Daily Mirror25-07-2025
EastEnders star Heather Peace, who plays Eve Unwin on the soap, shares news about her cancer battle after 'nine long months', as her wife has also been diagnosed with breast cancer
EastEnders Eve Unwin actress Heather Peace has given her fans an update on her breast cancer journey. The 50-year-old has carried on acting in the soap despite her diagnosis and treatment – and she's just completed 15 radiotherapy sessions.

And now the soap star has has her final round of the cancer treatment – she recently declared as she posted a selfie outside the hospital and shared an update on Instagram. Heather was celebrating the end of chemo and radiotherapy as she gave an update.

Taking to social media with a selfie outside of hospital in an Instagram post, the soap star wrote: "Final round of 15 radio therapy sessions just completed. This marks the end of a long nine months of diagnosis, chemo and radio."

She added: "Time to piece myself back together. Thank you for the beautiful support." She included the hashtags 'checkyourbreasts' along with 'breastcancerawarness' to end the post.
Breast cancer affects millions of women every year and Heather Peace has been encouraging others to check breasts and to be aware of any changes. She recently opened up on That Gaby Roslin Podcast about her decision to continue working on EastEnders despite her diagnosis.

She said: "I need to come in [to work on set] because at this point, I don't know what's going to happen. And I want to finish this arc of the story.'
The actress became a favourite with fans on the BBC soap EastEnders since her debut in 2021. The 50-year-old plays the role of Eve Panesar-Unwin, enthralling audiences with the romantic storyline with Suki Panesar, played by Balvinder Sopal, the two women fell in love as Suki escaped a controlling relationship with ex-husband Nish Panesar.
Heather's real-life wife Ellie Dickinson was also diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year - and the couple have three daughters, Annie, 10, and eight-year-old twins Jesse and Lola.

Ellie was heartbreakingly diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer, she had a lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy to combat a smaller but fierce tumour. Heather had a significantly larger 12cm tumour, she underwent a mastectomy and chemotherapy, and was about to start radiotherapy.
Heather recounted Ellie's reaction with some humour, she said: "Her breast cancer was a smaller, aggressive lump, so she had a lumpectomy and then radiotherapy. Of course then I come along with my 12 cm lump, absolutely ginormous, and mastectomy, chemotherapy, just about to go into radiotherapy. She's like 'Even that you have to do bigger'. It's like 'Hold my beer'."

Finding her own lump after noticing a change in her nipple, Heather admits she tried putting off getting checked at the time because of her EastEnders filming schedule. But wife Ellie told Heather she must go right away, but they were shocked to discover Heather had breast cancer within just three hours of seeing a doctor.
At that time Heather told the Mirror: 'I swear everybody looked at me, it might be my imagination, but I felt like a dead woman walking.
'I honestly did because it was so big and so quick that they told us and the seriousness and gravity with which I was told.'
As her battle with cancer proceeded, the actress wore a wig on the set of Eastenders - and she said the hardest change to her appearance has been the 'devastating' hair loss. She said this made her feel self conscious, explaining that she also lost her eyelashes and your eyebrows.
Back in May, Heather told fans about her secret battle with breast cancer, now just a few days ago she shared the update that she'd got through the treatment cycle and it was the 'end of nine long months'.

Emmerdale confirms new target for Ray in ITVX release and its a major character

The following article contains spoilers from an episode of Emmerdale that hasn't aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX. Drug dealer Ray Walters (Joe Absolom) has confirmed which Emmerdale resident he intends to target next. Ray was introduced to us a couple of weeks ago, when Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) invited him to the village to consider buying the weed plants Lewis Barton (Bradley Riches) had been growing. Mack ended up clashing with Lewis and Ross Barton (Michael Parr) over this, as they made it clear the plants weren't for selling to a dodgy dealer. The weed disappeared from the barn and this was because Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) had sold it to Ray. Now, we're beginning to learn a bit more about the new character and the very dangerous work he offers young people. Dylan Penders (Fred Kettle) returned to the village last week. He was found in the church by April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), who believed the claims that he had completely turned his life around after attending rehab. In reality, Dylan had just broken into a barn at Butlers and was living rough again. In this evening's episode, we discovered more about his connection to Ray, as it became apparent the youngster had been taking part in 'drug drop offs' for money. Dylan had spent the night at Mandy and Paddy's (Lisa Riley and Dominic Brunt) and wanted to focus on getting his life back on track, which meant ignoring messages from Ray. After lying to April about where he was going, Dylan eventually met up with Ray to ask him for some time off. He explained that he was living with a local vet and wanted to hang out with April a bit more. Ray pretended to be understanding and told Dylan that was no problem, and handed him some cash from the previous job. More Trending Just before the instalment ended though, Ray's true intentions were revealed. While on the phone, he watched Dylan and April together. Jeff Brazier ‘makes surprising legal move' after concerns for son Freddy

Jeff Brazier has made a major move in his legal case against Jade Goody's mum Jackiey Budden. Over the years Jeff and Jackiey have repeatedly come to blows publicly, with the situation between them becoming so tense that she lost contact with her grandsons for several years. In March Jeff, 45, launched a legal bid to prevent his son Freddy, 20, from seeing his maternal grandmother. It was reported at the time that the TV presenter, who also shares son Bobby with the late Big Brother star, was taking action to 'legally block contact' between Freddy and Jackiey, 68 due to concerns over 'keeping his son safe'. Soon after Jackiey lashed out at Jeff, calling him names when asked about the legal proceedings. Not long after she was photographed 'smoking a joint' with her grandson in South London. A few months on though and Jeff has now reportedly dropped the case after 'making peace' with Jackiey. 'Effectively they've all made peace for the time being and are trying to make things better again, which is doing them the world of good,' a source told The Sun. 'It's actually the perfect outcome for everyone, and exactly what Jade would have wanted. The boys are happier for it, and the constant in-fighting has stopped… for now.' They added that Freddy 'remains devoted' to his grandmother and had been 'threatening to leave the UK to be with his grandmother abroad if Jeff carried on his legal case'. A source also told the publication that Freddy is again living with Jackiey in her flat in South London, but is also spending time with his dad and brother. Last week Jeff reunited with his sons at 101 Dalmatians: The Musical at the Eventim Apollo in London, where he made his West End debut. 'So lovely to have both the lads come along to watch me in @101dalmatiansuk I love how much it made them laugh and it was really special that they were both there to support me. Thanks for coming @freddybrazier_ @bobbybrazier,' he wrote on Instagram alongside a photo with his sons. 'What a show, loved every minute of it! Most of all I loved watching you just play and have fun. I love you Dad,' Freddy commented. On Monday night he also posted a photo of his dad on Instagram and shared a touching caption. 'Grateful for my dad's advice. Grateful that forgiveness is a thing. Grateful that I got to see someone important to me. Grateful for my boys.' Goody died aged 27 from cervical cancer in 2009, when Freddy was just four years old. During his appearance on Race Across the World with his dad last year, Freddy shared a heartbreaking insight into his grief following the death of his mum when he was so young. 'I lost my mum when I was four and that was on Mother's Day, which is really hard. I don't really like showing my emotions. I don't even speak to my dad much about my mum either. I just avoid it. I prefer to bottle it up,' he said. More Trending 'I don't want to feel like I'm a burden to them. A lot of my memories that I have of my mum have come from watching a documentary, YouTube clips, newspapers, they are not my memories. While holding back tears, he continued: 'I don't really remember being held by my mum. If I had more memories of her, it would have made it a whole lot harder for me. 'But I think I would rather that than not really remember the things that I had done with my mum. It's just life really and I've kind of accepted that.'
