The Kansas City Chiefs will have a new backup quarterback on the roster this season, but like in years past, it is someone with a lot of NFL experience under their belt.

Last year Carson Wentz sat behind superstar Patrick Mahomes on the depth chart. This year, it will be free agent signee Gardner Minshew.
Head coach Andy Reid believes Minshew's veteran presence will greatly benefit Mahomes and the offense.
"He's been there — he's started, so he's got that,' Reid said in a press conference. 'He's got the confidence of the guys around him. Patrick knows he's been in there and done it, so they can bounce things off of each other."
Minshew likely won't have trouble adapting to the unique offensive scheme Reid and Mahomes have been carving up defenses with for years in KC.

Minshew is a product of the "air raid" system in college under then Washington State head coach Mike Leach. Mahomes played under a similar philosophy at Texas Tech, the place Leach first introduced the revolutionary offense to the college ranks.
After one season with the Las Vegas Raiders, Minshew joins his fourth team in four years, but Reid believes that experience in invaluable - wherever it is from in the NFL.
"It's always good to have peers that have played, and you can talk to them about it a little bit," Reid added. "I think on game day he'll be great with Patrick, just with what he's seeing from the sideline and what Pat's seeing when he's in there.'
Minshew has started in 22 of the last 27 games he's played in over the last two seasons. While he won't see that much action in Kansas City (ideally), he'll be able to recognize defenses to offer Mahomes insight, having seen them on the field recently.

The 29 year old is a former sixth round pick in 2019 of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Last year was one of his worst statistical seasons of his career, throwing for 10 interceptions and over 1,000 less yards than his 2023 campaign.
He's often a viral internet sensation with his boisterous locker room personality and electric mustache. That energetic presence, along with football knowledge, hopes to make an impact on a Chiefs team that is on the precipice of making a fourth consecutive Super Bowl appearance.

Ray Lewis takes his rightful place among the top 25 players in NFL history

Ray Lewis takes his rightful place on a list of the best players in the NFL history. More often than not, an NFL team's most famous player will be one playing on the offensive side of the ball, but this isn't the typical NFL city. The Baltimore Ravens were born out of Art Modell's decision to move the original Cleveland Browns to Maryland in 1996. It wasn't a popular move in Ohio, but B-more is most certainly thankful. The franchise has won eight divisional championships, two AFC titles, and two Super Bowls. Ray Lewis is the only man walking who was a member of both championship-winning teams, and recently, he was named among some of the best players ever to lace up a pair of cleats. Ray Lewis lands 14th on CBS Sports' top 25 players in NFL history Bryan DeArdo recently tried his hand at crafting a list of the 25 greatest NFL players ever. The finished product was quite the masterpiece. First in Ravens fans' hearts and 14th on DeArdo's list, Ray Lewis took his place among football's immortals. The entire list was stacked as follows: These types of lists are always subjective. Sure, we can toss ideas back and forth about who should be ranked higher, but it's hard to argue any of those players off the ranking. DeArdo mentions the following as his reasoning for placing Ray Lewis near the middle: "A throwback player, Lewis's intensity and mastery of his position led the Ravens to two Super Bowl titles. He was the best player on the Ravens' historically great 2000 defense that allowed just six points in three playoff games. In 17 seasons, Lewis racked up over 2,000 tackles, 31 interceptions, 41.5 sacks, 19 forced fumbles, and 20 fumble recoveries." It's hard to argue with that logic or Ray's resume. He's a two-time champion, Super Bowl 35's MVP, and a two-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year. He's a seven-time First-Team All-Pro, a three-time Second-Team All-Pro, and a 13-time Pro Bowler, and that isn't the half of it. Three times, Lewis led the NFL in solo tackles and combined tackles. He's a member of the NFL 2000s All-Decade Team, the 100th Anniversary All-Time Team, and the Baltimore Ravens Ring of Honor. He's a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Seriously, what else needs to be said? If Ray isn't on this list, it must be thrown out entirely.

Rising Ravens star earns praise while another receives the cold shoulder

A rising Ravens star Is missing from a list that everyone ought to be reading. The best NFL teams have figured it out. There are different ways to build a superior roster, but to compete annually, a franchise quarterback must be located. Now, that's easier said than done. The Miami Dolphins are still trying to replace Dan Marino, and though the Baltimore Ravens came to town in 1996, it took until 2018 to land Lamar Jackson. The journey towards the elite doesn't end with phenomenal quarterback play. It's only the beginning. Teams must invest in their offensive line, weapons for the quarterback, and elite pass rushers. The saying is well-known. Every great team has a nice mix of drafted players and free-agent acquisitions. Eric DeCosta and his staff are certainly passing the eyeball test. Kyle Hamilton is named among the NFL's elite young players, but where in the heck is Tyler Linderbaum? As the Ravens begin their quest for the organization's third Lombardi Trophy, all eyes will be on the veterans: Jackson, Derrick Henry, DeAndre Hopkins, Roquan Smith, and Jaire Alexander. The latter four names on that list arrived through trades and free agency. The scales are balanced, though. Baltimore has drafted well. Malaki Starks and Nate Wiggins are going to be stars. Mike Green is going to surprise people. Kyle Hamilton and Tyler Linderbaum are already stars. Hamilton recently ranked 11th on CBS Sports' list of the top 25 NFL players who are 25 years old and under. While that's a respectable mention, one could argue that Linderbaum's absence is a snub, but in the meantime, here's what Cody Benjamin, the writer of this one, said about Hamilton. It's hard to disagree with this theory. "It's almost unbelievable now that Hamilton started just four games as a rookie, because the last two seasons, he's been all over the ball at every level of the field for the Ravens. Need a timely sack? He can do it. Need a critical pass breakup? He's there. The Notre Dame product all but sets the standard for do-it-all safety play." Players 1-10 preceding Hamilton on this list are Ja'Marr Chase, Jayden Daniels, Penei Sewell, Patrick Surtain II, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, Sauce Gardner, Aidan Hutchinson, Brian Thomas Jr., and Derek Stingley. Linderbaum is a two-time Pro Bowler, landing on both of the most recent rosters, and it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he could venture towards All-Pro territory. Isaiah Likely is another notable name. He's second on the tight end depth chart behind the great Mark Andrews, but it is clear that Likely has starting tight end potential. Benjamin always does excellent work. He's undoubtedly one of the more informed voices in this field, but Linderbaum's absence from this list is certainly worth a challenge flag.

Patriots owner Robert Kraft 'very excited' after 'worst years' of ownership

The New England Patriots made sweeping changes to their organization in 2025 for the second consecutive offseason. Patriots owner Robert Kraft acknowledged those changes were necessary as New England looks to become a contender again. "The last two years were the worst years of my 31 years of ownership," Kraft said in a discussion with ESPN's Adam Schefter at Fanatics Fest over the weekend. "We have to change that." The Patriots posted a combined 8-26 record over the last two seasons and have changed coaches after each campaign. A 4-13 finish to the 2023 season cost franchise legend Bill Belichick his job, while Jerod Mayo was made a one-and-done coach after posting the same mark in 2024. Kraft believes new coach Mike Vrabel will be able to achieve better results and stabilize the franchise. He credited Vrabel as being "really connected with the players" and "doing great work" over his first six months with the team. Kraft also expressed confidence in the offseason moves the Patriots made to fortify their roster. He lauded the team for landing "a lot of great veterans" and bringing in a strong draft class to supplement those big-money acquisitions. NFL COACHING HOT SEAT: Brian Daboll, Mike McDaniel, NFL coaches facing pressure in 2025 The Patriots spent heavily to make the roster upgrades Kraft deemed necessary. New England doled out more than $360.8 million with its free agent contracts, per That was by far the most in the league and $95.2 million more than the second-highest spenders, the Minnesota Vikings. Thanks to those improvements, Kraft believes New England is on the right track. That has left him "very excited about the upcoming season." "We're gonna have fun this year," he said. "I promise."
