RM13 million Sabah State Education Fund aid for 9,000 students

KENINGAU: The Sabah State Education Fund (TPNS) has spent RM13 million to support the education of more than 9,000 youths in Sabah since its inception three years ago. State Science, Technology and Innovation minister Datuk Dr Mohamad Arifin Arif said this reflected State Government's unwavering dedication to ensuring that no child in Sabah is deprived of educational opportunities.
Advertisement 'This ongoing initiative, launched three years ago by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, underscores the State Government's prioritisation of education as a vital investment in Sabah's future,' he said. Arifin, representing the Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan, said this during a ceremony held at the Sabah State Library Auditorium in here on Tuesday, where he officiated the distribution of TPNS aid and the presentation for the Adopted Schools programme in the district. During the ceremony, a total of RM435,695 was disbursed to 180 students from both public and private institutions of higher learning pursuing various academic qualifications, including Science Certificates, Diplomas, Bachelor's Degrees, Master's and Doctorate degrees. The event also recognised outstanding academic achievements, awarding RM1,000 each to a Keningau student who attained 12 A's and three students who secured 10 A's in the recent Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination at SM Ken Hwa. A total of 173 secondary school students from the district received free eyeglasses as part of the educational assistance programme. In addition to student aid, public libraries across Sabah including branches in Keningau, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Membakut, Tuaran, Semporna, Sandakan, Tawau, Beaufort, Ranau and Kota Marudu were recipients of educational tablets to enhance learning resources. The ceremony also featured support for the Bahasa Sahabat programme, which aims to strengthen the Malay language and improve English proficiency across four Malaysian Teacher Education Institutes (IPGM) campuses located in Kampus Kent, Keningau, Tawau, and Gaya Kinabalu. Aid for school activities was further extended through the Bagus programme and Sabah Sukes initiatives, benefiting the Keningau District Education Office (PPD) and the Sabah State Islamic Religious Affairs Department (Jheains). Two Adopted Schools which is SK Banjar and SMK Bingkor, were also awarded grants of RM5,000 and RM10,000 respectively. Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor received a courtesy call from the new Director of the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) Sabah, Datin Dayang Halimah Awang Ahmad, at his office in Menara Kinabalu on Thursday. Dayang Halimah, who hails from Tawau, has held the position since March 1, 2025. Advertisement Prior to this, she served as the State Operations Director (Corporate Tax Audit) of IRB Sabah. Hajiji congratulated Dayang Halimah on her appointment and expressed confidence that the close ties between the State Government and IRB would be further strengthened to ensure more efficient and comprehensive revenue management. He said the Government remains committed to supporting efforts to enhance revenue collection in a fair and effective manner, in line with the State's development needs and the wellbeing of its people. Dayang Halimah said the visit was to introduce herself, as well as to discuss strategic collaboration between IRB and the State Government in areas such as tax compliance and revenue management. During the meeting, she also shared the direction and plans of IRB Sabah, including initiatives to expand service outreach and raise public awareness on taxation. On the same day, Hajiji also received a courtesy call from the Assistant Chief of the Army Reserve Force, Major General Dato' Mohammad Razeif Che Ahmad. He was accompanied by the Fifth Infantry Division Commander Major General Dato' Noorrul Azril Ariffin and the Army Planning and Development Director Colonel Burhan Sagoni. Klias hardcore poverty initiative bears fruit

Klias Assemblyman Datuk Isnin Aliasnih said this success was the result of the continuous efforts of the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as part of the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) agenda. Advertisement Isnin said E-Kasih data showed there were 168 hardcore poor in Klias in 2023, which decreased to 11 by the end of 2024 and finally reached zero this year. 'This year, it is zero, meaning there are no more hardcore poor in Klias. This shows that the government's various initiatives to address this issue have been effective. 'The government provided extensive assistance to ensure these individuals rose above the poverty line, as we understood their struggles, some earning less than RM250 a month and some even without homes,' 'We provided them with SMJ homes and enrolled them in the Mini Estet Sejahtera (Mesej) programme to boost their economic standing. They have now successfully escaped poverty.' He said this to reporters after officiating the Klias Gagasan Rakyat Annual Delegates Meeting at Dewan Pa' Musa here. Isnin, who is also Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing, said five dilapidated schools in the area will be upgraded with an allocation of RM118 million. The schools are SK Mempagar, SK Takuli, SK Rancangan Klias, SK Pintas and SK Kubu. Additionally, a RM35 million allocation has been approved for the construction of the Beaufort District Education Office. 'My voice was heard during the Gagasan Rakyat Annual Assembly debate last year on education issues, leading to this substantial allocation for Klias. 'Not just that, Beaufort is also set to become one of Sabah's industrial hubs with a 5,000-acre area to be developed as an industrial centre. 'Once this project begins, it will impact local development and the economy, especially in Klias. The community must seize this opportunity,' he said. When asked about preparations for the 17th State Election, Isnin, who is also a Gagasan Rakyat Supreme Council Member said the party machinery is fully prepared to defend the Klias seat at any time. 'All party wings, including grassroots machinery, have been instructed to be ready. Not in e-Kasih? Johor has a new affordable home plan for you
ISKANDAR PUTERI, June 5 — Low-income earners in Johor who are not listed under the federal e-Kasih database can now own their first home. Johor Housing and Local Government chairman Datuk Mohd Jafni Md Shukor said the state government will expand its Projek Rumah Prihatin Johor (RPJ) to all 56 state constituencies in August. 'The move was taken following feedback and complaints that there are still many low-income earners who are not listed in the e-Kasih programme and have failed to be eligible for the state government's affordable housing schemes,' he said. He said the RPJ was developed to support those ineligible for existing federal and state housing programmes. Mohd Jafni said the RPJ was first launched as a pilot in the Machap and Bukit Permai constituencies. Following its success, the state is ready to roll it out statewide. Under the RPJ, homes will be built on land owned by the applicants or their families, with supporting proof via promissory letters. Buyers can choose between a two-bedroom unit priced at RM66,000 or a three-bedroom unit at RM86,000. Both options include a RM30,000 subsidy from the Johor government. Applicants must cover the remaining cost – RM36,000 or RM56,000 depending on the house type – via a loan. 'These homes will be completed within seven months,' said Mohd Jafni. He said the programme is aimed at those who have land but cannot afford to build their own homes. 'Applications are currently open and can be made at the respective district office. 'The approval process only takes three months if all the applicants' conditions are met,' he said.
