Cabinet approves 4 new semiconductor projects with ₹4,600 crore investment
With these approvals, a total of 10 semiconductor projects worth around ₹1.60 trillion are now set to be developed across six states. These projects aim to boost domestic chip production, strengthen India's electronics manufacturing ecosystem, and create thousands of jobs.
The newly approved projects come from SiCSem, Continental Device India Pvt. Ltd (CDIL), 3D Glass Solutions Inc., and Advanced System in Package (ASIP) Technologies. Together, they will involve an investment of about ₹4,600 crore and create direct employment for 2,034 skilled professionals, along with many indirect jobs.

• Punjab will see CDIL's facility expansion
• Andhra Pradesh will house ASIP's manufacturing unit
SiCSem in Odisha: First compound fab in India
SiCSem, in collaboration with Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd, UK, will set up the country's first commercial compound semiconductor fab in Bhubaneswar's Info Valley. This facility will produce Silicon Carbide (SiC) devices used in missiles, defence systems, electric vehicles, railways, fast chargers, solar inverters, and more. It will have an annual capacity of 60,000 wafers and 96 million packaged units.
3D Glass Solutions Inc. will set up a high-tech facility in Odisha for advanced semiconductor packaging and embedded glass substrates. This will bring world-leading packaging technology to India, with an annual capacity of 69,600 glass panel substrates, 50 million assembled units, and 13,200 advanced modules.
The products will be used in defence, AI, high-performance computing, automotive, photonics, and communication systems.
ASIP in Andhra Pradesh
ASIP Technologies, partnering with APACT Co. Ltd, South Korea, will build a plant with an annual output of 96 million units for applications in mobile phones, set-top boxes, and automobiles.
CDIL in Punjab
CDIL will expand its Mohali facility to produce high-power semiconductor devices like MOSFETs, IGBTs, Schottky diodes, and transistors. The expansion will have a capacity of 158.38 million units annually, supporting EVs, renewable energy, industrial systems, and telecom infrastructure.
Cabinet approves Lucknow Metro Phase-1B
The Cabinet also cleared Phase-1B of the Lucknow Metro Rail Project, an 11.165 km corridor with 12 stations (seven underground and five elevated). Once complete, Lucknow will have a 34 km metro network.
Phase-1B will link key areas like Aminabad, Chowk, King George's Medical University, and major heritage sites. It aims to cut traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and boost tourism and local business.
The project is expected to:
• Reduce road congestion in densely populated areas
• Lower carbon emissions
• Improve travel times to airports, railway stations, and bus depots
• Provide better access to jobs, healthcare, and education

'124 Not Out': Minta Devi slams opposition for using her face on T-shirts
PATNA: Minta Devi, a 35-year-old from Bihar , who unexpectedly became the INDIA bloc's "vote chori" mascot after a data entry error pegged her age at 124, on Wednesday objected to the opposition using her name and photo on T-shirts to target the Union govt. "Politics is being done in my name. Who gave Priyanka Gandhi and others the right to display my face and name on their T-shirts?" asked Minta, a first-time voter from Siwan. She said the controversy had caused "mental torture" to her middle-class family. Minta explained she had applied online for a voter ID, submitting her Aadhaar as proof. A clerical error recorded her birth year as 1900 instead of 1990. The mistake came to her notice only after the opposition's "124 Not Out" campaign went viral. "This is my first voter ID card, and it has created such an uproar," she said, adding in jest that if her official age was 124, the govt should extend her old-age benefits. "Since the Election Commission has made me a grandmother, PM Modi should give me something too," she quipped. She stressed she wanted no part in any campaign and sought to be left out of the row.

Rahul Gandhi takes EC dig over tea with 'dead voters'
NEW DELHI: Sharpening his criticism of the SIR of electoral rolls in Bihar, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday remarked that he had had the unique experience of having tea with some "dead" voters from Bihar. Rahul and other INDIA bloc netas are all set to embark on a 'Vote Adhikar Yatra' starting Aug 17, to make the "battle against vote chori a mass movement". Congress said, "Seven voters in Bihar, all very much alive, shared tea with Rahul Gandhi today - even as the Election Commission 's SIR lists them as 'dead'." "There have been many interesting experiences in life, but I never got the chance to have tea with 'dead people'. For this unique experience, thank you Election Commission!" Rahul said on X. Congress said they voters, who belong to RJD MP Tejashwi Yadav's constituency of Raghopur, were removed from the electoral rolls despite having completed the requisite paperwork. Congress also hit back at BJP for its claim of irregularities on seats contested by some top opposition netas, with Pawan Khera telling PTI the data shared points to the governing party's collusion with EC and demanding that 2024 Lok Sabha polls be considered "null and void".

Endorsement of Congress drive is 'clip chori': Actor Menon
PATNA: Actor Kay Kay Menon has denied any role in Congress's vote theft campaign after a video surfaced suggesting he had endorsed the drive. The actor said the clip was taken from his promotion for a web series, edited and used without his permission. Menon's statement came hours after Bihar's Minta Devi, the "124 Not Out" poster girl of INDIA bloc's "Vote Chori" protest in Delhi, criticised Congress for using her name and image for the protest. "Please let it be noted that I did not act in this ad," Menon said in a social media post, adding "a clip" from a promotion for his web series "was edited and used without any permission". He reacted after the video used by Congress showed Menon's web series character, Himmat Singh , urging viewers to join the campaign.
