Talented UNC transfer portal target chooses Big 10 powerhouse
After largely striking out in the 2024 offseason transfer portal, Hubert Davis is making sure the North Carolina Tar Heels load up with portal talent for their upcoming season.
UNC already has five incoming transfers: projected starting center Henri Veesaar (Arizona), projected starting point guard Kyan Evans (Colorado State), Chapel Hill native Jarin Stevenson (Alabama), plus shooting guards Jonathan Powell (West Virginia) and Jaydon Young (Virginia Tech). Each and every one of the previously-mentioned guys are crucial to success for North Carolina, which lost several players this offseason.
The Tar Heels still have a need at small forward, with 2024-2025 starter Drake Powell recently declaring for the NBA Draft. UNC targeted Cal transfer Andrej Stojakovic in the portal, but that pursuit stops immediately.
On Monday, April 28, Stojakovic committed to the Illinois Fighting Illini. Andrej, the son of NBA legend Peja Stojakovic, chose Illinois over North Carolina and a possible return to Stanford.
"I think the main reasons were pretty clear to my inner circle as a basketball fit," Stojakovic told ESPN. "Coach [Brad] Underwood has been very aggressive recruiting me from the start and constantly reiterating how much I'm wanted and needed as a basketball player there. They really believe I'm the missing piece to what they think is a national championship team."
While Stojakovic would bring a much-needed perimeter shooting threat to Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels have several additional options at small forward on their roster.
My first thought for a small forward starter is the 6'10" Stevenson, who played primarily at power forward for the Crimson Tide last season, but spends a lot of time on the perimeter. Powell is also maintaining his college eligibility, so his potential return would be a huge roster boost for UNC.
The deadline for players to enter the portal recently closed, but North Carolina can still land commitments from guys still in the portal. Regardless of what happens, Stojakovic's decision doesn't hurt the Tar Heels a ton.

Former MSU running back Nathan Carter scores long touchdown for the Atlanta Falcons
It's been a big night for Spartans in the NFL. Shortly after former MSU defensive back and current member of the Tennessee Titans, Kendell Brooks took an interception all the way for a touchdown, Nathan Carter fired back and broke a huge run for a 43-yard touchdown for his Atlanta Falcons. Carter, who, like Brooks, is vying for a roster spot in the NFL, managed to take what looked like a simple inside handoff, found a seam, and showed some nice top-end speed to take it all the way to the end zone. You can watch it below: Kendell Brooks and Nathan Carter are both fighting for roster spots right now, and plays like that will make a great case for them to stick around in the league. UNC football lands top 100 recruit in 2026 class
Bill Belichick lands another big recruit Bill Belichick and the North Carolina Tar Heels continue to prep for the 2025 season with kickoff against TCU just under three weeks away. While this is the first year under Belichick, the program will really start to feel his impact in terms of recruiting in the 2026 class. And the Tar Heels just added another big piece to that 2026 class. On Friday, the Tar Heels secured a commitment from top 100 player C.J. Sadler as he ended his recruitment and picked North Carolina. The four-star athlete picked the Tar Heels over his other finalists, Colorado, Maryland, and Michigan. The Michigan native is the top recruit in the state and a top 100 player overall, giving UNC their second-highest-rated recruit in the Belichick era behind only quarterback Travis Burgess. With Sadler being listed as an athlete, the plan is for him to play defensive back, wide receiver and be a return man for the Tar Heels per 247Sports. The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Sadler is ranked No. 85 nationally, the No. 8 athlete, and No. 1 player in the state of Michigan per the 247Sports rankings. With his commitment, UNC now has the No. 17 overall class for the 2026 cycle. 'It was great': Texas A&M QB Marcel Reed's SportsCenter conversation on Friday
With Texas A&M's 2025 season opener against UTSA just two weeks and one day away, starting quarterback Marcel Reed has begun to make the media rounds, speaking to ESPN's SportCenter on Friday afternoon just a day after former Aggie QB and Heisman winner Johnny Manziel made an appearance on the Pat McAfee show, where he discussed his belief in Reed's ability heading into the redshirt sophomore's first full starting season. Reed's confidence is noticeable every time he is in front of a camera, which is what every head coach expects from the team's leader. One of the many reasons the Tennessee native is likely beaming from ear to ear is the team's revamped wide receiver rotation, now featuring transfers KC Concepcion (NC State) and Mario Craver (Mississippi State), who chose the Aggies over multiple blue-blood suitors. Regarding his conversation with Manziel, Reed revealed what he and the college football legend discussed to SportsCenter, including Manziel's memorable connection to future Hall of Fame wide receiver Mike Evans. 'It was great. When you grow up watching college football, you think of Johnny Manziel for sure. I have been blessed to be able to come to this college and have the opportunity to speak with him.' Amid his struggles, Texas A&M has continued to back Manziel, and he has done the same, connecting with the current roster whenever possible and developing a strong connection with Reed, which could pay off on the field. When asked about his new weapons in the passing game, Concepcion was the first name that came up, and, of course, Reed noted the former NC State standout's elite ability to make plays whenever the ball is in his hands. 'He has a history of being a really good receiver, and I'm really excited to play beside him this year, give him the ball and get him some yards.' Concepcion is the current active leader in touchdown receptions (16) and has already shown his ability as a redzone threat during several preseason practice clips. Texas A&M's passing game will only improve if Reed makes the necessary strides and gains an early rapport with Concecpcion, Mario Craver, Terry Bussey, Ashton Bethel-Roman, and the newly formed tight end rotation.
