Lucknow:
Samajwadi Party
and other opposition parties have backed the BJP-led govt at the Centre on stern action against terrorism and terrorists at the all-party meeting held in Delhi, SP national president
Akhilesh Yadav
said on Saturday.
He also sought action against elements who are trying to give a "different colour" to the
Pahalgam attack
. He said BJP had a free hand on security issues in Jammu and Kashmir but failed to deliver.
Describing the Pahalgam attack as "highly condemnable and saddening", Akhilesh said that SP and all other opposition parties firmly back the Centre over stern action against perpetrators of Pahalgam attack.
"We are all with the govt on its decision to respond to Pakistan and take action against terrorists," he said, responding to media queries in Kushinagar.
"We stand with families from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana and other states from where people have lost their loved ones in this act of terror. We hope that the govt will take concrete steps," he said.
In response to another question, Akhilesh said the entire country wants that incident like Pahalgam never happen again.
"Hopefully, intelligence will not fail in future. There will be no security lapses. Everyone is saying that there was an intelligence failure on the part of the govt. There was no security arrangement for tourists," he said, adding that the BJP govt could not shrug off its responsibility.
"We hope that the govt will implement the assurances it has given regarding the security of the country, borders and economy," he said.
Akhilesh praised Indian Army for its valour and said the BJP govt left youths demoralised by introducing Agniveer Scheme in army recruitment. "Hundreds of youths from villages in districts like Kushinagar and Ghazipur, used to prepare for years to join the army but have been left dejected by the Agniveer Scheme as they want full service span," he said.
Questioning the intentions of the govt for turning a blind eye towards attempts to paint the Pahalgam attack with a different hue, Akhilesh said: "The govt should ban those who are giving another colour to the incident. The entire country and all the people are standing with the families of those who lost their lives. The BJP should not politicise the issue," he said.

Pak Generals Want Conflict To Remain Relevant: Ravi Shankar In Germany

BJP MP and leader of the all-party delegation Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday launched a scathing attack on Pakistan's military establishment for supporting terrorism, saying that its Generals want conflicts to remain relevant and use terrorists as a tool to destabilise India. Addressing a community event with the Indian diaspora in Berlin, Prasad pointed out that while both India and Pakistan were born on the same day, the former has made remarkable progress in IT and space, in contrast to Islamabad. "India and Pakistan were born the same day. Where are we in India, and where are they (Pakistan)? India has become a major global IT power in the world. India has become an emerging space power in the world. The startup movements here are now globally recognised. India has also become the second biggest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. We have brought digital transformation with equity and justice," ANI quoted Prasad as saying. Prasad claimed that Pakistan only knows how to prepare world-class terrorists under its military leadership. He said that wherever there is a terrorist, he is either a Pakistani or trained in Pakistan. "What Pakistan is doing is creating terror machines. How to create world-class terrorists under their (military) Generals. They attacked us four times and lost every time. We never attacked; they were the ones who always started the war. It is because they are under the control of Generals and not political leaders. Generals want conflict to keep themselves relevant, and terrorists are the instruments through which they execute. Wherever there is a terrorist, either he is a Pakistani or trained in Pakistan," he added. Prasad also spoke about the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and India's decisive response through Operation Sindoor on May 7, noting that Operation Sindoor remains paused but ready to resume based on Pakistan's actions. "Pahalgam attack happened on April 22. We attacked on May 7 and hit the terrorist camps. If Pakistan has to talk, it must directly speak to us. Our message was stern and straight: If you stop, we stop. If you fire, we will give a stronger reply. Operation Sindoor is on pause, subject to the good behaviour of Pakistan. It has not ended," he stated. An all-party delegation, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, is currently visiting Germany as part of the Indian government's initiative to engage with key partner nations, including members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to convey India's resolute and united stand against terrorism. This initiative follows the tragic April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 innocent civilians lost their lives to gunfire from terrorists. The Delegation includes BJP MPs Daggubati Purandeswari and Samik Bhattacharya, Congress MP Amar Singh and Gulam Ali Khatana, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, AIADMK MP M Thambidurai, former Union Minister MJ Akbar and former diplomat Pankaj Saran. The delegation arrived in Germany after concluding their visit to Belgium to convey India's resolute and united stand against terrorism.

200 km canal, 12 km tunnel...: How India plans to punish Pakistan after suspending Indus water treaty, Modi govt will make....

India suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. (File) India suspended the Indus Water Treaty after the heinous April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, and now the Indian government has devised a long-term strategy that will make Pakistan yearn for every single drop of water in the coming future. According to reports the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government is committed to make Pakistan pay for the Pahalgam massacre, and plans are in place in to restrict water from the Indus, Sutlej and Beas rivers to the enemy country. How India plans to halt Indus water to Pakistan The Modi government has plans to connect the Indus river with the Ravi-Beas rivers by diverting the water to the Harike Barrage in Punjab through Sutlej river. The mega canal will be around 200 km long, and involves constructing as many as 12 large tunnels. Water running through these these tunnels will flow into the Indira Gandhi Canal, and a few others, including the Ganga Canal in Rajasthan, ultimately flowing into the Yamuna River. As per media reports, quoting sources, the expansion of the plan involves connecting these river streams to the Yamuna, and work is underway to increase the capacity of the Ganga Canal, remove silt and stop leakage along with Sirhind Feeder in Punjab, Rajasthan Feeder in Haryana and Indira Gandhi Canal. The 200 km canal will be built parallel to Harike Barrage, according to reports. Project will benefit multiple states Once the project is completed, several Indian states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, will be benefitted from the Indus waters, while the excess water will flow into the Ganges and Yamuna rivers. The project is expected to be completed within a span of two-three years, and will also help in reviving the Yamuna River in many places, officials said. Meanwhile, Pakistan has written four letters to India, pleading New Delhi to restore the Indus Water Treaty. However, India has clearly stated the treaty will continue to be abeyance till Pakistan takes visible, concrete action against terrorism.
