'Emilia Pérez' Star Karla Sofía Gascón Wins Best Song Prize at Critics Choice Awards amid Controversy

Yahoo08-02-2025

Karla Sofía Gascón was among the winners recognized in the best song category at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards amid her recent backlash.
Gascón, Zoe Saldaña and Camille won for the song "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez on Friday, Feb. 7.
The track beat out five other songs for the prize: 'Beautiful That Way' by Miley Cyrus (The Last Showgirl), "Compress/Repress" by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Challengers), 'Harper and Will Go West' by Kristen Wiig (Will & Harper), "Kiss the Sky" by Maren Morris (The Wild Robot), and "Mi Camino" by Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez).
Gascon, who did not attend the event, was also nominated at the Critics Choice Awards for best actress, though that win went to Demi Moore for The Substance.
The best song win comes after Gascón, 52, apologized for the controversies surrounding her offensive resurfaced social media posts, which have since been deleted as she also deactivated her X account.
In a message on Instagram this week, the Oscar-nominated actress wrote that she 'sincerely" apologizes to "everyone who has been hurt along the way' in a message on her Instagram, vowing to be silent and 'let the work talk for itself.'

Her post was in response to Emilia Pérez director Jacques Audiard's interview with Deadline, in which he called Gascón's resurfaced posts 'inexcusable' and said he hadn't spoken to her.
'She is in a self-destructive approach that I can't interfere in, and I really don't understand why she's continuing,' said the French filmmaker, 72, adding that she is 'harming people who were very close to her,' including the Emilia Pérez cast and crew. 'I'm not getting in touch with her because right now she needs space to reflect and take accountability for her actions.'
Composer Clément Ducol and singer-songwriter Camille teamed up to write the songs in Emilia Pérez, a musical thriller sung largely in Spanish despite the fact that both artists are French. The duo co-wrote 'El Mal,' Saldaña's indictment of corrupt members of society, with Audiard.

Ducol and Camille won the Golden Globe for the track in January, and they made sure to give a shoutout to stars Saldaña and Gascón at the time. "'El Mal' wouldn't be what it is without your performance," Camille told the pair. "You just should shake the house, and shake our souls. Salud."

Woman strategically keeps track of dating app matches for this one reason: ‘I lowkey need this'

In today's wild digital dating world — sitting back and endlessly swiping will only get you so far. That's why Caitlin Trask, 32, decided to go the extra mile by creating a 'man catalog' to track all the hopeful men she matches with on dating apps — for research. 'Sorry I can't go out tonight, I have 513 men I have to document in my man catalog,' the hopeless romantic is heard saying in a TikTok video she posted, teasing her method. Trask is strategic with her dating tactics. Although she lives in Denver, Colorado, she purposely changes her location on the apps to various cities to see which loverboys she will match with. Once she receives that anticipated notification — she goes into her Excel spreadsheet to add her connection's age, height, city they live in, job, religion and political stance. While this sounds like a crazy amount of work that some people would roll their eyes at — Trask told People her reasoning for organizing these potential suitors is to see which city has the highest chances of her finding someone she is compatible with. 'Most guys that I am finding are my usual type, which means they have curly hair, good smiles and interesting prompts in their profile,' she told the outlet. 'Someone who it seems like I could have a fun conversation with is what I'm generally finding.' Clearly, she's a data girl because she told People that she enjoys analyzing her findings to uncover patterns in her dating preferences — like the fact that her type in Boston, Massachusetts, are guys over 6 feet 2 inches. 'The ultimate goal is to visit the places where I find there seem to be the most single men that I'm aligned with, and visit there and see if anything comes of it,' Trask said in the interview. Trask's research struck a chord with many people online. 'Women in stem collecting data,' joked one commenter. 'I kept a dating/romance diary all of last year and it was SOOOO helpful in being able to go back and know why these men were horrible people lol,' someone chimed in, agreeing with Trask's extra efforts. 'I lowkey need this,' quipped someone else. And of course, there were some naysayers. 'We spend way too much time thinking about men. They can't even be bothered to read our profiles. Enough,' read a comment. 'Major red flag on so many levels btw,' another commenter wrote.

Shaquille O'Neal Subtly Endorses Former Warriors Coach for Knicks Job

Shaquille O'Neal Subtly Endorses Former Warriors Coach for Knicks Job originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Knicks made headlines across the NBA world on Tuesday after news hit that they had decided to fire head coach Tom Thibodeau. Advertisement This decision came following the Knicks' heartbreaking loss to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals and after Thibodeau's five-year reign as head coach. Naturally, the basketball world is already talking about who the Knicks should name as Thibodeau's successor. Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal appears to have made his choice after sharing a strong endorsement video via his Instagram stories not long after the Thibodeau news broke. O'Neal did not caption his post, but it seems clear that the four-time NBA champ wants to see former Golden State Warriors shot-caller Mark Jackson take the helm in New York. O'Neal shared a video strongly advocating Jackson as Thibodeau's successor for the Knicks. The clip highlights Jackson's achievements for the Warriors, where he served as head coach for three seasons between 2011 and 2014. Advertisement Jackson may not have won a championship with Golden State, but the former All-Star point guard is widely credited for playing a pivotal role in laying the foundations of the Stephen Curry-led Warriors dynasty. He won Rookie of the Year in his first season with the Knicks and was named an All-Star in his sophomore campaign. Jackson suited up for New York for five years at the start of his career, and another couple of seasons toward the tail end of his NBA tenure. A return to the Knicks as a head coach would be a full-circle moment of sorts for the 60-year-old. Tim McGraw's Daughter Confirms She's Queer to Celebrate Pride Month

Tim McGraw's Daughter Confirms She's Queer to Celebrate Pride Month originally appeared on Parade. June is Pride Month, and tons of gay celebrities and straight allies are showing their support for the LGBTQA+ community on social media. Amongst them is and oldest daughter, Gracie, 28. She recently re-posted to her Instagram stories a post from Adam Eli that reads, "EVERYONE GET MORE GAY NOW!" and underneath she wrote, "Happy freaking Pride. I love being queer." She also reposted a post from drag queen Marti Gould Cummings that reads, "Pride began as a riot led by Black and Brown trans activists." In the caption, Cummings wrote, "HAPPY PRIDE! Protect trans people - Pride was and is a riot and protest against the patriarchal norms that hold us back!" We aren't sure that Gracie McGraw has ever publicly stated that she is queer — we can't find anything that says she parents have always stayed pretty quiet with anything politically charged, but they clearly support their daughters in all endeavors. Gracie recently debuted at Carnegie Hall for her performances of The Great War & The Great Gatsby, which will air on PBS for Veteran's Day. Her parents were right there cheering her on for her premiere on one of the world's most renowned stages. For Gracie's 28th birthday on May 5, McGraw posted a throwback photo of them together from when Gracie was little and wrote, "Can't believe this little bit turns 28 today! Happy birthday to our Gracie! You are a light in this world my sweet girl. So much heart, soul, respect and yes LOADS of talent!!! We hope you have the best day ever and know that you are loved beyond measure! I love you, my little girl." And the McGraw patriarch posted a photo to Instagram in September 2024 to celebrate wife Faith's birthday and wrote, "Happy birthday to this remarkable woman! My beautiful, strong, crazy, badass wife!!!! I love my girl with everything that I am and could ever hope to be! She is our beacon, our rock, our strength. The girls and I are so very blessed! Our girls could not have a better role model in their lives as how to be an incredibly strong woman. And how to believe in themselves and be in charge of their lives (every aspect of their lives)! Let's honor the women in our lives with respect and make sure that we fight for their rights right alongside them!" Notably, Hill was also one of the handful of country artists who supported singer Chely Wright when she publicly came out in 2010. In addition to Gracie, McGraw and Hill are parents to Maggie, 26, and Audrey, 23, who just recently released her first album and is going on tour this summer with Brandi Carlile. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Tim McGraw's Daughter Confirms She's Queer to Celebrate Pride Month first appeared on Parade on Jun 3, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Jun 3, 2025, where it first appeared.
