"NDA govt touched this target in 2025...": RLD leader Malook Nagar in India becoming 4th largest economy
New Delhi [India], May 25 (ANI): Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) leader Malook Nagar on Sunday congratulated the NDA government on India becoming the world's fourth-largest economy. He noted that this achievement is historic and a testament to the government's economic policies.
The RLD leader mentioned that former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had projected India to reach this stage by 2040. However, under the NDA government's leadership, India has achieved this milestone ahead of schedule, in 2025.
'This month has been historic in both matters - country's financial power and combatting terrorism... While former PM Manmohan Singh stated 2040 in the Parliament for this stage, NDA government touched this target in 2025...,' he said.
NITI Aayog CEO, BVR Subrahmanyam, announced that India has become the world's fourth-largest economy, surpassing Japan, based on data from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
According to the IMF's April edition of the World Economic Outlook report, the nominal GDP for fiscal 2026 is expected to reach around USD 4,187.017 billion. This is marginally more than the likely GDP of Japan, which is estimated at USD 4,186.431 billion.
Nagar also highlighted that the month has been significant in combating terrorism. He praised the government's efforts to project India's national consensus and firm stance on combating terrorism in all its forms.
He said that misdeeds of Pakistan would be exposed in front of European countries and Pakistan would be left nowhere.
Malook Nagar said, 'Today group of parliamentarians going abroad are set to visit very important countries. UK and European Union together in itself is a superpower, and every place including US has its origin from there. People of Pakistan live in the UK. People from our country live in huge numbers. An opinion will be built, and all the misdeeds of Pakistan will be exposed. People of entire world will come to know about this and Pakistan will be left nowhere. Pakistan will break into several parts. Pakistan will face famine, and India will emerge will rise swiftly.'
He further said that it has been cleared in front of the world that if innocent Indians would be target of a terror attack then India would hit going inside their house.
Earlier Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi, who is a part of a multi-party delegation to European countries, on Sunday called for global accountability and a global alliance against terrorism while highlighting Pakistan's involvement in terror activities.
Speaking with ANI, Priyanka Chaturvedi said, 'There should be a zero tolerance against terrorism and there should also be global accountability and a global alliance against terrorism.'
Slamming Pakistan for being involved in the terror attack, she highlighted that terrorist groups like Al Qaida and Jaish-e-Mohammad originated from the country.
'All roots of terrorism are coming from Pakistan. Pakistan has become a global terror hub. It exports terrorists not just in our country but also in other countries. America or Europe should not forget that Al Qaida, Jaish-e-Mohammad and other terror groups are found there (Pakistan),' she said.
'Those who are empowering Pakistan financially should see where the money is being used... It is time for the entire world to be aware and call Pakistan out for what it is,' she said.
Chaturvedi is part of the delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad, which will visit the UK, France, Germany, the EU, Italy and Denmark.
Other members of the delegation include Daggubati Purandeswari (BJP), Ghulam Ali Khatana, Amar Singh (Congress), Samik Bhattacharya (BJP), M J Akbar, and Ambassador Pankaj Saran. (ANI)

Extreme poverty in India down to 5.3 pc in 2022-23: World Bank
India's extreme poverty rate declined sharply to 5.3 per cent over a decade from 27.1 per cent in 2011-12 even as the World Bank revised upwards its threshold poverty line to USD 3 per day. Given India's inflation rate between 2017 and 2021, a revised extreme poverty line of USD 3 would constitute a 15 per cent higher threshold than USD 2.15 expressed in 2021 prices and result in a 5.3 per cent poverty rate in 2022-23, the World Bank said in a report. In India, the report said, 54,695,832 people lived on less than USD 3 per day in 2024. Thus, the poverty rate at USD 3 per day (2021 PPP -- percentage population) is 5.44 per cent in 2024. The extreme poverty rate decreased from 16.2 to 2.3 per cent between 2011-12 and 2022-23, while the poverty rate at the lower middle income country (LMIC) line declined by 33.7 percentage points, it said. Free and subsidised food transfers supported poverty reduction, and the rural-urban poverty gap narrowed. The five most populous states account for 54 per cent of the extremely poor, it said. With regard to economy, the report said, real GDP of India was around 5 per cent below the pre-pandemic trend level as of FY25. Growth should gradually converge back to potential over 2027-28 assuming the current global uncertainties are resolved in an orderly fashion, it said. "The outlook, however, is subject to significant downside risks, as policy shifts may continue to unfold globally. Elevated trade tensions would dampen demand for India's exports and further delay the recovery in investment," it said. The current account deficit is expected to average around 1.2 per cent of GDP over FY26-28 and remain adequately financed by capital inflows, it said, adding that foreign exchange reserves are projected to remain stable around 16 per cent of GDP. India has lifted 171 million people from extreme poverty in the decade between 2011-12 and 2022-23, the World Bank said. "Over the past decade, India has significantly reduced poverty. Extreme poverty (living on less than USD 2.15 per day) fell from 16.2 per cent in 2011-12 to 2.3 per cent in 2022-23, lifting 171 million people above this line, the World Bank had said in its 'Poverty & Equity Brief' on India in April. The rural extreme poverty dropped from 18.4 per cent to 2.8 per cent, and urban from 10.7 per cent to 1.1 per cent, narrowing the rural-urban gap from 7.7 to 1.7 percentage points a 16 per cent annual decline, it had said.

India's urban buyers show stable confidence, expect brighter outlook: RBI survey
The Reserve Bank of India's latest Urban Consumer Confidence Survey (UCCS) for May 2025 shows that urban consumers maintain stable sentiments about the current economic situation, with a cautious yet improving outlook for the future. The survey reveals that the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI), which measures current consumer sentiment, dipped marginally from 95.5 in March to 95.4 in May, indicating only a slight weakening in how consumers view present conditions. Despite this, expectations for the year ahead have brightened significantly. The Future Expectations Index (FEI), reflecting optimism about the economic outlook, employment prospects, income levels, and spending capacity, rose by one point from 122.4 in March to 123.4 in May.
