‘Charmed' stars pay tribute to Julian McMahon after his death at 56: ‘One of a kind'
Julian McMahon, who died at age 56 on Wednesday after a private battle with cancer, starred as the half-demon Cole Turner on the drama, which ran from 1998 to 2006.
The show followed three sisters, Piper Halliwell (Holly Marie Combs), Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty), and Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano), who discover they are witches.

Doherty, who played Prue in the first three seasons of the series, died last July at age 53 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.

After the 'Beverly Hills, 90210' star's departure from the show, Rose McGowan played their half sister Paige Matthews.
Following the news of McMahon's death, Combs, 51, Milano, 52, and McGowan, 51, all took to social media to share their goodbyes to the legendary actor.

'I'm heartbroken,' Milano, who was McMahon's on-screen love interest, said on Instagram. 'Julian McMahon was magic. That smile. That laugh. That talent. That presence. He walked into a room and lit it up—not just with charisma, but with kindness. With mischief. With soulful understanding.'

The 'Melrose Place' actress went on to remember working alongside the 'Fantastic Four' star on the WB hit.
'We spent years together on Charmed—years of scenes, stories, and so many in-between moments. He made me feel safe as an actor. Seen as a woman. He challenged me, teased me, supported me. We were so different, and yet somehow we always understood each other,' continued Milano.

Giving a nod to McMahon's family, Milano concluded, 'My heart is with Kelly, with Madison, and with Iliana—his girls, his world. He adored them. You could feel it in every conversation, every story, every text. He was a family man above all, and he loved deeply.'

Milano's heartbreaking words were accompanied by a slew of photos of her and McMahon, both on and off the air.
Combs also shared a touching sentiment, posting a sweet montage from their time on 'Charmed,' which included a group shot with Brian Krause, who played Leo, and two photos of McMahon and Doherty.
'One of a kind is an understatement,' the 'Pretty Little Liars' alum penned on Instagram Thursday. 'Your unyielding zest for life and crazy making sense of humor will be sorely missed. The joy and laughter you were the direct cause of will always be remembered. I hope you find our lady friend and dance in those rose petals.'

Combs also shared clips of McMahon as Cole on her Instagram Stories, simply putting: 'Rip My favorite pain in the ass ever.'
Krause, 56, took to his own Instagram page to pay tribute.
'Sad day for our Charmed family!' he said alongside a headshot of McMahon. 'Julian was one of the funniest, devilishly handsome and kind souls! Prayers to his family and close friends! He will surely be missed!'

'Goodbye Julian,' McGowan added with a broken heart emoji in her third Instagram Story.
McMahon's wife, Kelly Paniagua, confirmed the devastating news of his passing in a statement to the New York Post on Saturday.

He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible.'
She concluded her message with a call to the public, stating, 'We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. And we wish for all of those to whom Julian brought joy, to continue to find joy in life. We are grateful for the memories.'

Actor Julian McMahon's cause of death was cancer. He died July 2 in Clearwater, Florida after a private battle with cancer, according to his wife, Kelly Paniagua. Paniagua, McMahon's third wife and also an actor, said her husband died peacefully at age 56 in a statement provided to Good Morning America. "With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer," Paniagua said. McMahon, originally from Sydney, Australia, was most famous for his roles as Dr. Christian Troy in the medial drama Nip/Tuck, Cole Turner in supernatural drama Charmed, Dr. Doom in the superhero series Fantastic Four and Jess LaCroix in CBS' crime drama FBI: Most Wanted. He spent roughly six decades in his acting career, with one of his final projects in 2025 being Netflix's The Surfer. Paniagua did not specify what type of cancer McMahon died from and requested she and their family be allowed to grieve in privacy, though she encouraged other to find ways to celebrate through McMahon's work. The American Cancer Society in January 2025 reported cancer deaths had declined by 34 percent from 1991 to 2022 overall, but also noted diagnoses among six of the 10 most common cancers have increased. The six cancers are: breast, prostate, endometrial, pancreatic, kidney and melanoma. 'Continued reductions in cancer mortality because of drops in smoking, better treatment, and earlier detection is certainly great news,' lead author of the report Rebecca Siegel said. 'However, this progress is tempered by rising incidence in young and middle-aged women, who are often the family caregivers, and a shifting cancer burden from men to women, harkening back to the early 1900s when cancer was more common in women.' Actors Joe Marinelli, 68, Valerie Mahaffey, 71, Jay North, 73, Michael Haley, 67, Val Kilmer, 65, Biff Wiff, 76, also died in 2025 after battles with cancer, according to Entertainment Weekly.
