Aldi changes name of UK store forever in move that shoppers are hailing as ‘biblical'

ALDI has permanently changed the name of one of its popular UK branches in a move hailed as 'biblical'.
In honour of the Oasis reunion, the store in Greater Manchester will forever be known as 'Aldeh'.

The hilarious change was only meant to be temporary, but after a petition was launched for it to stay for good, Aldi bosses gave it the green light.
Manchester local, Ella Curtis, gathered over 1,300 signatures and was backed by Bury MP Christian Wakefield.
"What started as a nod to a special reunion quickly took on a life of its own. The rebrand resonated with people across Manchester and beyond," she wrote.
"Photos of the sign went viral because it tapped into something meaningful: pride in where we're from, and in what this city has given the world. In short, Prestwich got its own Blue Plaque."
Gig goers posed in front of the new 'Aldeh' on Bury New Rd before heading to Heaton Park to watch the band make a triumphant return.
The sign has even been listed on Google Maps as a cultural landmark and has collected a string of five-star reviews.
One visitor wrote: "Finally, a shop that speaks my language. It's no longer Aldi, it's Aldeh, and that rebrand alone deserves a knighthood."
"Greatest rebrand of all time!! What a nod to the Gallaghers and Manchester," another added.
A third cleverly crafted his review with Oasis lyrics: "I live Half the World Away, but I was top mad for it. What felt like driving All Around The World. Some Might Say I was crazy, Definitely Maybe. But Be Here now, I stared at the Wonderwall with awe, Stand By me when I say this. 10/10 attraction."
"As LG would say... Biblical," another wrote.
Before the big change, Aldi teased fans on social media about making it a permanent fixture.
"Boss said we also need 10,000 likes and a comment from one of the Gallaghers," a spokesperson for the store typed on Facebook.
It got 15,000 likes - which meant Aldi had no choice.
Liam Gallagher even shared a photo of the name change on Instagram.
Noel's daughter Anais also showed her appreciation for the sign on Aldi's TikTok post.
Giles Hurley, chief executive officer at Aldi UK, confirmed the move on LinkedIn.
"Last week, a petition was launched by a local resident calling for us to keep the sign.
"So naturally, we took to social media to see what our shoppers thought, turns out… people are mad for it and want the sign to stay.
"I'm pleased to announce that we'll be keeping the Aldeh sign as a tribute to Manchester! As you were," he wrote.
Julie Ashfield, Aldi's chief commercial officer, added: "We've been blown away by the public's reaction to 'Aldeh'.
"What started as a fun, temporary tribute to Oasis and the local accent has turned into something far bigger.
"We've heard shoppers loud and clear and we're absolutely delighted to keep the sign up for the long haul."
The brothers returned to Manchester this month with five homecoming gigs at Heaton Park - their first in the city in 16 years.
They belted out classics like 'Don't Look Back in Anger' and 'Supersonic' to the delight of hard-core fans.

EastEnders star's wife is rushed to hospital as she's left unable to speak hours before family holiday

EastEnders star Ricky Champ's wife Sammy was rushed to hospital as she was left unable to speak and with swollen eyes just hours before they were due to go on family holiday. Sammy shares two children with the actor, who played Stuart Highway in the iconic soap from 2018 to 2022, and has been suffering from an ongoing health issue. And with just hours before she was supposed to meet her acting husband at Disney, she was left with swollen eyes and was forced to get medical help. In a Story shared to Instagram, Sammy shared a snap of her sore-looking eyes and her swollen lips as her skin broke out into hives. Alongside the post, she penned: 'What is the absolute one thing you don't need to happen the day before you fly to Disney when you need to go shopping/ pack/clean/do that's right, wake up with your lips so swollen you can't speak and eyes swollen shut so you're in A&E at 7am. 'One of the side effects of my gallstones and liver is severe hives all over my body every single morning that go away by bedtime then I wake up and it starts all over again. 'Something due to the toxins etc (still not considered urgent though, still been told need to wait a year + for an op).' After seeking medical advice, Sammy revealed her face had returned to normal and was no longer swollen ahead of their trip to France. Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022. Stuart was at the centre of a father's post-natal depression storyline, with the character struggling to bond with his baby Roland. He had struggled with his mental health after his diagnosis with breast cancer and he is having trouble adjusting to parenthood after he and wife Rainie (Tanya Franks) tried for a child for a long time. Ricky first set foot in Albert Square back in 2018 and has landed a spell of intense storylines, including confessing to accidentally killing DI Steve Thompson (Philip Wright) - who later turned out be alive. He also admitted to being a vigilante paedophile hunter which stemmed from being sexually abused as a child. The actor's additional ventures include his role as Paul Parker in the BBC Three sitcom Him & Her and a Games Of Thrones appearance as Gatins. Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022. Stuart was at the centre of a father's post-natal depression storyline, with him struggling to bond with his baby Ricky filmed his final scenes as Stuart late in 2022. 'In EastEnders I went from villain to hero to dad,' he told Digital Spy at the time of his exit. 'It was amazing, doing that for five years with a character's arc. It felt weird leaving him,' he admitted. Ricky hasn't ruled out a return to the soap someday, as he claimed that anything is possible. 'He didn't die. He rode off into the sunset. I think he's somewhere in the North Circular living with Rainie,' he said of his character.

I'm 100 per cent sure I couldn't make it as a professional golfer

Gareth Bale admitted he was '100 per cent sure' that he could not become a professional golfer. The former Real Madrid and Wales star is well known for his love of golf and has cut his handicap from 'three or four' to just 0.1 since retiring from football in January 2023. Advertisement That has led to suggestions that Bale – who has played on the PGA Tour at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am where footage of him making a brilliant chip from a cart path went viral – could try and make it as a professional golfer, despite having turned 36 earlier this month. Gareth Bale (right), with Colin Montgomerie, is used to playing celebrity golf events (Mike Egerton/PA) 'I'm fully, 100 per cent sure, I can not make it professionally,' Bale told BBC Wales ahead of this week's AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl. 'When you are in golf and you see professional golfers play, compared to even your best stuff, it is nowhere near. 'When I've played with those players and watched them, you really appreciate how good they actually are. 'So there won't be any professional (golf) for me. 'But I love the game. I love watching it, I love growing it.'
