Pete Wicks brands Strictly's Jowita 'most important person' after romance claims
Pete Wicks may have been an unexpected face on Strictly Come Dancing, but the former TOWIE star surprised everyone, including himself, by dancing his way to the semi-finals.
Reflecting on his journey, Pete has credited his professional partner Jowita Przystał not only for his success on the show, but for becoming a key figure in his life.
The reality TV star was paired up with the Strictly professional last Autumn and while sparks flew at the very beginning, Pete was he was stunned at how important Jowita quickly became to him in his life.
For Pete, the key to making it to the semi-finals of Strictly Come Dancing was all thanks to his partner Jowita, who he says helped change his life for the better.
'A lot of that [making it to the semi-finals] if I'm totally honest, is down to Jowita,' he said. 'She was the best partner I could have had... she's become one of the most important in my life. She's one of my best mates, and I adore her. She had to put up with me, she dragged me through it, because it certainly wasn't the dancing."
Though his performances were known for their humor, Pete approached the whole experience with surprising seriousness after quickly realising how much it meant to him.
'I didn't take myself too seriously but I took the show really seriously, and I took the process really seriously, I took the learning really seriously,' he told Mail Online. 'I didn't really enjoy learning things, and that was my favourite part of the whole thing.'
It comes after Pete previously said that Jowita will be his "friend for life" as he settled romance rumours surrounding the pair. Back in December, the TOWIE star left the competition after exceeding everyone's expectations. At the time, he told Jowita the 'experience wouldn't have been anything without her'.
Taking to Instagram, shortly after his Strictly journey ended, Pete posted: "This experience wouldn't have been anything without Jowita. She believed in me since the first day and never stopped. She supported me, listened to me, made me laugh and cry but most of all she made me believe in myself when I didn't think I could do it.
"We did everything our way, and for me that was the right way. I'm so sorry that I couldn't get you to a final, I tried my best and you deserve to be there. The show may have ended for us but one thing won't, you will always have a friend in me."
The emotional tribute came after months of swirling romance rumours surrounding the pair. Pete and Jowita had been sharing plenty of quality time together outside the Strictly rehearsal studios - and their cosy bond has set tongues wagging.
In another Instagram post which was shared while he was still in the competition, Pete heaped praise on his dance partner, gushing: "I've been struggling to think of what to say and it's not often I'm lost for words. I am so overwhelmed and blessed to have had your support over the past three months, I never expected it and I have never taken it for granted."
Although some took his statement to be of a romantic nature, Pete later shut down such rumours, telling Lorraine Kelly: "We've said from day one that we're really good friends, but they just want to do what they want to do."
At the same time, Pete was said to be dating former Love Island star Maura Higgins who was appearing on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here! while Pete was on Strictly.
Maura spoke about "someone special" in the jungle but just weeks later, the Irish beauty made a savage dig at the TOWIE star on Valentines Day when she was asked of his whereabouts.
Maura clapped back at the time: "I dunno. Probably out cheating." Pete's representatives later said that the reality TV star was left 'deeply hurt' by Maura's claims as their romance came crumbling down.

One Direction star returns to stage 10 months after bandmate Liam Payne's death
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Niall Horan made a triumphant return to the stage this weekend, much to the surprise of fans—especially since it wasn't even his gig. The Irish pop star and boyband heartthrob hasn't performed live in 10 months, having wrapped up his The Show world tour in Bogota, Colombia, last autumn before embarking on a hiatus. That same month, Niall and his One Direction bandmates – Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik – were left heartbroken when Liam Payne died at the tender age of 31. Niall had spent time with Payne just weeks earlier when the Strip That Down hitmaker attended his concert in Argentina, not long before his fatal fall from a hotel balcony on October 16. Having taken some time away from the music scene following his late friend's funeral, Niall, 31, came back with a bang last night, stepping out onto a stage he's performed countless times: London's O2 Arena. He was a special guest for long-time friend and fellow music superstar Shawn Mendes, 27, who brought his On The Road Again tour to the capital. Celebrating hits from his decade in the industry, the Grammy-nominated Canadian songwriter was met with deafening screams upon introducing Niall to the crowd. Teasing Niall's arrival, Shawn began on the mic: 'I met this fella years and years ago; I was probably 16 or 17. 'I came into this industry, and I was terrified of everything and everyone. We talk a lot of s**t, but this man has been an older brother to me.' He declared sweetly: 'I love him with all my heart. Please welcome Niall Horan.' Naturally, the packed venue went wild, as footage later shared to Shawn's Instagram captured. Fans immediately burst into tears, jumped up and down, and shook their heads in disbelief as the Slow Hands vocalist made his way out, guitar in hand, of course. 'I'll remember this for a long time ❤️ Thank you so much London x', Shawn's caption read, with Niall commenting a red heart also. Together, they performed Niall's debut solo single, This Town, which was released after 1D's sabbatical began in 2016. Thanking the crowd before leaving the stage, Niall professed his love for Shawn and said: 'Take care, everyone.' As the video of the wholesome moment began doing the rounds online, fans were quick to express their excitement and plead with the celebrity pals for a proper collaboration. 'Best duo ever 🤍. We need a collab please? ❤️🙏', @niallxupdates_ commented on Instagram. 'OMG! Niall and Shawn together 😍🔥 So beautiful!', wrote @rashelhemmings. 'I didn't even realize how much I missed his voice. 💖', added Niall fan @_fatbirdsinging. @xoanyushka joked: 'i had the most normal reaction to this (i screamed)'. This is not the first time Niall and Shawn have duetted as, during Niall's lat tour, Shawn made a surprise appearance for a joint rendition of his hit Treat You Better. Meanwhile, today, Niall supporters further shared their pride at seeing him back where he belongs following his loss. Following Payne's shocking death, his bandmates all released devastating statements in tribute, with Niall taking to social media to say what had happened didn't 'feel real'. 'Liam had an energy for life and a passion for work that was infectious,' he wrote. 'He was the brightest in every room and always made everyone feel happy and secure. 'All the laughs we had over the years, sometimes about the simplest of things, keep coming to mind through the sadness. We got to live out our wildest dreams together and I will cherish every moment we had forever. 'The bond and friendship we had doesn't happen often in a lifetime.' Niall went on to send his condolences to Payne's young son, Bear, whom he shared with pop star Cheryl, and the star's family. 'I feel so fortunate that I got to see him recently,' he concluded. 'I sadly didn't know that after saying goodbye and hugging him that evening, I would be saying goodbye forever. It's heartbreaking.' More Trending Niall sweetly signed off: 'Thank you for everything, Payno.' As well as his parents and two sisters, Payne is survived by his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy. The circumstances surrounding his death have been investigated intently by police in recent months, resulting in five individuals being arrested in connection, among whom were a friend of Payne, the hotel manager, two employees, and a waiter. After months of proceedings, the latest is that three have been acquitted and two remain under suspicion. Got a story? BBC Strictly Come Dancing 'police called in' after drug allegations probe
The BBC has reportedly called in the Metropolitan Police over allegations surrounding Strictly Come Dancing, with the force said to be investigating a number of claims The BBC has reportedly called in assistance of the police to investigate allegations surrounding Strictly Come Dancing. The corporation is said to have contacted the police following an inquiry into the popular dance show by lawyers. An investigation had already been launched into the programme following alleged accusations that two of its stars had used cocaine. Detectives are thought to be looking into other claims related to the show, as reported by the Mirror. Strictly is due to return to our screens in just a few weeks as the 23rd series kicks off. It has been under the spotlight as of late, after being wrapped up in a number of controversies with the future of it's airing at one point in doubt. "It's a significant new development in the BBC 's recent string of crises that they have now got the police involved in investigating allegations surrounding Strictly," an insider revealed. The TV insider continued: "This is a very dramatic turn of events. Despite all the show and its team have been through over recent months, it's hugely controversial that you've now got Scotland Yard detectives probing Strictly." "This is their biggest prime-time family entertainment show, so it's not a good look for the BBC," they told The Sun. Strictly has made headlines following allegations of bullying and inappropriate behaviour. It is believed to be the first time the BBC has contacted the police over allegations connected to the show. When approached by the Mirror, the BBC declined to comment on any police investigation. A BBC spokesperson said earlier this month: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. "We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." Earlier this month, the BBC reportedly brought in a leading law firm to probe allegations of cocaine use by two stars, with reports suggesting their drug taking was common knowledge behind the scenes. Former contestants, professional dancers, and production staff are being asked to speak with lawyers at Pinsent Masons to raise any concerns they might have, according to reports. It comes after drug use allegations were submitted to the BBC in March by Russells Solicitors representing a celebrity participant. In a statement shared with the Mirror, a BBC representative said: "We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns. It would not be appropriate for us to comment further." Since then, it was reported that executives have offered those performers the opportunity of rehab. It was also claimed there could be random drug testing introduced for the upcoming tours, which are famous for their after-show parties. A source told the Sun: "The BBC is taking the allegations really seriously. Bosses are aware of the two stars in question and have a duty of care to make sure they're OK." They further stated: "As per BBC policy, the option of specialised professional support is on the table and will be offered. While drug testing won't happen on the main show, bosses are considering bringing in random checks for the tour next year."
