In 28 Years Later, written by Academy Award-nominated writer Alex Garland, it's been almost three decades since the rage virus escaped a biological weapons laboratory. And now, still in a ruthlessly enforced quarantine, some have found ways to exist amidst the infected. One such group of survivors lives on a small island connected to the mainland by a single, heavily-defended causeway. When one of the group leaves the island on a mission into the dark heart of the mainland, he discovers secrets, wonders and horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors as well.
The original 28 Days Later (2002) takes place in a world where animal rights activists have freed a group of infected chimpanzees to horrifying results. Murphy's bicycle courier wakes up from a coma in a deserted London hospital 28 days later to find that the world has been overrun with zombies.
The 28 horror franchise pics originally was released respectively by Searchlight Pictures and Fox Atomic labels at the former 20th Century Fox, the two films combined to gross nearly $150M at the global box office. Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris starred in 28 Days Later, while Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner and Robert Carlyle starred in the 2007 sequel, 28 Weeks Later.
Murphy returns to star and is also an EP. Producers are Andrew Macdonald, former head of Searchlight Pictures, Peter Rice; Bernard Bellow, Boyle and Garland. Pic stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jack O'Connell, Alfie Williams and Ralph Fiennes. The budget for the new movies are in the range of $75 million.Best of Deadline

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day' releases on-set footage and everything else to know about the upcoming sequel
We're less than a year away from the return of Tom Holland's Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and as filming gets underway in the wall-crawler's hometown of — checks notes — Glasgow, Scotland, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have begun to release a ton of information about the fourth entry in the series. So here's a rundown of everything out there about Spider-Man: Brand New Day. More from Gold Derby 'There were places I had to go that I'd never gone before': Chloë Sevigny on bold career choices, polarizing characters, and 'Monsters' Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Denée Benton, and more 'The Gilded Age' instant Emmy predictions as Season 3 ends Brand New what? Breaking with the naming convention of including the word "Home" in the title, the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie takes its name from a divisive 2008 comic book storyline, which saw Peter's marriage to Mary Jane Watson erased from the timeline — among other retcons. But since the events of No Way Home already futzed with the memory of this universe's MJ, there's some of that title's DNA baked into the film's status quo from the jump. Who is in it? Brand New Day will see the return of Holland in his fourth standalone movie and seventh MCU film overall. Also returning are Zendaya as MJ and Jacob Batalon as Ned. Joining the cast is the current on-screen Punisher, Jon Bernthal, his costar from The Bear Liza Colón-Zayas, and Sadie Sink in a mystery role that has already fueled many hair-color-related fan theories. Following the release of the teaser, The Hollywood Reporter shared that Mark Ruffalo has joined to cast, bringing the Incredible Hulk into the fold. Also appearing will be Better Call Saul's Michael Mando, who first showed up in Spider-Man: Homecoming as the Scorpion. Who's directing? After successfully helming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton was all set to take on the next Avengers film: The Kang Dynasty. And if you've been paying any attention at all to Marvel news or celebrity legal headlines, you know what happened to that. So with the Anthony and Joe Russo returning to tackle that film's new incarnation, Avengers: Doomsday, Cretton has moved over to Brand New Day, and, according to Holland, the director is bringing with him a more tactile approach to filmmaking after COVID kept No Way Home largely confined to soundstages. "Now, we're really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we're starting in Glasgow and we're gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we're putting together," Holland told Flip Your Wig. "So it's gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It's been such a long time since I've done it, it's gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we're putting together." What footage has been released so far? To mark the anniversary of Spider-Man's first appearance in Amazing Fantasy No. 15, Sony dropped a teaser-y clip featuring some fleeting, close-up looks at what was presumably Spidey's brand new suit for Brand New Day. The most notable detail is the raised black webbing on the red section of the costume, which is very reminiscent of the suit worn by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi's trilogy. Holland then shared this more complete look at the suit, which closely resembles the homemade ensemble Spidey wears at the end of No Way Home. And as location shooting in Glasgow started, Sony put out an official look at filming on a set piece, which saw Holland as Spidey, riding atop a moving military vehicle. Also, some fans were allowed on set, and the actor took time for some photo ops. When does it come out? Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2026. Why Fans Shouldn't Get Too Excited About 'Awesome' Taylor Swift Update
Why Fans Shouldn't Get Too Excited About 'Awesome' Taylor Swift Update originally appeared on Parade. A supposed new update surrounding 's original manuscript and directorial debut set Swifties screaming on social media today, but all is not as it seems. Entertainment reporter Jeff Sneider reported yesterday, Aug. 7, that there was movement on the front of the singer's feature film directorial debut, closing in on three years after news first broke that Searchlight Pictures had signed on to produce her original screenplay. "Taylor is a once-in-a-generation artist and storyteller,' Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said at the time (Greenbaum has since transitioned to Disney). 'It is a genuine joy and privilege to collaborate with her as she embarks on this exciting and new creative journey.' According to Sneider, playwright and screenwriter Alice Birch was recently brought on board for the project, reportedly to help rewrite Swift's script. "Allowing more experienced writers to rewrite scripts is standard practice in Hollywood," Sneider wrote. "I'm told that the [sic] Birch is working closely with Swift and 'tailoring' the project to her creative vision." Fans on social media were largely thrilled by the news, with words like "awesome" and "amazing" thrown around, while another said they "can't wait" to see the final product. However, our sources at Searchlight confirm that the news is not true, and Birch is not involved. Parade has also reached out to Birch's rep for comment. While details about this film's plot remain under wraps, Swift did once share with fans, "I think I will always want to tell human stories, about human emotion. I never say never, but I can't imagine myself like filming an action sequence. If it happens one day, honestly, like that'll be funny character growth, but at this point I could see it going in a more comedic, irreverent place.' She added, while in conversation at the Toronot International Film Festival in 2022, 'I don't always see myself always telling stories about extreme guttural heartbreak at your most formative age that really sort of debilitates you emotionally for years and then you have to develop the scar tissue in order to move on with your life, and then like limp your way to your typewriter, write a novel about it. I think I've done that.'Why Fans Shouldn't Get Too Excited About 'Awesome' Taylor Swift Update first appeared on Parade on Aug 8, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 8, 2025, where it first appeared.
