Police receive petitions on land disputes, family rows
In the PGRS programme held at the district police office, the SP received 83 grievances from the public from various places in the district. He interacted with the complainants, learned about their issues, and assured them that justice would be done for the victims. He spoke to the local police officers through the video conference in front of the complainants and ordered them to update him on the action taken on the urges from time to time.
In the 83 urges received by the police, the authorities observed that most of them are for the resolution of disputes and differences between family members and domestic violence, cheating in the name of jobs, and to bring consensus between parties on the borders and distribution of land and assets.
The SC/ST cell inspector Durga Prasad, DTC inspector Shamimulla, traffic inspector Panduranga Rao, PGRS SI Janardhana Rao, and other staff participated in the PGRS programme.

Madras HC orders man's release after SC freed co-convicts
CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has ordered the release of a convict in a case of dacoity and murder since his co-convicts were released based on the orders of the Supreme Court commuting their sentence from life imprisonment to 10 years. A division bench of Justices MS Ramesh and V Lakshminarayanan passed the orders on Tuesday on a petition filed by Indira Gandhi who prayed for the court to release her husband D Balu alias Balasubramaniam, who has been languishing in the Cuddalore Central Prison after being convicted for the 2002 dacoity and murder at Virudhachalam, on the basis of parity with the co-convicts. The bench said it has no difficulty in arriving at the inevitable conclusion that had he filed an appeal in the SC, his sentence too would have been reduced to 10 years. 'Even otherwise, such a benefit of reduced sentence ought to be extended to him as well by applying the principle of parity, in line with the three accused as held by the Supreme Court. Failure to do so would be violative of Article 21 of the Constitution and may amount to travesty of justice,' the bench said. The bench further said, 'We cannot lose sight that there are several reasons, including poverty, which prevent a person from appealing before the higher forums of law. The lack of procedural appeal should not prevent equal treatment of similarly-placed accused.' Pointing to Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution, it said by resorting to these constitutional provisions, it becomes the constitutional duty of the court to ensure parity.

One More Arrested In Tamil Nadu Techie Dishonour Killing Case
Chennai: The Crime Branch-CID arrested another person on Wednesday in the alleged dishonour killing of 23-year-old Dalit techie Kavin Selvaganesh. Investigators said Jeyapaul was arrested for allegedly sheltering the key accused, Surjith. Jeyapaul, Surjith's cousin, allegedly hacked Kavin to death on July 23 in Tamil Nadu's Tirunelveli, opposing his sister's inter-caste relationship with the victim. Earlier, Surjith's father, Saravanan, a serving Sub-Inspector, was also arrested in connection with the murder. Both father and son have been arrested for murder, and the case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act was registered. Surjith's mother, also a police Sub-Inspector, has been suspended, and the family of the victim has demanded her arrest too. Kavin, a software engineer from Thoothukudi, was treating his ailing grandfather at a Siddha centre — where his girlfriend, a Siddha doctor from a dominant caste, worked — when he was allegedly lured away and killed. CCTV footage reportedly shows Surjith taking Kavin on his bike shortly before the attack. The murder, now being probed by the CBCID, has triggered widespread outrage over caste-based violence and police complicity. Kavin's family had initially refused to accept his body, demanding the arrest of all those involved. With Jeyapaul's arrest, investigators believe they have uncovered a key link in the chain of events following the killing, as the case continues to unfold. Kavin's girlfriend, in an unverified video, has said she truly loved him, and her father didn't know about their relationship and claimed her parents had no role in the murder.

1 2 Tirunelveli: The CB-CID on Wednesday arrested a relative of S Surjith, the main accused in the murder of dalit youth C Kavin Selva Ganesh on July 27, for allegedly harbouring him after the crime. Surjith and his father, police sub-inspector Saravanan, have already been arrested. Though Kavin's family demanded the arrest of Surjith's mother Krishnakumari, she was not arrested. Kavin was murdered by Surjith allegedly over his relationship with his sister. As investigation continued, the agency on Wednesday arrested Surjith's cousin Jayapaul. Surjith and Saravanan, who were in CB-CID police custody for the past two days, were reportedly interrogated. Their statements were taken after being taken to the crime scene. Sources said that Surjith hid the murder weapon, a billhook, and blood-stained clothes in Jayapaul's house. On Wednesday evening, Surjith, Saravanan, and Jayapaul were produced before the II Additional District Court for SC/ST Act cases, Tirunelveli. Jayapaul was remanded in judicial custody until Aug 26.
