Matt and Emma Willis 'sad' by Netflix decision over Love is Blind

Daily Mirror13 hours ago
Presenting duo Matt and Emma Willis have spoken about the rules on Love Is Blind and how their relationship has been shaped by therapy
Television presenting duo Matt and Emma Willis said they were said when the producers behind Love is Blind made a big decision after the show. Love is Blind is a streaming series on Netflix where equal numbers of single men and women live in separate areas and spend two weeks dating members of the opposite sex in pods where neither one can see the other.

As a result, the focus is meant to be not on how someone looks, but their personality and how one converses with them. During this time period, contestants must decide whether or not they want to be engaged to the other, before spending three weeks in a flat together before deciding, at a wedding ceremony, whether or not to marry their partner.

Busted bassist Matt, 42, and Emma, 49, have been the presenting the UK version of the hit Netflix dating show for the past few years, although recently announced their decision to step back from the accompanying podcast.

But despite building connections with contestants on the show, they revealed they were unable to attend the wedding ceremonies for one key reason.
Matt told the i: 'Apparently they tried this with the American hosts and it was too distracting.' Emma then added: 'We should just get ordained and conduct the ceremonies ourselves!'
The pair's comments as they discussed their own 17-year marriage and the benefits of therapy within a relationship nearly 20-years after they first met through friends.
Emma said that she was the one who made the first move Matt. She said: "I was physically attracted to Matt before I fell in love with him. He was - and still is - the most charismatic person I've ever met. As well as funny and kind.'
Matt added: 'I remember the first time I hung out with Emma. Nothing happened. But I walked back to my hotel thinking: 'Oh my god! That is the coolest f****** girl I've ever met.' I remember that very vividly.'

As well as looking back on the good times in their relationship, the pair have also been open about the difficult times in their marriage and how much therapy has helped them.
Speaking to the BBC about it ahead of their programme 'Change Your Mind' which looked at therapy, Emma said that it had worked well for them and hoped it would work for other people.
She said: 'I think we've both experienced first-hand the effects that it can have.
"For us, we're huge advocates of therapy, if it's accessible to you, or simply talking or finding tools or tips and tricks that can help you.'
Matt added: 'We've been through a journey and an experience. I've had quite a lot of therapy in my life and it's been transformative for me. It's also knowing the work is outside the room as well.'

Cate Blanchett reveals how Squid Game cameo was kept secret and teases spin-off

Cate Blanchett has addressed how her hugely-secretive Squid Game guest appearance in the show's final episode came about and where it could go next. The South Korean Netflix phenomenon bowed out this summer after becoming the biggest show ever to hit the platform, detailing a dystopian death match that's now entered the popular vernacular, with a pink and green wardrobe that's Halloween-ready. Among the many surprises during the final season, at the top of the list was Blanchett, 56, appearing in the final scene as a Squid Game recruiter based in Los Angeles. In the scene, the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) is driving through the city when he looks down an alley and spots Blanchett's character, suited and booted, playing a game of ddakji with a homeless man. The set-up is identical to how Gong Yoo's salesman first recruited Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) on a subway platform at night, playing the same slap-centric version of the game. Blanchett has now said the offer to appear on the show 'came out of the blue' before she agrred to film the top-secret final scene. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video She told Variety: 'Because it's such a cult series and they were shooting in LA of all places, everyone was on a need-to-know basis.' The 56-year-old told the publication that she didn't even do a wardrobe fitting for the unnamed role, instead bringing her own suit to filming and learning 'very quickly' to play ddakji. 'I had to practice and practice,' she said. 'I knew there were four or five setups that they were going to do, and I knew what they needed from every shot, and then I was given the [script pages]. But it was one of the more mysterious jobs.' TV Editor Sabrina Barr shares her take… The final season, which Metro was able to watch in its entirety before the release, is darn near-perfect. Almost. While creator Hwang Dong-hyuk didn't initially have the three seasons mapped out, he concludes the tale of Player 456, Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) in a seamless way that feels as though it was always meant to be a three-part story. As for why season three isn't a clear 10/10, the main qualm I have pertains to a group of characters who are so distracting they bring me back to real life with a sharp jolt – the VIPs. Their presence is jarring and feels unnecessary, even if the intention is to demonstrate who the game is being held for. But, the final moments of season three genuinely made me jaw drop in the best way possible. The chief takeaway from Blanchett's cameo, as well as the scene's reveal that an international version of the Game exists, was that Netflix appeared to be setting up a show spin-off. It's not a suggestion Blanchett denied in the interview. More Trending So could she be the star of a new English-language version of the show? Blanchett says she is 'wildly open to anything'. 'In a world that is so beautifully, magically created like that, for sure,' she said. 'They're amazing world-builders, and that series has been eaten alive. I don't think there's a corner of the globe that it hasn't touched in some way.' View More » Squid Game is available to stream on Netflix. Got a story? JD Vance's secret service 'circus' takes over sleepy Cotswolds village

Locals have been left shell-shocked after US vice-president JD Vance and his secret service motorcade rode into their sleepy hamlet on his very British holiday to the Cotswolds. Taking time off from being ruthlessly mocked in South Park, the US vice president is winding down for the summer holidays in the hamlet of Dean, near Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire. But villagers are being overwhelmed by the 'Men in Black' like security entourage treating 'old ladies like terrorists' and implementing roadblocks that put a burden on the idyllic location. One woman told The Times the village had seen 'one blinking pantomime after the other' and said: 'We are used to the great and good here. Before David Cameron moved in we had Douglas Hurd and he was lovely. 'We have Ben Kingsley in Spelsbury and we see him in the woods walking his dog, but to close off the roads is ridiculous.' The woman told the paper she and a friend had been stopped by police blocking a footpath while walking through the area, and said: 'I told the police 'we are two old ladies, we are hardly terrorists'.' Another local told the Guardian police were knocking on doors asking for personal details of residents and their social media accounts. He said: 'I know several people refused. We asked them if they were protecting us, or Vance. At least they were honest and said it is for him and that it will all be passed on to the American security people.' One local ranted to LBC: 'Generally we like to welcome everybody to Chipping Norton, but no, I'd absolutely kick him in the shins.' Vance is visiting the Cotswolds, nestled in the lush rollinghills, with his wife Usha and children Ewan, Mirabel and Vivek. They are renting a luxurious home from Johnny and Pippa Hornby, who have transformed the Edwardian garden into a 'waterworld' with added swimming pools. In a message seen by The Telegraph, Ms Hornby told neighbours she was 'so sorry for the circus that is there for the next few days', and that she hoped it would not be 'too disruptive'. But JD Vance was mixing business with pleasure as he visited British foreign secretary David Lammy on Saturday. The meeting took place at the Foreign Secretary's official country retreat, Chevening, in Kent, where Mr Vance stayed at the start of his UK jaunt. After the meeting, Mr Lammy said: 'The UK's support for Ukraine remains ironclad as we continue working towards a just and lasting peace.' It is understood that the meeting had been called at Washington's request, and included representatives from the US, Ukraine, France, Germany, Italy, Finland and Poland as well as the UK. Strictly star Alex Kingston's heartbreak before finding love with TV presenter

Strictly star Alex Kingston's heartbreak before finding love with TV presenter The Doctor Who actress has been announced as one of the stars taking part in Strictly Come Dancing 2025. Strictly Come Dancing contestant Alex Kingston endured a turbulent romantic history before discovering happiness with her current husband. ‌ The Doctor Who star, 62, has joined the upcoming series of the popular BBC dancing show as she gets ready to showcase her moves on the ballroom floor. ‌ She won over Doctor Who enthusiasts after securing the part of River Song, with her character featuring during David Tennant, Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi's tenures on the science fiction programme. ‌ Her television work has included appearances in American medical series ER, costume dramas The Fortunes and Misfortunes of Moll Flanders, Arrow and A Discovery of Witches. Alex Kingston is getting ready to put her dancing shoes on (Image: BBC) Alex has been open about her enthusiasm for Strictly, revealing in 2019: "Sarah Hadland and I talked about how much we'd like to do Strictly Come Dancing. Then I discovered she's a trained ballet dancer. 'Hang on a minute! That's not fair!' So, I can't do it on a season when she is on it!" ‌ Beyond her screen work, Alex has experienced considerable romantic disappointment. She first met Oscar-nominated performer Ralph Fiennes at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 1983. The pair married ten years later, though their relationship ended catastrophically when Ralph became involved with a woman 18 years his senior. Alex previously reflected: "We were like strangers – very fragile," reports the Mirror. ‌ "His mother was dying and somehow we thought the wedding was going to heal everything. But that was crazy, of course." Ralph Fiennes and Alex met in the 80s (Image: Ron Galella Collection via Getty Images) In 1995, Ralph starred in Hamlet at Hackney Empire opposite Francesca Annis-who played Gertrude, his character's mother. ‌ Despite the age gap, their affair led to him leaving Alex and confessing his love for Francesca. Ralph, aged 32 at the time, embarked on a romance with Francesca, then 50. Francesca, who has three kids with photographer Patrick Wiseman, reportedly left him for the actor. ‌ Alex revealed the depth of her emotional struggle post-divorce to the Daily Mail, saying: "I was feeling worthless, that I would never find anyone else as good as my husband, which is ridiculous, but I had so little self-esteem. "Divorce is awful but it is also something I don't regret happening to me because it has shaped who I am now." Their relationship came to an end after an affair (Image: NY Daily News via Getty Images) ‌ Ralph and Francesca dated for 10 years between 1997 and 2006 and hit back at age gap concerns. "Of course I don't spend days agonising over the age difference. How can I? There is nothing I can do about it," she once said. "Ralph and I have been together ten years now so, whatever happens, we have had a very good, different relationship and an interesting time." ‌ Their relationship crumbled following explosive claims of infidelity when Romanian singer Corneila Crisan alleged she had conducted a two-year affair with Ralph. Alex has suffered her fair share of heartbreak (Image:for Pragnell) The following day, Ralph and Francesca announced their separation, stating: "Miss Annis confirms today that she and Ralph Fiennes are to separate." ‌ Ralph's affair had a devastating impact on Alex, who confessed to contemplating suicide. She later married German writer Florian Haertel and they welcomed a daughter, Salome, in 2001. However, the couple separated in 2009 and finalised their divorce four years later. Fortunately, Alex has found love again and is now married to TV presenter Jonathan Stamp, with the couple tying the knot in Italy in 2015.
