Dealership ordered to refund buyer RM4,600 for failing to deliver car
IT HAS been over six months since an account executive booked a new car but the vehicle has yet to be delivered to her.
Nuraliah Izzati Mohamad Mirizan had gone to a car dealership at one of the hypermarkets along the Kota Tinggi-Johor Baru trunk road on Nov 3, 2024.
The dealer, she recalled, had been displaying cars at the common area of the hypermarket for many years.
'My mother had even bought a car from the dealership without any issues,'' said Nuraliah Izzati.
The 22-year-old claimant chose a sedan priced at RM49,980 and paid a RM100 booking fee on the same day.
She then paid the dealer a RM4,500 deposit via two bank transfers of RM2,250 each on Nov 19 and 20.
'The car was supposed to have been delivered in January this year, as promised by the saleswoman,'' Nuraliah Izzati said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal at Menara Ansar, Johor Baru.
However, the company failed to fulfil its promise.
The claimant said she felt lucky that she had not signed the bank loan for the car although the loan had been approved on Nov 19, based on documents forwarded to her by the company.
'I went to see the saleswoman again in February and she promised to deliver the car in March before Hari Raya Aidilfitri, which fell on March 31,' Nuraliah Izzati recalled.
The claimant added that she had wanted to use the car during the Hari Raya period but once again, the company failed to deliver the vehicle.
Dissatisfied with the service rendered by the company, Nuraliah Izzati called the car manufacturer's headquarters in Selangor to check on the status of the car.
'To my surprise, the saleswoman had not even booked the car under my name when I paid the booking fee on Nov 3, 2024,'' said the claimant.
Tribunal president Hafez Zalkapli ordered the respondent to refund RM4,600 (comprising the RM100 booking fee and RM4,500 deposit) to the claimant within two weeks.

MR says High Court ruling is a relief after lengthy trial
KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysia Rugby (MR) staff member Murni Azlina Yurdeksi has been ordered by the High Court to pay RM4.9 million in damages to the national body. In its ruling on March 4, the court found Murni Azlina liable for breach of trust, fraud and conversion, and ordered her to pay RM4,923,468.07 within 14 days. An annual interest of five per cent was to apply from March 13, 2023, until the full amount is paid. The court also dismissed a counterclaim filed by Murni Azlina and ordered her to pay RM30,000 in legal costs. MR honorary secretary Fahmy Jalil said the decision brought relief after a lengthy trial and that the union could now focus on its administrative affairs. "The civil suit is over, but the criminal suit is still ongoing. We are glad the civil case is settled and hope to recover the funds, though it will be tough if she is declared bankrupt," said Fahmy. "The new MR executive committee has moved on from the missing funds. It was tough to run programmes without the money, but we have managed to raise funds and continued with what we had." In 2022, MR discovered that a substantial sum of money was allegedly siphoned from its bank account by an administrative staff member. It is alleged that the staff member, who handled MR's accounts, had forged the signatures of both the MR president and treasurer to make cash withdrawals dating back to 2019. Fahmy said MR had since strengthened its financial procedures to prevent similar incidents. "We used to have four bank accounts, but we've closed three and now only maintain one. We've also reduced cheque usage and switched to online banking, which allows for better monitoring of our funds," he said.

Temple president Manogaran Krishnasamy said everything is expected to be completed by the end of this month, in time for the opening on July 7. 'The construction work was delayed for about four years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. We are grateful that the temple is nearly complete, accommodating around 400 devotees in Sibu. 'In light of this, we wish to extend our heartfelt thanks to the Sarawak government, through the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor), for their significant assistance, as well as to the public and everyone who has contributed in various ways,' he told The Borneo Post at the site today. The new ornate building is situated next to the existing temple. 'The temple was built in 1920, which was just a small hut back then. Later on, this existing building was built in 1971,' said Manogaran. He pointed out the cost of construction was nearly RM2 million from the initial RM1.1 million due to rising building material costs and wages. Skilled workers from India were involved in the temple's intricate design. — Photo by Peter Boon Initially, 10 skilled workers from India were involved in the project but as it nears completion, only four remain. 'Each worker earns a salary ranging from RM3,000 to RM4,000. Yes, they are skilled workers, which is why they all have certificates,' he explained. Manogaran said 16 stone sculptures were recently brought in from India. 'The shipping expenses amounted to nearly RM22,000 for transporting these statues from there to here,' he said. He added 63 statues were already built in the temple by the specialist workers. On July 3-7, there will be a final prayer session involving some 30 priests, including six from India. 'For this final prayer session, we estimate to spend almost RM150,000 for expenses such as airfares, accommodation, and other related expenses. That's the reason we require further assistance from Unifor or other organisations. 'This will be followed by the 48-day prayers; each day will cost around RM2,000 totalling RM96,000, which is separate from the expenses of the final prayer,' Manogaran said. The current temple building is seen framed by the new archway. – Photo by Peter Boon The current double-storey building accommodating the temple will be repurposed. 'We need to use the top floor as a hall and the ground floor will be for the priest's accommodation and related purposes. So, for now, we don't have any plan yet to knock it down. 'Moreover, the building is of significant historical and cultural importance, having been constructed in 1971,' he added. Jalan Orchid lead Manogaran Krishnasamy Sri Maha Mariamman Temple

328 million e-invoices processed by LHDN so far
Published on: Thursday, June 12, 2025 Published on: Thu, Jun 12, 2025 By: Predeep Nambiar, FMT Text Size: LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said some smaller taxpayers have joined the e-invoicing system voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates. GEORGE TOWN: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has validated more than 328 million e-invoices since the country began its move towards a digital tax system last year. LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said the numbers came from about 35,000 taxpayers who submitted their records through the new system. Advertisement 'These are from users in Phases 1 and 2. Some smaller taxpayers have also joined voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates,' she said, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event by CTOS in Bayan Lepas today. LHDN is phasing in e-invoicing by company size, with Phase 1, which started on Aug 1 last year, covering large businesses with annual sales of over RM100 million. Phase 2, which started on Jan 1, covers companies with sales of between RM25 million and RM100 million. Phase 3 (RM5 million-RM25 million turnover) starts on July 1 and Phase 4 (RM1 million-RM5 million) on Jan 1, 2026. The smallest firms (below RM1 million) will come on board by July 1, 2026. The e-invoicing system, part of the government's plan to improve tax compliance and reduce fraud, is meant to help LHDN keep a better record of business deals and make it easier for taxpayers to fill in their tax forms. E-invoices, which let businesses report sales immediately or on a monthly basis, are sent in real time or in monthly groups. The system can also handle self-billed e-invoices, such as for transactions with foreign suppliers or people who do not run businesses. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
