Oasis 'drops popular song from setlist' after link to disgraced pop star

Metro04-05-2025
Oasis have reportedly dropped a popular song from their upcoming reunion tour setlist over its links to a disgraced pop star.
Brothers Noel Gallagher, 57, and Liam Gallagher, 52, are getting back together for a series of stadium gigs across the UK and Ireland this summer, before heading off for a string of international shows.
Having not performed together in nearly 15 years, it has now been revealed that the duo have reportedly axed their single Hello from their set list due to its association with disgraced pop star Gary Glitter.
The opening track from their iconic 1995 album (What's the Story) Morning Glory? is reportedly being cut from the setlist because it includes lyrics from Gary's 1973 hit Hello, I'm Back Again with the melody of his original song playing subtly underneath.
A source told The Sun: 'The lyrics of the song would obviously have been a good fit for the reunion tour but the band have decided to leave it in the past.
'It would be inappropriate to play it given its connotations to Glitter and his convictions.'
Glitter was put behind bars in 2015 for 16 years after sexually abusing three schoolgirls.
His sentence will end in February 2031.
Glitter was automatically released from HMP The Verne, a low-security prison in Portland, Dorset, in February 2023.
He had served half of his fixed-term determinate sentence but was imprisoned less than six weeks after walking free.
This was after police monitoring showed he had breached his licence conditions by reportedly trying to access the dark web and viewing downloaded images of children.
Glitter, whose real name is Paul Gadd, was at the height of his fame when he preyed on his vulnerable victims.
Oasis broke up back in 2009, with Noel abruptly quitting just before they were scheduled to perform at a Paris festival.
After shooting to fame in 1994, Oasis were responsible for some of the UK music scene's most definitive tunes, from Wonderwall to Stop Crying Your Heart Out.
Despite their reunion announcement taking the world by storm, rumours have emerged that the pair are still keeping their distance behind the scenes.
According to one insider, the brothers are holding separate concert after-parties in their own private green rooms, far away from each other.
The Sun reported: 'You might be seeing Oasis on stage but you will not be seeing Liam and Noel together afterwards.
'Each of them had a VIP list where their friends and famous fans could buy their tickets.
'But depending on which brother you got your ticket off, it's their green room and after-party you're invited to.' More Trending
The publication's source continued: 'So if you're on Noel's list but fancy going across to say hello to Liam, it's going to be a case of trying to blag entry. It seems like they are totally separate events.
'It's gutting for people who want to hang out with both of them, but it seems they're keeping it all at a distance.'
Metro have contacted representatives for Oasis for comment.

"I've done stadiums before and all that, but I don't mind telling you, my legs had turned to jelly after about halfway through the second song. "It's been an amazing thing. Really is an amazing thing. It's difficult to put into words actually. Article continues below "Every night is the crowd's first night, you know what I mean? Spending surge in Dublin during Oasis gigs

Card spending in Dublin increased by 9 per cent over the weekend as Oasis played two sold-out Croke Park gigs, according to analysis from Revolut. Saturday was the first time in over 16 years that Oasis had played Ireland since Slane in 2009. Advertisement As a result of the two gigs, Revolut revealed that card spend soared by more than 9 per cent in Dublin last weekend when compared with the previous (August 9th-10th), with the volume of transactions rising by over 8 per cent. A similar surge in spending in Dublin was seen when Taylor Swift played at the Aviva Stadium last June. Over 16 per cent more was spent in Dublin bars, cafes, restaurants, and nightclubs over the weekend versus the previous one as fans partied hard. Anticipation had been building across the capital throughout August, with a pop-up store on St Stephen's Green setting the tone since opening on August 4th, as fans scrambled for sought-after Oasis merch. Advertisement Over last and the previous weekend, merchandise stores in Dublin recorded hundreds of thousands of euro in revenues, which is likely due to the store's lengthy queues. Owing to popular demand, the pop-up store has since announced extended dates. Oasis fans outside Croke Park. Taxi drivers also benefited from the concerts, with a 15 per cent uplift in revenues last weekend. For those that missed out on tickets, there was still a party atmosphere across the county, with Dublin sales of store-bought beer, wine, and liquor rising by over a third versus August 9th-10th. Dublin restaurants, pubs, and licensed stores enjoyed a boost in 'Cigarettes & Alcohol' sales to Oasis fans across the weekend — the bank's Revolut Business customers recorded an increase in revenues, with those in the 'food, beverages or tobacco' industries experiencing a notable 2 per cent uplift when compared with the previous weekend. 'It's safe to say that Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' gave the Dublin economy a boost last weekend,' said general manager at Revolut Bank UAB - Ireland Branch, Malcolm Craig. 'Consumer spending of this level in just one weekend sends a very strong signal about the confidence of our more than 3 million customers in Ireland. Last weekend highlights the value of attracting genuine A-listers to Ireland and that Revolut remains Irish people's preferred way to spend.'
