Kota Kinabalu: A 40-year-old was tentatively charged at the Magistrate's Court here with trafficking 57.82gm of syabu. No plea was recorded from Ag Rizwan Lasikan when the charge was read before Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin. Rizwan is accused of committing the offence at 2.50pm on July 12 by the roadside of Puri Warisan, Inanam. The charge, framed under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, carries the mandatory death penalty or life imprisonment, along with a minimum of 15 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. The court set Sept 18 for mention, pending the chemist's report. Rizwan was ordered to remain in custody as the offence is non-bailable. In another case, a 48-year-old man was jailed six weeks and fined RM100 or one week's jail for failing to provide a reasonable explanation for having a stolen laptop. Rudy Wong pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus to being found in possession of a laptop, for which he failed to provide a satisfactory explanation of how he obtained it, at 3.15pm on July 18 at the car park of Block A, Lido Four Seasons, Jalan Lintas Kepayan. Wong was charged under Section 22A(1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance (Chapter 80) of Sabah. The court heard from the prosecution that the complainant discovered her home had been broken into on July 12, with her belongings, including a laptop, missing. Wong was arrested on July 18 at the car park of Block A of the residency for the offence. Unrepresented, Wong pleaded for leniency and apologised to the court, saying he had an ageing mother to care for. The prosecution, however, urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence and also informed that the estimated loss suffered by the complainant was RM1,000. Woman threatened by Ah Long after debt-ridden husband disappears

The 29-year-old administrative executive who wanted to be known as Choo, said her 26-year-old husband was sent to Hong Kong by his company on June 18 and was supposed to return on July 16. However, he has been missing since and has not contacted his family. "He didn't tell me about the business trip, only my father-in-law. I only found out about his return date through his company," she said at a press conference on Wednesday (30 July), accompanied by MCA public services and complaints department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong. She said that from June 20, her family began receiving threatening calls from loan sharks, claiming her husband had borrowed RM2,000 and now owed them RM8,000 with interest. The callers threatened to splash red paint on their house and set it on fire. "We've been married for over a year and have a 15-month-old daughter. Despite asking him many times, he never told us why he needed to borrow money," she said. She added that the loan sharks also shared personal details and photos of her and her family on social media. A police report has been lodged. She added that earlier this year, her family had helped her husband settle a RM100,000 debt. Meanwhile, a 48-year-old woman from Cheras is also seeking help after her family was harassed over her son's borrowings from loan sharks. The woman known as Wong, a labourer, said her 26-year-old son, a salesman, had taken out loans in the past, which the family had helped to pay off, namely RM5,000 in 2019 and RM22,500 in April 2025. She said Chong had assisted in negotiating both settlements. After the second incident, the son moved out of the family home. However, in June 2025, the family began receiving threatening messages, including a video of a car on fire. The mother later discovered that her son had borrowed an unknown amount of money from loan sharks again in July 2025.

PETALING JAYA: A 14-year-old boy pleaded guilty in the Kajang magistrates' court today to injuring a male teacher, in an incident that went viral on social media. The teenager entered the plea before magistrate Fatin Dayana Jalil, Harian Metro reported. According to the charge, the Form One transition class student voluntarily caused hurt to the 29-year-old teacher at 4.48pm on Monday. Deputy public prosecutor Syafiq Zulbahrin led the prosecution, while the boy was represented by lawyer S Priyalatha. The report said media personnel were not allowed into the courtroom as the accused is a juvenile. The boy's parents were seen attending the proceedings. His mother, who is in her 40s, told reporters he was her only child and that he lived with her following her separation from his father. She also said her son regretted punching the teacher and had apologised to him. Earlier, the prosecution had proposed bail at RM5,000 with one surety, citing the seriousness of the case and the public attention it had received. The defence requested a lower amount, noting that the boy was a school-going juvenile offender.
