Katy Perry helps couple get engaged at New York concert: See the sweet moment

USA Todaya day ago
All the love is on display at Katy Perry's Lifetimes Tour.
A couple, Jason Ve and Arthur Woods, got engaged in front of thousands of cheering fans during the pop star's latest show at New York's Madison Square Garden on Monday, Aug. 11.
Perry brought fans from the audience onto the stage to help her sing "The One That Got Away," but Ve had other plans first: He asked Perry if his boyfriend of 11 years could join them, and Ve and Perry sang snippets of her songs "Unconditionally," "Teenage Dream" and "Lifetimes" as Woods made his way to the stage. The couple, both clad in leopard print ensembles, then shared the special moment in front of the crowd of thousands.
Perry helped the pair through the sweet moment and held a microphone as Ve got down on one knee and popped the question on stage. "Will you spend the rest of eternity with me?" he asked before pulling out the ring. The crowd went wild as Woods accepted the proposal, and the two kissed.
Perry, who looked shocked and emotional, quickly went in for a hug and took a photo with them.
The "Firework" singer performed at Madison Square Garden as part of her ongoing concert tour that came to the United States in May. The Lifetimes Tour has also taken Perry to Philadelphia and Boston in recent days, and she will next head to Newark, New Jersey, for an Aug. 14 show.
Say what you want about Katy Perry, her Lifetimes tour is great
In a review of Perry's Aug. 9 concert at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, USA TODAY national music writer Melissa Ruggieri described the concert as a "fun, vibrant show, filled with flying apparatus, dancers, oversized flowers, sleek video panels, an AI Perry and plenty of her goofy charm that borders on silly."
Perry is touring in support of her album "143," which earned largely negative reviews in 2024 and drew mockery of its poorly received single "Woman's World." In July, the "American Idol" judge confirmed she had split from her partner Orlando Bloom after a six-year engagement. The former couple share 4-year-old daughter Daisy Dove.

"Due to the abundance of recent interest and conversation surrounding Orlando Bloom and Katy Perry's relationship, representatives have confirmed that Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting," a statement from their representatives confirmed on July 3. "They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is — and always will be — raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect."

Morton's offering $2 filet mignon sandwiches. How to get one.

The filet mignon is a special cut of meat, so it makes sense there's a National Filet Mignon Day, celebrated Wednesday, Aug. 13. If you've got the hunger for a filet, there's a few deals out there to mark the occasion. But why is the filet mignon – the name is French for a "dainty" slice of meat – special? "What sets the filet apart, primarily, is its texture. The muscle fibers are fine and densely packed, resulting in a steak cut that practically melts in your mouth," according to the website of the Carversteak restaurant, located in Resorts World Las Vegas. The tenderloin "is a narrow, elongated muscle located along the spine, and because it is not heavily worked during the animal's life, it remains exceptionally tender," according to the site. Here's where to get some deals on the special meat. Morton's The Steakhouse's National Filet Mignon Day deal Morton's The Steakhouse, which has more than 65 locations worldwide, has a special on Aug. 13 on $2 filet sandwiches from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The sandwiches can be ordered in the bar area (maximum order of eight per person; Saratoga Springs, New York, and international locations excluded). Jimmy Kimmel says he obtained citizenship in Italy amid Trump presidency

Jimmy Kimmel said he obtained Italian citizenship in a move seemingly motivated by the United States' current political climate under President Donald Trump. The late-night host revealed the news during an appearance on comedian Sarah Silverman's podcast, "The Sarah Silverman Podcast," on Aug. 7. "A lot of people I know are thinking about where they can get citizenship," Silverman said. Kimmel replied, "I did get Italian citizenship." The "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host has long been an adversary of the president's policies. Trump, for his part, has openly criticized Kimmel's career over the years. USA TODAY has reached out to Kimmel's reps for comment. Kimmel says 'what's going on' is 'unbelievable' Kimmel didn't specifically cite Trump's presidency for his new Italian citizenship, but he and Silverman did allude to the current state of American politics. "What's going on is as bad as you thought it was going to be," Kimmel said, to which Silverman replied, "Way worse." "It's so much worse. It's just unbelievable," Kimmel said. "Like I feel like it's probably even worse than he would like it to be." Silverman added, "Every once in a while I'll Google Trump regrets or MAGA regrets." The comedians went on to elaborate on the political climate, with Kimmel mentioning Joe Rogan and other Trump supporters who have questioned the administration's policies. Kimmel is latest comedian to consider overseas move If Kimmel opts to move abroad, he wouldn't be the first comedian to do so amid Trump's presidency. Rosie O'Donnell, who notably has a long-standing feud with the president, moved to Ireland in January as Trump entered office. She said in a TikTok video in March that she is relieved not to be "singled out by the President of the United States." "I feel healthier (and) I'm sleeping better without the stress and anxiety over what was happening politically in the country," O'Donnell said. Similarly, Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia de Rossi also headed across the pond in 2024 and haven't been back to the United States since. "We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, '(Trump) got in,'" DeGeneres said during an event in South West England on July 20. "And we're like, 'We're staying here.'" Melina Khan is a national trending reporter for USA TODAY. She can be reached at
