Farah Khan pokes fun at producer Jackky Bhagnani: ‘Pehle inke pas 10 floors the, ab sirf 5 bache hain'

Hindustan Times14-07-2025
Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan, known for her razor-sharp wit, recently had everyone in splits with a light-hearted jab at actor-producer Jackky Bhagnani's palatial home and the hidden costs of being a film producer. Farah Khan and her cook Dilip visited Rakul Preet Singh and Jackky Bhagnani's home in her latest cooking vlog.
Farah Khan's banter with Jackky Bhagnani
During a candid interaction in her latest cooking vlog, Farah playfully admired Jackky's lavish home and joked with her cook Dilip, 'Humko bhi producer banna hai! (I also want to become a producer)' Reacting to her comment, Jackky quickly corrected her, saying, 'Producer nahi ban na, real estate (Don't become a producer, do real estate).'
Not one to miss a beat, Farah responded with her trademark humour. "Sorry, haan, humko producer nahi ban na hai, hum real estate karna hai, kyunki pehle inke 10 floor the, producer banne ke baad sirf 5 bache hai! (Sorry, yes, we don't have to become a producer but try real estate, because earlier they had 10 floors but after becoming a producer, they only have 5),' Farah said.
Her quip drew laughter from everyone present, including Jackky, his wife-actor Rakul Preet Singh and Farah's cook Dilip.
Later in the vlog, Jackky discussed the underperformance of his latest production, 2024's Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, reflecting on the setbacks and resilience of his father-producer Vashu Bhagnani.
Jackky said that his father used to sell saris on the footpath and has seen many failures, like the 2002 film Om Jai Jagadish, which starred Anil Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, and Fardeen Khan in lead roles. However, he has seen his father starting from scratch many times because, for him, the show must go on.
Aftermath of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan
According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the seven-storey office of Vashu Bhagnani's production house in Mumbai was sold to help clear a mounting debt of ₹250 crore. The move came after the box-office failure of Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, a high-budget action film made at a cost of ₹350 crore. Despite starring big names like Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, the film struggled to draw audiences and managed to collect only ₹111.5 crore worldwide, falling far short of expectations.

Getting d(r)ubbed: Recent southern films fall out of favour in Hindi-speaking belt, struggle for a hit

Dubbed versions of southern films, especially Tamil and Telugu movies, appear to be losing their fizz in the Hindi-speaking belt. Recent titles including Kamal Haasan-starrer Thug Life (Tamil) and Game Changer (Telugu) have performed below par, raking in less than a 10th of earlier blockbusters from the south. With the exception of Pushpa 2 and Kalki 2898 AD, there haven't been any major dubbed hits in the past year. Experts said there is unnecessary hype over the dubbing trend and too many films have jumped on to the bandwagon without adequate content or marketing efforts. The Hindi version of Mani Ratnam's Thug Life, released in June, made ₹1.56 crore. Kannappa, a Telugu-language Hindu epic starring Vishnu Manchu in the title role and an ensemble cast of Mohanlal, Prabhas and Akshay Kumar earned Rs. 2.75 crore, according to data from Bollywood Hungama, a trade website. L2: Empuraan, starring Mohanlal and released in March, made ₹2.22 crore in the Hindi belt. Game Changer, with Ram Charan in the lead, did better than the others, clocking in ₹26.6 crore after its release in January. However, all these earnings pale in comparison to dubbed southern hits such as Pushpa 2: The Rule ( ₹830 crore), KGF: Chapter 2 ( ₹434.7 crore), RRR (274.3 crore) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion ( ₹511 crore). 'The trend (of dubbed versions of southern films breaking out in the Hindi belt) has died down a little bit," admitted Rahul Puri, managing director of Mukta Arts and Mukta A2 Cinemas. While a few films managed to click with Hindi-speaking audiences, Puri said they were followed by several others that wanted to cash in on the hype but didn't do well even in their home markets. Half-hearted dubs Independent trade analyst Sreedhar Pillai said not all names from the south command equal draw in the Hindi belt. Only the likes of filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who first broke out with the Baahubali franchise and then followed it up with RRR, are known – even in tier-two and three north Indian towns – and people flock to the cinemas for their movies. 'If you look at films like Pushpa, the characters appeared real and relatable across the board. In the case of a lot of recent Tamil or Telugu films, the tone and style were entirely south Indian, and it didn't appear to be anything other than a simple dub," Pillai pointed out. Experts said the recent dubbed southern films have been half-hearted attempts to reach out to Hindi-speaking audiences. On the other hand, Kantara (2022), originally filmed in Kannada, had the right flavour, writing and marketing strategy to make it seem like a universal film and releasing in the Hindi market didn't look like an afterthought. Still, trade experts are hopeful about the prospects of Rajinikanth's Coolie, which also features Aamir Khan, Prabhas' next The Raja Saab, Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1, a prequel to Kantara, and Allu Arjun's untitled film starring Deepika Padukone to be directed by Atlee of Jawan fame. 'Not too many big-ticket films featuring names familiar in the Hindi belt have been released since Pushpa. But it's only a matter of time before one does well," film distributor and exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said.

‘Ghar aisa lag raha hai hum log Punjab mein aa gaye hain': Inside ‘Gangotri,' Sonu Sood's new bungalow

When Farah Khan visited Sonu Sood's brand-new Mumbai bungalow for her vlog, it felt more like catching up with an old friend. 'Aaj main mere bohot khaas friend ke ghar aayi hoon. Aap log ne filmon mein heroes to dekhe honge lekin yeh asli life mein hero hai,' Farah said as she entered the actor's home, setting the tone for a playful walkthrough of Sood's life off-camera. Named 'Gangotri,' Sonu's sprawling residence in Mumbai, reportedly worth ₹20 crore according to Jugyah, mirrors his grounded personality despite his star status. With a touch of Punjab in the décor and vibe, Farah couldn't help but exclaim, 'Sonu ji ka ghar aisa lag raha hai hum log Punjab mein aa gaye hain.' The house opens with a grand entrance featuring a Buddha statue and a cosy outdoor seating space, surrounded by lush greenery. The name 'Gangotri' stands tall at the gate, both in English and Hindi, marking its identity. The interiors boast a pristine white-and-beige palette, from the sofa set in the living area to the stylish dining space that leads up a gorgeous white staircase. Farah quipped about Sonu's calm composure and his Punjab-inspired hospitality as they toured the outdoor seating. The tour also offered a glimpse into Sonu's personal spaces. His elder son Ishant's room, showcasing a self-made car canvas, stands out with its grey-themed décor and private exit. His younger son Ahaan's room brings in vibrant anime art and a splash of yellow furniture, highlighting the playful side of the household. The first floor features a sleek media room with white sofas and a massive TV, a space Sonu uses for meetings. But the showstopper? A unique thread art portrait gifted by a fan, something Sonu proudly showcased to Farah. And of course, there's the shared sneaker room. Sonu and his sons, all sharing the same shoe size, built this sneaker haven together. Outside, a serene balcony surrounded by trees, including a mango tree, completes the homely yet luxurious vibe. Farah summed it up best when she said, 'Wow, just a nice house, looks like Om Shanti Om set,' to which Sonu replied, 'Yes, it's inspired by that only.'
