"I am also a sufferer": VP Dhankhar echoes CJI Gavai's call for adherence to official protocol
Speaking at the launch of the book 'The Constitution We Adopted', edited by Senior Advocate Vijay Hansaria, the Vice President said, 'This morning I was reminded of something which is very critical in the country and that is not for oneself. What the present Chief Justice said--we must believe in protocol.'
Referring to recent developments, Dhankhar said, 'Chief Justice of the country and protocol is placed very high. When he indicated this, it was not personal, it was for the position he holds, and I am sure this will be kept in mind by one and all.'
Chief Justice of India Bushan Gavai made the original remarks on Sunday during a felicitation ceremony organised by the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in Mumbai's Dadar.
CJI Gavai said, 'When the Chief Justice of any state visits for the first time, the CP and DG come and meet them. But when told that I came to Mumbai, they didn't come to meet me. I don't want to get into this small thing, but there is some protocol.'
VP Dhankar said, 'In a sense, I am also a sufferer. You have seen the photograph of the President and the Prime Minister but not of the Vice-President. Once I demit the office, I'll ensure that my successor has a photograph. But I am really beholden to the present Chief Justice for inviting attention to the people in bureaucracy, adherence to protocol is fundamental.'
Meanwhile, Congress leader Udit Raj criticised the absence of senior state officials at the felicitation event, calling it an insult to CJI Gavai and a Dalit holding a top constitutional post.
Speaking to ANI, Udit Raj said, 'The Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa organised a felicitation event for CJI Gavai, who is from Maharashtra. It was his first visit after becoming the Chief Justice of India, but the Chief Secretary and DGP were not present. This is a serious breach of protocol. Gavai always speaks about the Constitution, which has three pillars -- the legislature, executive and judiciary -- and the judiciary is led by the Chief Justice. The absence of these top officials is an insult to a Dalit holding such a high post. BJP cannot support Dalits. Modi ji and the Chief Minister should apologise to the people of the country.'
He added, 'CJI Gavai may not have taken it seriously, but we do. This is an insult to the Constitution and to a Dalit. BJP is the B-team when it comes to Dalit issues. They cannot tolerate a Dalit in such a top position.'
He demanded action against the officials, saying, 'The DG Police and Chief Secretary should be removed from their posts for not attending the CJI's event.' (ANI)

Cong won't return to power in 20 years if relief work goes on like this: Kangana
BJP Lok Sabha MP from Mandi, Kangana Ranaut, on Sunday visited her rain-ravaged constituency and asserted that the way relief work is being undertaken, the Congress will not return to power in the state in even 20 years. She added that as an MP, she could only apprise the prime minister of the situation. 'I am deeply pained to see the plight of the people. They have lost family members, houses have been washed away, several people are still missing, but we can only console the families who have lost their kin, and now it is time to provide relief,' the actor said in Thunag panchayat, which was among several place in Mandi struck by a cloudburst incident on Tuesday. This was Ranaut's first visit to the affected areas of her parliamentary constituency since the disaster struck on June 30. Her visit comes two days after she publicly clashed with former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Jai Ram Thakur over the issue of disaster-affected areas. However, on Sunday, both were seen together visiting flood-hit regions in the Seraj Assembly constituency. During a press conference on Friday, Thakur had refused to comment on Ranaut's absence, saying he wouldn't speak about someone who seemed unconcerned with the people. In response, the MP accused him of advicing her not to visit the area until road connectivity was restored. On Saturday, Ranaut wrote on her X account about her scheduled Sunday visit to the affected areas. Ranaut on Sunday reiterated her Himachali and Pahadi identity. 'As a Member of Parliament, my responsibility is to secure funds and convey the ground reality to the government. I don't have an independent fund, officers, or a cabinet. I may not always be visible, but I'm a Himachali, a Pahadi, and I am here for my people,' she said. Taking a dig at the Congress government in the state, Ranaut alleged rampant corruption in the state administration. 'Even in the past, when the Centre sent thousands of crores in disaster aid, the state government misused those. I fear the same might happen again,' she said. 'We must find a way to ensure that relief directly reaches the affected families.' Speaking to the media, she highlighted the damage caused by the cloudburst. 'Thunag and surrounding areas have been severely hit. Roads are destroyed, and connectivity is disrupted. Our government and the administration are closely monitoring the situation, and relief operations are underway,' she said. She added that the Centre responded swiftly by deploying the Army for rescue and relief efforts. 'Though the Prime Minister is on a foreign tour, he is fully aware of the situation on the ground, and the central government has swung into action,' she said. The flood-like conditions in Thunag have left several villages isolated. Restoration of road connectivity remains a key challenge for the authorities. Ranaut and Thakur jointly assessed the damage, especially in Thunag town, where the fomer met with affected residents and expressed solidarity. She assured victims of all possible assistance from the Centre. 'I will demand a special relief package from the central government and advocate for the rehabilitation and resettlement of the affected families,' she said.

Jyoti Malhotra espionage case: Vlogger visited Kerala on official invitation, reveals RTI
Jyoti Malhotra, a 33-year-old vlogger from Haryana who was recently arrested on charges of espionage for Pakistan, had previously visited Kerala, between 2024 and 2025, on an official invitation from the state government, according to a newly surfaced RTI (right to information) response. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Malhotra participated in a tourism promotion initiative organized by the Kerala tourism department, which sponsored a group of social media influencers to boost the state's online presence as a travel hotspot. The RTI reply confirms that the Kerala tourism department fully covered Malhotra's travel, accommodation, and itinerary expenses during her visit, reported by news agency ANI. Kerala tourism minister PA Mohammed Riyas stated on Sunday that the Left-led state government and its ministers would never "knowingly" extend invitations or offer support to individuals involved in espionage. His remarks came in response to questions about BJP leader K Surendran's claim that social media influencer Jyoti Malhotra, arrested in May for allegedly spying for Pakistan, had been invited to Kerala as part of a tourism promotion campaign. Surendran, in a post on the social media platform X, referred to an RTI reply confirming Malhotra's invitation and questioned why "a Pak-linked spy's trip" was funded by Kerala Tourism. The BJP leader had previously made similar allegations on X. Rejecting these claims, Riyas stated that the government and its ministers would never knowingly invite a spy to the state and added that they were not afraid of such propaganda. "We don't give any value to such propaganda as the people are with us," the minister said. According to official records, Jyoti Malhotra visited Kannur, Kozhikode, Kochi, Alappuzha, and Munnar as part of the government's influencer collaboration programme between 2024 and 2025. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Her name appeared among several other digital creators who participated in the initiative between January 2024 and May 2025. Subsequent investigations revealed that Malhotra had made multiple trips to Pakistan and had developed connections with officials linked to Pakistani intelligence agencies, including members of the Pakistan high commission. One of these officials was later expelled by India after their involvement was exposed. Malhotra is among 12 people arrested in a coordinated crackdown across Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, linked to an alleged spy network that reportedly targeted Indian social media influencers to collect intelligence. Her YouTube channel, Travel with Jo, features 487 videos, with a significant number showcasing her travels in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Thailand. One of her earlier viral videos notably showed her wearing a traditional Kerala sari while attending a Theyyam performance in Kannur.

Manish Sisodia, Satyendar Jain, Vijay Nair: The new 'power centres' of Punjab AAP; internal battle in party ahead of 2027 polls
NEW DELHI: New "power centres" have emerged within the ruling (AAP) in Punjab, as its Delhi-based top leadership has decided to spend more time in the border state, the only one which the party currently governs following the defeat in Delhi after over a decade, in February. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The formal beginning came when Punjab affairs were entrusted to senior leaders and former Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendra Jain, . Both Sisodia and Jain were among the AAP heavyweights who lost in the national capital, as did party supremo and ex-CM and Saurabh Bharadwaj, among others. "The ministries have been evenly divided between the two leaders, who are spearheading policy initiatives. While Sisodia is handling key portfolios like finance and education, Jain has health and social welfare related portfolios," Punjab officials who did not be wish to be named, told ET. Earlier, Punjab affairs had been entrusted to Rajya Sabha MPs Raghav Chadha and Sandeep Pathak. However, Chadha is now focusing on creating a profile separate from his party, and Pathak is in-charge of its unit in Chhattisgarh. The Vijay Nair influence Another individual who has emerged as a new power centre here is Vijay Nair, AAP's communications head and an accused in the Delhi liquor policy case. As per party sources, in the middle of the recent Ludhiana West by-election, which the AAP candidate won, Nair asked eight members of Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann's social media team to resign, prompting the Punjab leadership to retaliate. "This (resignation of Mann's social media team) was done by Nair, who said the team's conduct was not above board. Within days, the Punjab leadership sought the resignation of two members of Nair's team involved in media management on the grounds of corruption. The logic was - you got Punjab people sacked, we will drive Delhi people out," a source said. The corruption factor Also, there is "angst" within the cadre which feels the party is no longer what it claimed to work for, especially the anti-corruption plank. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "If you look at the boards and commissions across Punjab, they are filled with Delhi's consultants. They are running the show. The demand for Lokpal was the mainstay of the movement that brought AAP into existence. Where is Lokpal now that AAP is in government?" asked ex-spokesperson Iqbal Singh. Punjab's industry owners also complain - openly - of the "rate of corruption" going up. "The rate of corruption has gone up four or five times. Earlier, just for ease of clearances, four of us industry owners used to pay a liaison person money to get certificates and permissions. There was no illegality but just to expedite the process. Now the person is charging 50% more," the owner of a Ludhiana-base hosiery unit stated. BJP vs AAP Attacking the Kejriwal-led outfit, Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar termed the former as "super CM" and Mann as "de facto CM." "The entire governance has been outsourced. This is the first time that Cabinet meetings are taking place not in the CM's office but at the CM's residence. This gives enough leeway for outsiders to attend these meetings. It is not Mann who is presiding over the Cabinet but Kejriwal and Sisodia," Jakhar alleged. However, state AAP spokesperson Neel Garg defended the leadership's involvement in Punjab affairs. He also denied any "rift" between the two state units. "Delhi is getting involved in a guidance role. When elections take place, it is the party that goes for polls not the government. The central leadership is guiding the party how to run police matters. It is for the benefit of Punjab," Garg said. What next? Sensing it is in a difficult position in Punjab, where its maiden term will end in March 2027 followed by the assembly election, the AAP has launched various initiatives, including one against the drug menace, an emotive issue here. Under "Yudh Nashian Virudh" (War Against Drugs) campaign, the police have apprehended 19,735 smugglers in 120 days. The state government has also introduced the land pooling scheme for the planned development of its cities. It is also looking for investments to fund its welfare initiatives.
