ESPN, Fox Rejoin Forces for Sports-Focused Streaming Bundle

ESPN and Fox's previous effort at a sports-centric streaming service was a nonstarter, but the two companies are teaming up again. The Disney-owned ESPN and Fox announced a plan on Monday to bundle their forthcoming direct-to-consumer offerings. The ESPN streaming service (just called 'ESPN') and Fox One will be offered as a bundle beginning Oct. 2. (Both platforms are set to go live on Aug. 21.) The bundle offering comes seven months after the death of Venu, a proposed sports-only streaming service that Disney, Fox and Warner Bros. Discovery had planned. The companies scuttled the service amid legal challenges and Disney's decision to press forward with its standalone ESPN service. The ESPN-Fox One bundle will give subscribers a wealth of sports options from the two companies, including the ESPN networks and Fox's sports networks FS1 and FS2. Fox One also includes programming from Fox News, the Fox broadcast network and its local stations. 'Working with Fox One on this bundle offer allows us to bring ESPN's world-class sports content to even more fans in a seamless and innovative way,' said Sean Breen, executive vp Disney Platform Distribution. 'This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to delivering premium experiences across platforms and meeting consumers where they are — anytime, anywhere.' Said Tony Billeter, senior vp strategy and business development for Fox Direct to Consumer, 'Announcing ESPN as our first bundle partner is evidence of our desire to deliver the best possible value and viewing experience to our shared customers. Viewers will have access to an incredible portfolio of content through this bundle, including NFL, NBA, WNBA, MLB, NHL, college football and basketball, NASCAR, Indycar, as well as the upcoming FIFA World Cup, and more as we continue to look for opportunities to streamline the user experience, especially for the ultimate sports fan.'Best of The Hollywood Reporter How the Warner Brothers Got Their Film Business Started Meet the World Builders: Hollywood's Top Physical Production Executives of 2023 Men in Blazers, Hollywood's Favorite Soccer Podcast, Aims for a Global Empire

ESPN, Fox Offer Streaming Sports Bundle With New Services

You can't call it Venu, but a new offer from Disney's ESPN and Fox Corp. aims to provide some of the scope of that scuttled streaming project that would have included sports offerings from those two companies, as well as Warner Bros Discovery. Disney and Fox plan to offer their new streaming services — Fox One and ESPN — as a bundle in an offer that will become available October 2 and cost $39.99 a month. Both fledging broadband offers debut as stand-alone services on August 21, with ESPN seeking $29.99 a month and Fox charging $19.99 per month. Deadline previously reported the bundled offer, which does not include any of Warner Bros. Discovery's products. Fox One will make available not only Fox's NFL and Major League Baseball telecasts, but also Fox News Channel, Fox Weather, Fox Business Network, Fox's broadcasting network and Fox's local stations. The new ESPN stand-alone service gives subscribers access to all of ESPN's many feeds, including its flagship cable network and its regional sports outlets. The two companies last year worked with Warner Bros. Discovery to bundle all three conglomerates' sports products under a single umbrella, but were prevented from doing so by the courts. By the time the legalities were ironed out, Disney agreed to take a stake in the plaintiff, the Fubo streaming service, and fold its Hulu live-TV service into it, and others were planning similar court maneuvers. Fox and ESPN portrayed the new offer as being in the interest of sports fans. 'This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to delivering premium experiences across platforms and meeting consumers where they are – anytime, anywhere,' said Sean Breen, executive vice president of Disney Platform Distribution, in a prepared statement. Fox sees the alliance as 'evidence of our desire to deliver the best possible value and viewing experience to our shared customers,' said Tony Billetter, senior vice president of strategy and business development of Fox's direct to consumer operations, in a statement.
