Danny Dyer hailed for 'best performance' in surprise action movie

Daily Record26-04-2025
Fans of Danny Dyer are in for a treat as the English actor is set to appear on ITV's The Assembly tonight. The episode, centred around Dyer, will see him put through his paces as he's questioned by a group of neurodivergent, autistic, and/or learning disabled interviewers. A new trailer for the show has recently been released, confirming the series' air date. The Assembly will feature celebrities like Danny Dyer, David Tennant, Gary Lineker, and Jade Thirlwall being interviewed by the group in an unrestricted format with questions such as "How working class was it to send your son to a private school?" aimed at Dyer, "Does the BBC know you're here?" thrown at Lineker, and generally invasive prompts ranging from "Do you get trapped wind?" to "Do you believe in God?". Danny Dyer's episode will be broadcast on ITV1 at 10:05pm - followed by David Tennant's on April 27 at 10pm - but that's not the only place you can catch the East Londoner. For those wanting more of The Business star, a lesser-known action film featuring the actor can also be streamed on Amazon Prime Video, reports Surrey Live . The 2013 British action-thriller Vendetta sees Dyer playing the role of Special Ops interrogation officer Jimmy Vickers, as he hunts down the gang responsible for the murder of his parents and delivers his own form of vigilante justice on each of the members in the form of creative brutal torture - all while avoiding capture by the police and his old unit. Vendetta made its UK debut in select cinemas in November 2013, swiftly becoming the most acclaimed Danny Dyer feature since Dead Man Running. Despite this, its modest 17 per cent approval rating from an average of 12 critic reviews on Rotten Tomatoes suggests it won't appeal to all tastes. Sadly, critics were not impressed with the role: "Dear me", said one, while another sarcastically comments: "Danny Dyer proves he's a brilliant actor in a heartbreaking work of staggering genius. Just kidding." One particularly searing review stated: "No 12 months at the cinema would be complete without something jaw-droppingly awful starring Danny Dyer." Nevertheless, one reviewer found Vendetta "surprisingly decent". The film also resonated with moviegoers, as evidenced by an audience review praising it as Dyer's finest: "Pleasantly surprised by this one. Danny Dyer gives the best performance I've seen from him, as he leads an action-packed film which includes some interesting deaths. It is also shot well and paces itself nicely." Another viewer commended the film, saying: "Outright action movie. If you're not looking for needless drama, perfect for watching some unadulterated killing. No needless deaths, no droves of bad guys. Felt a bit like Taken, except he had time to do his killing and was creative with every one of them." The film has sparked a divide between critics and fans, with one viewer praising the movie: "If you believe in revenge against scumbags then this is it, brilliant film, loved it. Well done Danny Dyer, just wish this would happen more in real life." Another was equally enthused, sharing their thoughts online: "Wow, what a flick. Great story. Danny Dyer at his best, looks like there may be a 2nd. It's a great story, great cast, and a f*ckin awesome movie 10/10."

Maya Jama 'offered millions for Love Island as Netflix tries to poach her

Love Island host Maya Jama could reportedly secure a lucrative deal for ITV's longtime reality show hit to prevent losing her to rivals like Netflix. The twist-filled, sunny dating show just wrapped up for another year, and the show seems to be on the up and up with some fans hailing it 'the best season ever' and their viewing figures hitting 2.5 million – higher than it has been in years. A large part of this recent success coincides with the 30-year-old host taking over as the presenter in 2023 (after it experienced all-time lows of 1.3m viewers), not only revitalising the format but also gaining 3.2m followers along the way. As such, a source told The Sun's Biz on Sunday column that ITV has paid out to make sure she sticks around. The insider said: 'Maya is a huge hit with fans and the bosses. ITV are desperate not to lose her. They're acutely aware that she's being offered lucrative work with other companies, such as Netflix. She's hugely in demand. 'Maya is proud to be part of Love Island, and bosses want her to continue with the series for the All Stars and summer format. 'It is still early days but bosses are preparing an extremely good package for Maya that she would find hard to turn down.' The package is reportedly set to include a pay cheque of £800,000 to host the main summer series plus another £800k to host the All stars. That's a told of £1.6million. On top of this, she would be paid extra for hosting After Sun. The star clearly still has a lot of love for the show as she took to social media to celebrate Toni and Cach's victory in last week's live final. 'We are one of the few shows to do our finals live and I'm so grateful for the trust because it gives so much room for silliness and iconic moments, you truly never know what will happen and I had so much fun,' she wrote in a heartfelt post. More Trending Outside of her professional life, romance is also blossoming for the TV personality as she firmly put her relationship with Stormzy, and a high-profile break-up, in the past. In June, she was seen on a very lovey-dovey holiday with her boyfriend, Portuguese footballer Ruben Dias whom she was first linked in November. View More » Love Island is available to stream on ITVX. All Stars. ‌ The 46-year-old former footballer is said to be returning to the jungle alongside a number of other former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! contestants from previous years and the ex-Soccer AM host will be hoping to do better than his original stint in 2014, when he was the first campmate to be voted off. ‌ A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Jimmy had a brilliant time in the original series he took part in and it really opened the door to his broadcasting career. ‌ "He was voted off first last time and he felt he had a lot more to give. "Now he's got the chance to get stuck in again, although he's a bit older so he is worried he might find it harder to rough it. "His banter is still on top form though. Producers are hopeful he'll have a bromance with Harry Redknapp, who is also taking part." ‌ As well as Jimmy and 2018 King of the Jungle Harry Redknapp, The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins - who lasted only three days in the jungle when she took part in the 2014 edition of the programme - and 2016's third-placed Adam Thomas are also set to take part. Adam memorably took part in a record 12 Bushtucker Trials during his time in the Australian jungle and returned to present the companion series I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp with Joel Dommett and Emily Atack in 2019. A source told The Sun newspaper of his decision to sign up for All Stars: "This will be a glorious return for Adam as he established himself as a true fan favourite through his series in camp and then on the spin-off show. ‌ "He's stayed in the limelight, too, with Waterloo Road and then on ITV alongside brother Ryan with challenge show 99 To Beat. "It's the perfect time for him to head back into the jungle and affirm his position as Mr Bushtucker Trial." The first legends series aired in 2023 and saw the returns of former campmates Myleene Klass, Helen Flanagan and Jordan Banjo. "We're very excited about bringing back campmates from over the years in a brand-new setting in South Africa."
