Formula E race case: ACB again summons IAS officer Arvind Kumar
Hyderabad: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Telangana has once again summoned senior IAS officer and Special Chief Secretary Arvind Kumar for questioning in Formula E race case. The agency, which is probing the allegations of unauthorised misuse of government funds, has directed him to appear on Thursday. Arvind Kumar was served notice two days after he returned from a month-long leave. He was summoned a few days after Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former minister K. T. Rama Rao were questioned by the ACB for the second time. This is the second time Arvind Kumar will face questioning by the ACB in this case. He had earlier appeared before the anti-graft agency in January. He had reportedly informed investigating officials that he transferred funds based on instructions from higher authorities. The ACB on June 16 questioned K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) for nearly eight hours. The former minister had appeared before the ACB on January 9 in the case relating to the conduct of the Formula E race in Hyderabad in January 2023, when BRS was in power. The ACB in December last year booked a case against KTR, former Special Chief Secretary to Government, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) department, Arvind Kumar and former Chief Engineer of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) B.L.N. Reddy for alleged Rs 54.88 crore irregularities in the Formula-E deal. The FIR was registered on a complaint by the Principal Secretary to the Government, MA&UD department, M. Dana Kishore, who stated that foreign remittances were made without prior approvals of the relevant regulatory authorities, which resulted in an additional tax burden to HMDA to the tune of Rs. 8.06 crore. The complainant also alleged that the payment was made while the Model Code of Conduct was in effect for the elections to the State Legislative Assembly without any prior approval of the Election Commission of India. The FIR was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act as well as under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 120B (criminal conspiracy). After appearing before ACB for the second time on June 16, KTR stated that he was not scared of arrest. He said the ACB officials kept repeating a question and asked them to show him corruption in the case. Claiming that the Formula-E race boosted the image of Telangana, he alleged that the actions of the Revanth Reddy government were maligning the state.

Mumbai man arrested after 12-year-old neighbour records video as he makes obscene gestures at her
A 12-year-old girl in Mumbai got her 65-year-old neighbour arrested on Tuesday for sexually harassing her by making obscene gestures which the girl recorded and submitted to the police. Officers said the accused had retired after working at the post office. According to the police complaint filed by the girl's mother, the accused lived on the same floor of their residential building in Mumbai. As per the First Information Report (FIR), the incident took place in May. The minor was standing in the building's common passage area on the second floor when the accused made obscene gestures at her. It was also alleged that accused once touched her legs in an inappropriate manner while she was attending tuition classes at a neighbour's place. The girl informed her mother about the incident but was not taken seriously, prompting her to record a video of the accused as he made obscene gestures at her. Shocked to see the video, the mother showed the clip to her husband, and the two approached the N M Joshi Marg police station along with the girl, said a police source. The police acted swiftly and registered a case under sections 74 and 79 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act against the accused. Maharashtra BJP leader Prasad Lad claims Rs 3.20 crore from his MLC fund transferred using fake letterhead
Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde on Wednesday directed the state administration to take immediate steps to stop the growing cases of illegal transfers of MLC funds by using fake signatures and letterheads of legislators after BJP MLC Prasad Lad raised the issue. In the Council, Lad raised a point of information regarding the transfer of Rs 3.20 crore from his MLC fund without his consent, allegedly in an illegal manner. 'I received a call from the Ratnagiri collector's house about a letter from the Beed district on my letterhead with a list of 36 works for which Rs 3.20 crore from the legislator fund has been transferred. But I had never signed the letter, nor had my letterhead been given to anyone,' Lad told the Council. 'The police have identified the perpetrators in this case. There should be a thorough probe irrespective of the party affiliation of the accused,' demanded Lad. He said even his voice was used through AI on the telephone, and he sought urgent intervention from the state government to stop such fund theft. Legislators from all parties said that they have all faced such attempts, and those are increasing every passing day. 'Even I faced such an attempt when I was the minister. Other legislators like Uma Khapre, Niranjan Davkhare, too, have faced this,' said Chairman Shinde. He added that he immediately filed a police complaint, and the transfer of money was stopped. Shinde directed that the state government should take immediate steps to prevent such theft of funds. 'We have directed the state government. We are hopeful that necessary steps will be taken,' said Shinde. 'There has to be some policy decision on this issue. Technical sides need to be fixed and the state government must take strong action,' added Shinde.
