Sky broadband prices set to rise as 'exclusive' deals end

Daily Mirror20-05-2025
Sky is rounding off its spring sale by upping the price of broadband and TV packages, but there's still time to bag a bargain before they revert to their usual pricing
Sky has officially announced when its broadband prices for new customers will increase as a series of cost-cutting deals end soon. Over the past month, Sky has been reducing the price of its broadband and TV packages, but most of these offers have now returned to their normal pricing.
Despite this, Sky continues to offer some attractive discounts on its fibre broadband contracts in several 'digital exclusive price' deals, boasting speeds up to a whopping 900Mbps on certain plans. These 'exclusive' prices currently range from £25 per month for Full Fibre 75 to £42 for Full Fibre Gigafast – Sky's quickest broadband.
A solid mid-range option is Sky's Full Fibre 500, which is now priced at £31 – a monthly saving of £13.50 compared to the standard price of £43.50. However, Sky has confirmed that these deals are set to end on Wednesday, May 28, with prices due to rise after this date.
For those considering a switch, bundling broadband with a TV subscription often provides better value, so it's worth considering Sky's offerings. After ending its spring sale, Sky brought back a popular TV, Netflix and broadband package, announcing 'our lowest price is back'.
The Essential TV and Full Fibre 150 bundle has returned to £35 per month and includes more than 100 channels, including Sky Atlantic. There's also free access to Netflix and Discovery+, with an additional 35 channels available when upgrading to Ultimate TV for an extra £4, reports Wales Online.
Sky's TV goes head to head with Virgin Media's Bigger Combo bundle, though there are some notable differences between each package. Virgin's deal includes more than 200 TV channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband for £34.99 per month, but it doesn't include Sky Atlantic, Netflix or Discovery+.
Sky Atlantic is included with BT and EE's NOW Entertainment and Full Fibre 300 plan, but this comes with a heftier price tag of £51.99 per month. However, those sticking with Sky can take advantage of the provider's new Sky Stream device, which delivers TV and streaming services via WiFi rather than a traditional satellite dish.
Moreover, the One Touch Switch scheme means Sky will deal with an existing broadband provider to handle the switch on behalf of the customer. Many Sky customers have been voicing their experiences of the brand on Trustpilot, with some praising it as 'outstanding'.
One glowing five-star review says: "Outstanding. Service is up and running smoothly. The quality of service is excellent, really fast, and I am delighted that I chose Sky broadband and TV."
Another says: "I have Full Fibre 150. Zero problems. Live sport doesn't lag, and it's a good price at under £30. Installation was perfect."
A third customer says: "Great experience from the minute I signed up. It was super easy to sign up online and at a competitive price. The equipment was delivered quickly and when I had an issue with a missing parcel, customer services went above and beyond to try and get me a replacement."
However, one reviewer added: "Like most broadband companies, the speed can be a bit up and down, but on the whole it's a good service."

If you're heading to college or university this autumn, Sky might have just made that decision a little easier. For a limited time, they're offering the latest MacBook Air at its lowest monthly price yet, just £20 a month, down from £22. That small drop adds up to a total saving of £94, making it one of the most affordable ways to get your hands on a top-tier laptop for university, school or work without having to fork out the usual £899 upfront. However, bear in mind that this is a 48-month contract, so ensure this is considered in your decision-making process. The Apple MacBook Air is widely regarded as one of the best laptops on the market, both in terms of performance and aesthetics. It comes equipped with the latest M4 chip, promising smooth operation for all users' needs. The device boasts up to 18 hours of battery life and incorporates built-in Apple Intelligence to help users complete tasks with ease, reports Birmingham Live. Additionally, it features the stunning Liquid Retina display, perfect for working, editing or simply relaxing with a film during downtime, according to the Express. Available in four distinct colours - Sky Blue, Midnight and Silver - and with 256GB of storage, it may not offer a vast amount of space but is perfectly adequate for storing documents and working on the device. For those seeking other options, there's plenty of choice available. Currys stocks the ACER Aspire Go 14 for £299, which is substantially less expensive than the MacBook but boasts excellent customer reviews. One shared: "I was in no doubt that this product would live up to its name. I found the MacBook to be a great computer, light in weight and easy to walk around with. It adds a sense of wow factor, and it lived up to it. When I took it to my events, people were just drawn to it. A couple of my colleagues decided there and then to purchase, and I told them of Very. The price is very good, and the care is excellent." Another buyer disclosed: "Would never choose a laptop other than an Apple MacBook as they are quality when you take them out of the box. From ease of set up to lasting for years it's worth every penny. I am a big Apple fan!". Our colleagues at our sister publication the Daily Express were equally enthusiastic about the latest Apple MacBook Air. Technology editor David Snelling observed: "We were already huge fans of this highly portable PC, and now there are even more reasons to invest, thanks to the mighty M4 processor, improved external display compatibility, more RAM as standard and Centre Stage web camera. "Battery life continues to impress, the screen is bright and colourful, and there are all the usual features you'd expect on a MacBook, such as a tactile keyboard, brilliant Force Touch trackpad and fast Touch ID fingerprint scanner. The new Sky Blue colour is surely going to be a huge hit and joins the Midnight, Starlight, and Silver shades." He continued: "Yes, it's a bit of a shame that you only get two USB-C ports on one side of the device, and although it starts from a cheaper £999, it can get expensive if you start adding extras."

From Power Struggles To Philanthropy: Meet The Real Guinness Family

If you're missing the Succession shaped hole in your TV viewing schedule, then Netflix's upcoming drama The House of Guinness is sure to be a huge hit with you. The drama will tell the story of the Guinness family, the Dublin lineage behind the infamous drink we know so well. The brand was founded by Arthur Guinness in 1759, with the company's chairman position being passed through the family. The Netflix show, from Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight, will focus on the power struggle that unfolded after the death of Benjamin Guinness in 1868 - leaving his four young children to navigate the business. 'The Guinness dynasty is known the world over – wealth, poverty, power, influence, and great tragedy are all intertwined to create a rich tapestry of material to draw from,' Knight told Netflix. 'I've always been fascinated by their stories and am excited to bring the characters to life for the world to see.' Here's what we know about the real family behind the drama. Benjamin Lee Guinness was the grandfather of Guinness founder Arthur, and is often credited with increasing the success of the brand. In the show, he is portrayed as the patriarch of the family, whose death paves the way for drama to unfold. 'House of Guinness is the extraordinary story of a family who happens to be the inheritors of the biggest brewery in the world,' says Knight. 'They're young and are given the task of taking on this incredibly successful brand. The first priority is: Don't screw it up. And the second priority is to make Guinness even bigger.' Like his father, Edward has a fascinating true story. He was the second oldest son of the four, and is portrayed in the Netflix series by Louis Partridge. When his father died in 1868, he took over the company, and bought out his brother's half-share in 1876. When he was just 29, he gained full ownership of the Guinness company. From there, Edward rapidly expanded the business, and its value. By 1886, the company was brewing 907,000 hogheads across the globe. When he floated two-thirds of the company in 1886 for £6 million, he became the richest man in Ireland and retired as a multi-millionaire age 40. He married Lady Adelaide Maria Guinness, his first cousin, in 1873. Arthur Guinness, the eldest son of the four, went down a different route to his brother, being voted in as a Conservative MP for Dublin in 1868. However, the election was then declared void due to his agent's misconduct, leading to his resignation. In 1876, he made the crucial decision to withdraw from the family brewery enterprise, leaving his brother Edward to expand it. He followed his father in becoming a landlord, and owned several estates in Galway. Arthur, who is played by Anthony Boyle in the show, was also deeply philanthropic, contributing to cultural and healthcare institutions in Dublin, including the restoration of Marsh's Library and expansion of the Coombe Women's Hospital. He married Olivia Hedges-White in 1871. Knight told Netflix that Arthur and Edward are the 'heart' of the House of Guinness. 'I won't give away the plot — but they were given joint stewardship of the brewery for very interesting reasons,' he said. 'Before he died, their father very deliberately chained Arthur and Edward together in responsibility for the brewery. You'll find out why when you watch.' Anne Guinness, played by Emily Fairn in the Netflix show, was Benjamin's only daughter. Like Arthur, she became well known for her philanthropy and charitable work, especially with the poor and sick. In 1876, she founded St. Patrick's Nursing Home in Dublin, and together with her husband, William Conyngham Plunket, she also played a major role in setting up educational institutions such as the Irish Clergy Daughters' School. She had six children with her husband, two sons and four daughters.
