Ohio State basketball head coach Jake Diebler provides summer program update
The Ohio State basketball team has started its offseason workouts as it prepares to put the pieces in place for the 2025-2026 season. It welcomed in some former players the last few days for "Vet Week," has done a lot of five-on-five scrimmaging, gone through conditioning, and worked through many drills and skill development already.
The hope is that this year is going to be much, much better than what we've seen over the last three years when the Buckeyes missed the NCAA Tournament. It'll be head coach Jake Diebler's second year, and he sorely needs to build some momentum to turn this program around and get it where everyone believes it should be.
Diebler met with the media this week to provide an update on summer workouts, where the team stands, how the House Settlement impacts the program, and much more. We are sharing the entire video of the press conference thanks to the Columbus Dispatch, so you can get Diebler's full comments.
Dielber and his staff have a good mix of returning scorers and new blood that will need to mix together and find the chemistry and identity to make a big leap forward. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen, but we're all here putting the optimism out in the universe hoping it all comes to fruition this season.

HC Mike Elko believes Texas A&M junior DL will 'fulfill his potential' in 2025 Texas A&M's defensive line depth became an immediate talking point early in the offseason, mainly due to the departures of Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart, and Shemar Turner, who were all selected in the first two rounds of the 2025 NFL Draft. However, after adding five defensive linemen from the transfer portal, including four edge rushers, interior defensive line depth remains an issue, putting pressure on the starting rotation to perform effectively. On Wednesday night, head coach Mike Elko spoke during the annual Dallas Coach's Night, previewing the 2025 season for what seems like the tenth time this year. Still, it has not yet become redundant, as the second-year leader had plenty to say regarding several players, including junior defensive tackle DJ Hicks. This is a critical season for the former five-star prospect, who was the crown jewel of Texas A&M's 2023 recruiting class, but has yet to live up to his high school production, mainly due to the depth in front of him during his first two seasons. Still, during his first season as a starting defensive tackle, Hicks recorded just 17 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and two pass deflections. This offseason, Hicks has reportedly worked hard to build more strength in the weight room and work on his technique as a run defender, which, paired with senior nose tackle Albert Regis, needs to reach a level of consistency, as former Iowa State DL Tyler Onyedum is already a proven run defender who also brings notable pass rusher ability to the depth chart. Despite his lack of production, Elko is very high on DJ Hicks to take that next step and finally live up to his immense potetnial as "the guy" on the D-line. "I think DJ Hicks is probably that guy who is going to step into that limelight this year and fulfill his potential." This vote of confidence is a good sign knowing the amount of talent from the transfer portal, as Elko could have named any one of the new additions that have stood out, but remains steady that Hicks will become one of the defense's more reliable defenders. With just one year of eligibility remaining after this season, 2025 needs to be the year that Hicks shines. Perrion Winfrey signed by Dallas Cowboys Former Oklahoma Sooners defensive lineman Perrion Winfrey is getting a second chance to make it in the National Football League. According to NBC Houston's Aaron Wilson, Winfrey is signing with the Dallas Cowboys, after a successful stint in the United Football League this spring. Winfrey played defensive tackle for OU for two seasons. After transferring in from Iowa Western Community College, he was a two-year starter in Norman in both 2020 and 2021. He was drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft with the 108th overall pick, after a Senior Bowl MVP performance during the pre-draft process. He appeared in 13 games during his rookie season. But an off-field incident ahead of the 2023 season led to the Browns releasing Winfrey, and he didn't play that year until the New York Jets signed him late in the season. He only appeared in one game for the Jets, and didn't play at all during the 2024 NFL season, as he was a free agent. So, Winfrey took his talents to the UFL for their 2025 season, signing with the Birmingham Stallions. He had an excellent year there, helping the Stallions make the playoffs, and was named to the All-UFL Team this spring. Winfrey totaled 29 tackles, including nine tackle for loss and a sack. He also added four pass breakups and a forced fumble in 10 games in 2025. Now, Winfrey is getting another shot at the NFL, where he'll look to show off his impressive physical traits and potential at the highest level once again. Why Alabama's 2026 class is set to skyrocket up recruiting rankings If you were to take a look at the Alabama Crimson Tide's current position in the 2026 team recruiting rankings, then it might not be something you necessarily expected to see in mid-June. As to why, that is because Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently sits at No. 45 nationally according to the latest 247Sports Team Rankings with only seven commitments, as of Tuesday, June 17. However, do not be surprised if that ranking changes in the very near future, as things are certainly in place for the Crimson Tide to skyrocket up the class rankings over the next two-to-three weeks. As mentioned previously, Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently holds only seven commitments, which is among the fewest of any SEC team. Of those seven, one is a five-star prospect in cornerback Jorden Edmonds, while the remaining six are all considered four-star's. Lying ahead for the Crimson Tide however are numerous upcoming commitment decisions that will be made in the coming weeks from some of the nation's elite prospects, many of which have Alabama among their list of finalists.
