Sabah moves to include Tatana, Kadazan Tangaa, Murut Timugon and Lotud in classrooms
Published on: Sun, Jun 15, 2025 Text Size: PENAMPANG: The proposal to expand the Kadazandusun language curriculum in schools to include four other Sabah ethnic languages has been submitted to the Federal Government, said Upko President Datuk Ewon Benedick ( pic ). Ewon said the initiative, backed by groups including KLF, MNC and Sabah Ethnic Language Association, aims to strengthen the presence of ethnic languages in the education system.
Advertisement The plan proposes the inclusion of Tatana (Kuala Penyu), Kadazan Tangaa (Penampang), Murut Timugon (Tenom), and Suang Lotud (Tuaran) alongside the existing Dusun Bunduliwan syllabus. He confirmed that Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has agreed to form a special committee to assess the proposal, with pilot programmes to begin in selected schools in relevant districts. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said noted that the amendments were introduced to the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 (Act A1750), which was approved by the King on Feb 25 this year and gazetted on March 7. Advertisement 'It introduces new sections, 507B to 507G, specifically to address bullying committed by any means and methods, including online. 'These amendments provide for offences related to harassment, threats, bullying, insults and misuse of identity information, including situations that may lead to suicide attempts as well as cases where the person provoked attempts or commits suicide,' she said in a statement here today. She said offenders are liable to imprisonment for a term that may be extended up to 10 years, and a fine or both. '…it is the responsibility of every citizen to study and comply with these laws that are now in effect,' she said. Advertisement She advised the public to obtain information directly from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department or the Legal Aid Department for clarification on the amendments. MP's former personal assistant arrested for uploading video without authorisation

Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohd Azam Ismail said the man, 43, was arrested at 11.30 am on Friday in Pasir Mas, Kelantan after the MP discovered the video post on a Facebook account named 'Mohd Syahrizal' on July 30. Advertisement 'The post resulted in negative comments by other Facebook users that stressed the individual and affected their reputation and psychological state, causing the MP to feel threatened and afraid should anything happen to them due to the Facebook account holder's actions. 'A Samsung and a Vivo mobile phone belonging to the suspect were seized to facilitate investigations,' he said in a statement today, adding that the suspect has been remanded for four days from Aug 9 till tomorrow. Influencer apologises for filming during national anthem

Choo Hao Ren ( pic ) acknowledged that his actions, caught on video in a clip that went viral, were inappropriate and that he should have sung the national anthem solemnly and with respect. Advertisement In a statement on his social media pages, Choo said he was deeply sorry for his actions and promised to act more appropriately in such settings. Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh however called for punitive action against Choo for disrespecting the national anthem and the country. 'This is not a question of race or political party, but about how it's the responsibility of all Malaysians to respect this country. That's why we want such people to be punished severely,' he said in a Facebook post. 'It's not that we want to play up the issue, but the issue of respecting the country is more important,' the Melaka executive councillor added.
