Yadav also accused the BJP of strategically targeting the ideals of reservation, socialism and secularism, especially when elections are near. When they fear a backlash from their vote base, they attack these values indirectly by undermining social justice,' he alleged while addressing his party workers after inaugurating the new party office in Azamgarh.
He proposed naming the newly inaugurated party office in Azamgarh as 'PDA Bhawan', declaring that only Pichhda, Dalit, Alpsankhyak (PDA) unity will open the path to social justice and political power. He appealed to the PDA voters to keep an eye on the voters list so that they could exercise their franchise in 2027.The SP chief claimed that the PDA strategy and INDIA bloc's strength will also work in the 2027 UP assembly polls.
Yadav further alleged that the BJP government was identifying such schools wherein booths it had lost and was now planning to close such schools. 'Thousands of such schools are being closed, while liquor shops are being opened indiscriminately,' the SP chief alleged.
Referring to the early days of the BJP, Akhilesh reminded the audience of its foundational debates. 'At their first convention, the BJP deliberated on what ideological path to adopt. Some wanted to stick with their original ideology but many knew that India would never accept that path.'
Therefore, he said, the BJP chose socialism and secularism but they have forgotten that resolution today. Yadav also extended his party's full support to the Rashtriya Janata Dal in the upcoming assembly assembly polls in Bihar.

EC to press ahead with poll rolls revision, says it's lawful
NEW DELHI: Notwithstanding opposition's refrain that the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral roll stands to disenfranchise "tens of lakhs" of electors, EC remains steadfast in proceeding with the exercise strictly in conformity with the Constitution and the laws governing voter enrolment. "The implementation of SIR in Bihar is running as per schedule with the active participation of all election staff and all political parties in the most transparent manner. Despite apprehensions of some, SIR will ensure that all eligible persons will be included," CEC Gyanesh Kumar told TOI on Thursday. Kumar cited Article 326 of the Constitution of India and Section 19 and 21 of Representation of the People Act, 1950 to highlight how the legal framework necessitated SIR, saying "there is nothing more transparent in a democracy than the law". While Article 326 of the Constitution mandates that only Indian citizens not less than 18 years, unless disqualified under any other law, will be registered as electors, Section 19 of R P Act, 1950 states that a person must be ordinarily resident in the constituency where he is enrolled. Section 21 of the R P Act provides for revision of electoral roll before each assembly/Lok Sabha poll/bypoll. During their meeting with 11 opposition parties on Wednesday, EC assured them that SIR exercise in Bihar is being conducted in a planned, structured and phased manner to facilitate the inclusion of all eligible citizens. Sources told TOI that between June 23 and July 2, the number of BLAs has risen to over 1.5 lakh from around 1.4 lakh, with the Congress doubling its BLAs in the field. "EC urges all eligible citizens in Bihar to participate actively in this special drive to ensure that no voter is left out," the poll panel said and also appealed to parties to appoint more BLAs. While assuring parties that not a single person who fulfils the conditions for enrolment, will be left out, an EC official explained that ineligible voters, including illegal immigrants and those not ordinary residents in that constituency, will need to be dropped. "However, no Bihar migrant will be disenfranchised; just that he will be enrolled in the constituency or state where he is ordinarily resident, that is, where he has been living for a reasonable period of time on grounds of marriage, work etc," explained the official. Another senior EC functionary said SIR in Bihar was necessitated as the last exercise was undertaken 22 years ago.

Karnataka BJP Leader N Ravikumar Faces FIR Over Derogatory Remarks Against Chief Secretary
Bengaluru: Karnataka Police have filed an FIR against the Chief Whip and BJP MLC N. Ravikumar on Thursday for allegedly issuing derogatory remarks on the Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh. The Karnataka IAS Officers' Association has condemned the derogatory remarks by Ravikumar. The body has demanded an unconditional apology. Ravikumar made the controversial statement on July 1 in the presence of the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and police officials. Expressing his displeasure over Chief Secretary Shalini Rajneesh not being present to receive a submission from a BJP delegation, Ravikumar allegedly mocked her, saying that she is always occupied during the day with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's work and only performs her government duties at night. Vidhana Soudha police in Bengaluru have filed an FIR against Ravikumar under Sections 351 (3), 75 (3) and 79 of the BNS Act. Naagaratna, a social worker, has filed the complaint in this regard. The Karnataka IAS Officers' Association has stated that, "The Association strongly condemns the derogatory and offensive remarks made by MLC Ravikumar against the Chief Secretary to the government. The Chief Secretary holds the highest civil office in Karnataka and is a widely respected officer known for her integrity, commitment, and distinguished public service, the association stated. The body has demanded a public and unconditional apology from Ravikumar. It has also urged immediate legal action under applicable provisions of law. It has also demanded a formal resolution of censure in the Legislative Council. "Civil servants must be allowed to discharge their duties without fear, insult or political intimidation. We urge the government to uphold the institutional dignity and take prompt and exemplary action in this regard," the association demanded. Meanwhile, the second Congress delegation of senior leaders, Saleem Ahmed, B. K. Hariprasad, Manjunath Bhandari, Nagraj Yadav, Balkis Banu, Mallajamma, Ramoji Gowda, D. T. Srinivas and Ramesh Babu met the Chairman of the Legislative Council, Basavaraj Horatti and submitted a complaint urging the suspension of the membership of Ravikumar. Ravikumar had earlier stirred controversy by suggesting that Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Tarannum might have come from Pakistan. Responding to the controversy, Ravikumar said that he did not make any derogatory remarks against her. "I am shocked by the circulation of selective video clips and claims in print and social media alleging that I have spoken in a derogatory manner against the Chief Secretary. I have been in Hyderabad on official work for the past three days," he stated. "On June 30, 2025, I, along with Opposition Leader in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy and other Dalit leaders, staged a protest in front of the Gandhi statue near Vidhana Soudha condemning the Forest Department for taking over land in Kadugodi, Mahadevapura constituency, where Dalit families have been cultivating for several years. To draw the government's attention to this issue, we have been trying to meet the Hon'ble Chief Minister and the Hon'ble Chief Secretary, but neither has been accessible. He further stated, "I merely stated that the Chief Secretary is busy - I did not utter a single word that could be construed as derogatory toward her." "During the protest, I did not make any speech targeting the Chief Secretary, nor did I speak to the media. 2,289 govt. staff taken off beneficiary list of Ladki Bahin Yojana
The Maharashtra government has removed 2,289 government employees from the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana following a verification drive to weed out ineligible beneficiaries and ensure targeted delivery of the welfare scheme for women. Their names were removed from the list of beneficiaries, Women and Child Development Minister Aditi Tatkare said in a written reply to the State Assembly on Thursday, adding that her department has stepped up efforts to cross-check beneficiaries and uphold the integrity of the flagship scheme. Launched by the BJP-led Mahayuti government in August 2023 ahead of the November 2024 Assembly election, the scheme provides monthly aid of ₹1,500 to nearly 2.4 crore women in the 21-65 age group through direct benefit transfer to improve their health, nutrition, and decision-making capacity. In May this year, Ms. Tatkare said it was detected that over 2,200 government employees were receiving the aid despite being ineligible for it. With the latest update, the number of such ineligible beneficiaries stands at 2,289. The Minister also informed the Assembly that for 2025-26, the budgetary allocation for the scheme has been made from the general category funds (₹28,290 crore) of her department as well as ₹3,240 crore from the Tribal Development Department's funds and ₹3,960 crore from the funds of the Social Justice and Special Assistance Department. Loan facility The State government is also considering a proposal to allow the beneficiaries of the scheme to take loans against the monthly instalment and start micro-businesses, the Minister said.
