Jets and Giants can only hope to recreate the drought-ending magic of 1981
Here is what I wish for you, dear reader, no matter which side of the football divide you may hang your hat. I wish for you a return trip to the fall and early winter of 1981. 'Chariots of Fire' was the big picture in theaters. 'Celebration,' the perennially ubiquitous Kool & the Gang song, was on endless loop on the radio. 'Dallas,' of course, was the No. 1 TV show. And New York football emerged from protracted hibernation. Advertisement How bad was it then? Put it this way: The Giants played the Bears in the NFL title game on Dec. 29, 1963 — barely a month after the JFK assassination. That would be the last time they made the playoffs in the LBJ administration, and they would take a full pass on the Nixon, Ford and Carter administrations. Eighteen years and 17 seasons passed without a single playoff appearance. How bad was it? Put it this way: The Jets played their last game as defending champions of the NFL with 11 days left in the 1960s. They lost that day to the Chiefs in a wind-swept Shea Stadium in an AFL playoff game, then took a full pass on the entirety of the '70s without again making postseason.

All the Easter Eggs Taylor Swift Dropped About Doing the Super Bowl Halftime Show
THE RUNDOWN Fans have been clamoring for Taylor Swift to perform at the Super Bowl for ages, but rumors 2026 might finally be the year started swirling after the Eras Tour star appeared on boyfriend Travis Kelce's New Heights podcast this week. Swifties know that the singer loves to hide 'Easter eggs' hinting at her next move in all sorts of places—in her music videos, on her website, during live performances, and now, perhaps, when talking to Travis and his brother, Jason Kelce. To begin with, Swift openly referred to the Super Bowl Halftime Show, saying she has watched every single one, which means the topic is on her mind. But the other hints were not quite so obvious. A big one is that Swift joked that she thinks about sourdough '60% of the time.' The San Francisco 49ers are hosting the 60th Super Bowl at Levi's Stadium in 2026, and who is their mascot? Sourdough Sam. Both the number and mention of bread types was a big flag to Swift's fans. Speaking of numbers, Swift mentioned the number 47 during the episode, specifically thanking Jason for his intro and screaming for '47 seconds.' Levi's Stadium was Swift's 47th stop on her Eras Tour, leading some listeners to think she would be returning soon. And Swift has talked about 13 being her favorite number in the past, four plus seven is 13, and 2026 will be Travis's 13th NFL season. It all adds up! Finally, Swift has said before that she would not perform a halftime show at the Super Bowl before she owned or rerecorded all of her masters. The star finally bought the original masters back this year after rerecording several of her iconic albums already. And her newest album, The Life of a Showgirl, is coming out in October, making a February Super Bowl show a perfect moment of public triumph.

A Taylor Swift Super Bowl halftime show is gaining steam. In the days since the pop star joined boyfriend Travis Kelce's 'New Heights' podcast, the rumor mill has churned about a potential on-stage appearance at Levi's Stadium during the Big Game. And prediction markets have followed. Since Swift's podcast appearance, her odds of being the headline performer at Super Bowl 2026 have skyrocketed. 4 Taylor Swift performing on the Eras Tour. AP As recently as last Monday, Swift's chances to get the nod were just 6 percent at Kalshi, which was well behind Post Malone (19 percent) and Metallica (13 percent). Kalshi is a CFTC-licensed derivative market that allows betting on real-life events. Now, with her fans speculating that the 14-time Grammy award winner hinted toward a potential Super Bowl halftime appearance during her conversation with Kelce and his older brother, ex-Eagles star Jason Kelce, Swift is suddenly a massive favorite to get behind the mic in Santa Clara. 4 Kalshi is giving Taylor Swift a 59 percent chance to be the Super Bowl 60 halftime performer as of 12 p.m. ET on Saturday. Kalshi On Saturday afternoon, Kalshi is giving Swift a 59 percent chance to be the next halftime performer, with more than $272,000 wagered. On Friday night, she reached as high as 65 percent. Some of the so-called hints on the podcast seem far-fetched, but the Swifties are apparently convinced by how quickly Kalshi's odds shifted. Swift discussed her love of sourdough bread on the show with Kelce. The 49ers' mascot? Sourdough Sam. 4 Travis Kelce celebrated the Chiefs' Super Bowl berth with Taylor Swift in January 2024. Getty Images She also mentioned that she's thinking about sourdough bread '60 percent of the time,' which her fans claim was a nod to Super Bowl 60. After Jason Swift a long introduction, the singer thanked him 'for screaming for like 47 seconds for me.' Betting on the NFL? Levi's Stadium just so happened to be her 47th stop on her 'Eras' tour. Whether she was dropping Easter eggs — or, perhaps, bread crumbs — or not, it appears a Swiftie halftime show is as real a possibility as ever. 4 Travis Kelce kissing the Lombardi Trophy.
