AP to launch country's largest green skilling mission
Lokesh's address will be a highlight of the high-powered gathering, which will also feature energy minister Gottipati Ravi Kumar, senior government officials, over 250 industry leaders, and key development partners. The event, jointly organised by the Swaniti Initiative and Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC), marks the official launch of the state's green skilling programme.
The initiative aims to train thousands of youth across the state in all aspects of solar and wind energy — from manufacturing and installation to operations and maintenance — positioning Andhra Pradesh as a national hub for clean energy talent.
Lokesh is expected to highlight, reflecting Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu's vision of a skills-first, innovation-driven economy.
A senior official described the programme as more than just a skilling drive. 'This isn't just a skilling event; it's a mission to empower Andhra Pradesh's youth to lead India's green revolution,' he noted.
Three high-impact panel discussions will feature industry giants and policy makers working together to shape a demand-driven, industry-aligned workforce. The event will also see the launch of a private sector green skilling taskforce to further align the state's training ecosystem with national and international clean energy markets.
Ensuring inclusivity, the initiative will focus on integrating tribal youth, women-led self-help groups (SHGs), and green micro-entrepreneurs, making equity a central theme of the green transition.
The deliberations and outcomes of the event will shape the upcoming Green Skill Development Roadmap for Andhra Pradesh, which aims to modernise training infrastructure and scale up skilling programmes across all districts — setting a national benchmark in sustainable, livelihood-driven development.

APSSDC to host Job Mela tomorrow
GUNTUR: The Andhra Pradesh State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) will conduct a Mega Job Mela on August 12 at Sadineni Chowdaraiah College, Kotappakonda Road, Maddirala, Chilakaluripet. The recruitment drive will run from 9 am to 4 pm and is open to unemployed youth from the region. Lokesh vows support to weavers
Mangalagiri: Underscoring the government's commitment to uplift traditional artisans, minister for education, IT, and electronics Nara Lokesh said the state is actively working to enhance the livelihoods of weavers, with a clear goal of doubling their income in the coming years. Speaking at the 11th National Handloom Day celebrations held at the Weaver's Hall in Autonagar, Mangalagiri, Lokesh pointed to a slew of initiatives taken to support the handloom community — ranging from the distribution of 873 spinning wheels during his time in opposition to collaborations with companies like Tata Tanera that have already helped increase weavers' earnings by 30 per cent. He also recalled the support extended to weavers during the Covid-19 pandemic, including access to medicines and oxygen cylinders. Addressing the gathering with the spirited slogan 'Jai Chenetha', Lokesh hailed the skill and dedication of weavers, referring to them as 'handloom artists' who bring designs to life from dyed thread to finished fabric. He emphasised the government's ongoing commitment to strengthening their welfare through infrastructure, innovation, and institutional partnerships. The minister also pointed to support extended to other artisanal communities, citing the Lakshmi Narasimha Swarnakara Welfare Association's initiatives to provide goldsmiths with health insurance and financial assistance. Lokesh announced the appointment of key Padmashali leaders from Mangalagiri to significant positions, Nandam Abaddiah as Chairman of the Padmashali Corporation, T Janaki Devi to the TTD Board, and Chillapalli Srinivas Rao as chairman of APSMIDC. Calling for a greater recognition of the community's history, Lokesh urged Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to declare the birth anniversary of renowned weavers' leader Pragada Kotaiah as an official government celebration. He further announced that a park being developed over six acres in Tidco Housing would be named after Kotaiah and feature his statue. Lokesh, who won from Mangalagiri with a massive margin of 91,413 votes in the 2024 elections, credited this mandate for the emergence of a 'triple engine' governance model—Prime Minister Modi at the Centre, Chandrababu Naidu in the state, and himself serving locally. As a symbolic tribute to the state's rich textile heritage, Lokesh presented Chief Minister Naidu with a map of Andhra Pradesh crafted using silk and cotton threads from various weaving hubs across the state. The event was also attended by BC welfare, handlooms and textiles minister S Savitha, handlooms and handicrafts honorary advisor Suchitra Ella, MLC chief whip Panchumarthi Anuradha, TTD member T Janaki Devi, and other dignitaries.

Chandrababu pledges to double weavers' income
Vijayawada: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday asserted that the coalition government's primary objective was to double the income of handloom artisans in Andhra Pradesh. He was speaking at the 11th National Handloom Day celebrations here. The Chief Minister declared that financial aid of Rs 25,000 per year would be given to each weaver family under the 'Nethanna Bharosa' scheme. He later visited the Weavershala, which was established with the support of Minister for Education and IT Nara Lokesh, and interacted with artisans, who showed him their products. Reaffirming that the coalition government had been fulfilling its election promises, including those made to the handloom community, he confirmed that, starting this month, 200 units of electricity will be provided free for handlooms and 500 units for power looms. This initiative will benefit 93,000 handloom-owning families and 50,000 power loom-owning families, while costing the government an additional Rs 190 crore annually. He pointed out that the TDP government was the first to introduce a pension for weavers at age 50. Chandrababu Naidu announced that the government would reimburse the 5 per cent GST on handloom products -- a move that will cost the state Rs 15 crore per year. A Thrift Fund of Rs 5 crore will also be established to benefit 5,386 handloom artisans. In a move to preserve the industry's heritage, a Handloom Museum will be set up in Amaravati. The government will also officially celebrate the birth anniversary of handloom weavers' leader Pragada Kotaiah as a state event and install a bronze statue in his honor at a Handloom circle near the NRI Hospital on the Vijayawada-Guntur highway, he said.
