Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has made no secret of the club's admiration for Nigerian forward Etiosa Ighodaro.
'Ighodaro is a good player, but he belongs to another team, and there are administrative issues involved. If he joins us, great. If not, there are other strikers we're considering,' said the Tunisian coach.
'The player—or another striker on our list—will be welcomed. But we must wait for the administrative side of things to be sorted before anything is finalised,' Nabi concluded.

Barker ‘excited' about his squad as Stellies welcome Chiefs in league opener

There can be few people looking forward to the start of the 2025-26 campaign more than Steve Barker, the irrepressible, 57-year-old coach of Stellenbosch FC. This is despite Stellies having to almost rebuild their team every season with the big Gauteng clubs snapping up many of Barker's gems produced by his club's excellent scouting and academy. In recent seasonss Barker, who has been with Stellies since their promotion seven seasons ago, has lost players such as Ashley du Preez to Kaizer Chiefs, Deano van Rooyen and Sihle Nduli to Orlando Pirates and Iqraam Rayners and Jayden Adams, who were recently joined by left back Fawaaz Basadien at Mamelodi Sundowns. Centreback Tylon Smith, the 20-yearold who was player of the tournament as Amajita win the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations this year and who was expected to shine at Stellies in the coming season, was sold to English championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Springbok steps away from rugby due to health concerns

Springbok Women flanker and Bulls Daisies captain Lusanda Dumke is stepping away from rugby due to health concerns. The 28-year-old loose forward, who earned 33 Test caps and captained the Springbok Women on three occasions, led the Isuzu Bulls Daisies to their third consecutive Women's Premier Division title in 2025. Springbok Women performance coach Swys de Bruin acknowledged Dumke's importance to the national setup and expressed full support for her decision. 'Lusanda has been pivotal for us, but we now wish her the best as she battles her medical condition,' said De Bruin. 'Her absence will have an impact, but at the same time, the players going to the Rugby World Cup will know that playing for your country while you are fit and strong is indeed a privilege.' Dumke is a previous winner of the SA Rugby Women's Player of the Year award, and her leadership and resilience left a lasting mark on both the Bok Women and the Isuzu Bulls Daisies. Thando Manana, executive for women's rugby and strategic projects at the Blue Bulls Company, said: 'Lusanda has been more than just a captain, she's been the heartbeat of the Isuzu Bulls Daisies. Her leadership, humility, and relentless drive have shaped the culture of this team. 'While we respect her decision to step away for health reasons, her legacy will continue to inspire every player who wears this jersey. We stand firmly behind her and wish her strength and healing in the journey ahead.' Dumke has requested that her privacy be respected in this matter and no further comment will be made. Orlando Pirates v Sekhukhune: Date, kickoff time in season opener

Orlando Pirates hope to get a glorious title charge underway against Sekhukhune in what should be a high-quality season-opener. Pirates are hoping to dethrone perennial champions Sundowns, whom they meet in the MTN8 final four. The Sea Robbers kick things off against another MTN8 semi-finalist, Sekhukhune. 'Nkota is already a better player after leaving Pirates' TWO more players leave the club Orlando Stadium is the venue as Pirates and Sekhukhune do battle on Saturday, 9 August at 17:30. The Sea Robbers have a new skipper too. 29-year-old Nkosinathi Sibisi will wear the captain's armband at Pirates in 2025-2026. He was a key figure last season alongside breakout star Mbekezeli Mbokazi in the heart of defence after Thabiso Sesane was struck down with a long-term injury. What happens when Sesane returns will be fascinating, as he might even dislodge the new captain. That's a nice problem for new boss Ouaddao to have, though. Sibisi made 42 appearances last season across all competitions, including 25 in the league. Saleng paints a grim picture of his Orlando Pirates future Sibisi, Sesane and Maswanganyi ponder things at a set piece.
