Ramat David Airbase hit: Houthis escalate attacks on Israel
Shafaq News/ On Friday, Yemen's Ansarallah (Houthis) movement launched a hypersonic ballistic missile at Israel's Ramat David Airbase, located east of Haifa.
In a statement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree announced that the missile, identified as a 'Palestine-2' hypersonic ballistic missile, reached its target successfully after Israeli air defense systems failed to intercept it.
Air raid sirens were activated across Haifa and the Galilee region early Friday. Explosions were reported in multiple areas, following what appeared to be interception attempts. Israel's Army Radio confirmed a ballistic missile had been launched from Yemen toward northern Israel.

This week, the Houthis also reported carrying out a coordinated drone attack on military and strategic sites in the Israeli-occupied city of Jaffa, deploying three drones of the 'Yafa' type. A separate drone targeted a key facility in the Ashkelon area.
On Thursday, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, in a televised address, pledged to continue strikes inside Israeli territory and described maritime operations as having created a near-complete blockade of Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab Strait, Gulf of Aden, and Arabian Sea. He claimed that Israel's maritime activity in those waters had been brought to a standstill.
Since the onset of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis have launched dozens of missile and drone strikes against Israeli targets and vessels in the Red Sea, which they claim are connected to Israel. In response, the United States launched a military campaign on March 15, 2025, aimed at stopping Houthi attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

Watchdog: Iraq elections see rise in divisive rhetoric
Shafaq News/ Sectarian and ethnic rhetoric is escalating ahead of Iraq's 11 November parliamentary elections, the Iraqi Observatory for Human Rights (IOHR) cautioned on Sunday, accusing political factions and media outlets of fueling division instead of promoting meaningful policy debate. In a statement, the IOHR highlighted a surge in identity-based messaging—sectarian, ethnic, and regional—circulating through campaigns and social media. It criticized candidates and their influencers for prioritizing identity politics over qualifications, public service, or reform agendas. Inflammatory language, once limited to the political fringe, now dominates mainstream discourse, according to the IOHR's Asber Center for Information Auditors. 'Social media platforms have become key battlegrounds for this divisive discourse,' the center reported, pointing to orchestrated disinformation campaigns—often run through fake accounts—that target specific communities with misleading, provocative content. The observatory condemned political speeches for amplifying exclusionary rhetoric, particularly against Kurds, minorities, and regional groups, noting that collective trauma and historic grievances are being weaponized to manipulate sentiment and drive identity-based voting. 'New candidates who sidestep programmatic engagement, [are] instead marketing themselves as guardians of 'the component,' 'the region,' or 'a persecuted history,'' the report warned, calling this trend one of the most dangerous developments in Iraq's political environment.

Iraqi PM to Lebanese President: We back Lebanon's sovereignty amid Israeli attacks
Shafaq News/ On Sunday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun in Baghdad, marking his first official visit to Iraq after assuming office. At a joint press conference, al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq's support for Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and stability, pledging to advocate for the country during Iraq's presidency of the Arab League, and rejected the ongoing Israeli violations of Lebanese territory. 'Iraq contributed $20M to the Arab Fund for Lebanon's reconstruction,' he added. Al-Sudani also welcomed the formation of Lebanon's new government as a crucial step toward restoring political order, identifying energy, telecommunications, trade, and private-sector development as 'opportunities that can serve both.' In turn, Aoun expressed appreciation for Iraq's continued assistance, particularly during the recent Israeli war, highlighting joint security challenges, including counterterrorism, as a top priority. Aoun further condemned Israel's ongoing military campaign on Gaza as 'inhumane' and called on the international community to act. 'What is happening in Gaza is unacceptable. The global community must intervene immediately.' Earlier today, the Lebanese president arrived at the Iraqi capital at the invitation of Iraqi President Abdul Latif Rashid. He is scheduled to meet with Rashid to discuss bilateral ties, regional developments, and ways to bolster cooperation between the two countries.

Imam Tom Facchine At Staten Island Islamic Center: The Nation of Israel Must Be Abolished – We Cannot Settle for Anything Less; Allah Will Topple the Zionist Regime Within a Decade
During a May 21, 2025 panel discussion titled The Nakba Never Ended at the Muslim American Society (MAS) Staten Island Center, Imam Tom Facchine of Utica, New York stated that the pro-Palestine movement must unify around the message that Israel must be abolished. He said that advocating for a 'generic freedom' is not enough—the 'nation of Israel must be abolished,' and declared: 'We cannot settle for anything less.' Facchine claimed that Zionists will not stop until they 'change the Quran,' citing EPIC City as an example, and added: 'It's everything or nothing.' He asserted that a maximalist Zionist world is one without Muslims or Palestinians. According to Facchine, Allah has promised Muslims victory if they simply try, and he expressed absolute confidence that within a decade Allah will topple 'the Zionist regime.' The panel was moderated by Abdullah Akl, an activist with Within Our Lifetime and the political director of the Islamic center. Other participants included British activist Sami Hamdi and Abdelrahman Badawy, imam and resident scholar of MAS Staten Island.
