Husband gets justice: Akhilesh sacks MLA for praising Yogi Adityanath
SP chief Akhilesh Yadav said Ms Pooja, whose husband Raju Pal was shot dead by gangster Atiq Ah-med in 2005, was 'immediately expelled' from the party due to her engagement in 'anti-party activ-ities and serious indiscipline which continued despite prior warnings and caused significant harm to the party'. The expulsion created a political uproar with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state ac-cusing the opposition of being 'anti-Dalit'.
In his statement in Hindi, Yadav said: 'She (Ms Pooja) is no longer permitted to participate in any par-ty programs and will not be invited to them in the future.'
The development came hours after Ms Pooja thanked the Chief Minister for 'listening to her when no one else did' over her husband's murder. Former Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal was shot dead on January 25, 2005, days after he married Ms Pooja. The murder, police said, was a result of political rivalry with gangster Atiq Ahmed's brother Ashraf, whom Raju had defeated in the 2004 bypoll to the Prayagraj West seat. In February 2023, Umesh Pal, a key witness in the murder case, was shot dead in Prayagraj's Sulem Saray area.
Days later, Atiq and Ashraf - both of whom were arrested - were shot dead by three men when they were being taken for a medical check-up in Prayagraj. Atiq was shot in the head from behind, nearly at point-blank range. Ashraf, too, was shot dead, as the murder was captured on camera. This came days after Atiq's son Asad was killed in an alleged encounter in Jhansi. All three men were later ar-rested.

He then created a second fundraiser called 'Support for Patriot Standing for Trump.' In his message on the page, Nall wrote, 'I am just an ordinary working man who took a stand against people who want to try to slander President Trump's name and malign him with Adolf Hitler. I did not harm anyone, but I got maced as I was walking away. I'm sure they will pursue some kind of charges. I see these kinds of ridiculous signs everyday and I just got fed up with the lies. I work hard for my family and feel like our President is a good person who is on our side, America's side for once.' He added, "I've lived and worked in Des Moines my whole life. Protests happen all the time. But illegally covering the bridges in ridiculous propaganda comparing Trump to Hitler is crossing the line. I didn't put my hands on anyone. I took the signs down. TTD to carry out extensive propagation of Sanatana Dharma
Tirupati: The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with grandeur at the Parade Grounds in the TTD Administrative Building here on Friday. TTD chairman B R Naidu, along with executive officer J Syamala Rao, hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour from the security personnel. In his address, the chairman announced that the TTD will conduct extensive programmes for the propagation of Sanatana Dharma with the participation of the public. He recalled the sacrifices of freedom fighters and expressed confidence that India would soon emerge as the world's third-largest economy. He said, following the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, several new initiatives have been taken up, including implementation of AI technology for faster and more convenient darshan, improved quality and distribution of Annadanam with special counters in crowded areas, and annadanam with milk every three hours at the Vaikuntham Queue Complex. Vada has been introduced at Tarigonda Vengamamba Annadanam Bhavan from March, and a new SRIVANI ticket counter provides same-day evening darshan for tickets issued in the morning. Other measures include modernisation of Kalyanakatta, 110 per cent increase in Tirumala greenery, an anti-drone security system, a new quality-testing lab, phased development of sub-temples, construction of temples in various states and UTs, increased grants for temples in Dalit, tribal, and fisher communities, and strengthening of Srivari Seva with professional and NRI volunteers. EO Syamala Rao, extending I-Day greetings, said efforts are being made to ensure comfortable darshan for pilgrims from across the country and abroad, and lauded officials and staff for their services. Outlining initiatives, he said daily rituals are being performed strictly as per Agama Shastra, preparations are underway for the annual Salakatla Brahmotsavam from September 24 to October 2, and transparency in room allotment has been enhanced. A new PAC-5 complex to accommodate 10,000 pilgrims will open soon. The SV Museum is being redeveloped with Rs 145 crore donor funds, featuring 3D/7D experiences, tradition galleries, and vehicle services. Annadanam will be continued at Vontimitta temple, the Alipiri check post is being modernised, and a Cyber Security Lab will be established. Projects include an Integrated Administrative Building in Tirumala, new premium and budget waiting halls, 120 additional free APSRTC bus trips daily, upgradation of SVIMS with an Rs.80 crore additional grant, and wage hikes for Potu workers. He urged staff to maintain their enthusiasm and team spirit in serving devotees.

GPS in every bus, women RTC drivers in AP soon
Vijayawada: Marking the 79th Independence Day, Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Friday launched the 'Stree Shakti' scheme, under which domiciled girls, women and transgender individuals can travel for free in specified categories of RTC bus services throughout the state. The scheme, part of the government's 'Super Six' promises, was inaugurated by Naidu, alongside Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Education Minister Nara Lokesh, and Bharatiya Janata Party's Andhra Pradesh unit president D. Purandeswari. The Chief Minister stated that the initiative is aimed at empowering women economically and enhancing their dignity. To enliven the occasion, the leaders travelled by bus from Undavalli to Vijayawada Pandit Nehru Bus Stand, handing out "zero-fare" tickets to women passengers. Along the way, they were greeted by cheering crowds. The leaders interacted with women on the bus, asking them how the free travel would benefit them. Addressing a public gathering at the bus stand, Chief Minister Naidu expressed his happiness at fulfilling a promise made to the women of the state. "I am very happy today. We have fulfilled our promise to our daughters," he said. "In the past, we had a reservation policy for women on RTC buses. Now, we are providing free bus travel. From now on, every woman can travel for free anywhere in the state. After traveling in the bus with my friend and Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and talking to the women, I feel a great sense of satisfaction that we have done something good for them." The Chief Minister described the free bus travel as a "gift from a brother" to the state's 2.62 crore women. "Out of the 11,449 buses operated by APSRTC, women can travel for free in 8,458 buses, which is 74 per cent of the fleet." The Chief Minister emphasised that the scheme provides economic security for women, especially for those who travel for work. Naidu said that the 129 depots, 423 bus stations, and four zonal workshops across the state are being reinforced. He announced that GPS will be installed in every bus to enhance women's safety. "Women would also be appointed as RTC drivers soon.'
