially this week. Other names include former Miami wide receivers Xavier Restrepo and Jacolby George, who are both currently on NFL rosters. University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) head men's basketball coach Khalil Fennellannounced the hiring of Michael Provenzano. Provenzano had been a graduate assistant coach with Michigan State over the last two seasons. While assisting with recruiting, during his time in East Lansing, Provenzano assisted in player personnel scouting reports and on-court individual and group skill development workouts with a focus on the post players. In his playing days, Provenzano was a standout at Simon Fraser University before spending a few years overseas playing professional basketball. Prior to joining Michigan State, where he obtained his masters degree, Provenzano spent two years with the London Basketball Academy and two seasons as the associate head coach with the London Lightning of the National Basketball League of Canada. Provenzano will now embark on his collegiate coaching journey, parlaying his graduate assistantship at MSU into an assistant coaching position with UTRGV, a division one mid major that is a member of the Southland Conference.
