The No. 1 Linebacker Takes Major Career Decision This Week
Tyler Atkinson, the No. 1 linebacker in On3's Industry Rankings for the Class of 2026, hasn't revealed his commitment yet, and coaches want to recruit him.

Kirby Smart and his staff will have their first true crack at selling 'Dawg Nation' in person this weekend. Atkinson announced that he will officially visit Athens. He feels a close connection with the program.
'It feels like I grew up at UGA because of all the camps and visits I've been to over the years since I was younger,' he said to Hayes Fawcett of On3.
As a junior at Grayson High, Atkinson exploded for 166 tackles, 32 tackles-for-loss and 13 sacks, a forced fumble and an interception.

Atkinson just made an official visit to Oregon, which was every bit as exceptional as he imagined it would be.

'Oregon was everything I imagined it would be,' Atkinson told On3's Steve Wiltfong after the trip. 'It was just like the coaches had described. Coach Lanning and the entire staff showed me exactly how much they wanted me to be a part of their program and team … The way Oregon embraced and supported my personal brand, 'AtkNup', is next level. They definitely have a plan!'
The Georgia Bulldogs lead On3's predictions with a 34.1% chance of landing him. Based on Atkinson's comments, it could very well become the program he joins.
'It's going to be good to get an OV there and talk to the coaches,' Atkinson said. 'I mean, just learn more and talk to them and go from there.'

'It's just about me going there and just seeing it again and just being around the coaches and just seeing the energy and everything,' Atkinson said. 'Then, what's next is like whatever happens, happens.'

As the PGA Tour heads toward the FedExCup playoffs, Scottie Scheffler stands atop the leaderboard of professional golf. The 29-year-old American has claimed four major championships (two this year) and secured his grip on the World No. 1 ranking for 151 weeks, an era of dominance that few in the sport can rival. But away from the tournament fairways and leaderboards, Scheffler revealed on Wednesday a slice of life that many fans wouldn't expect from the world's top player. Asked when he last paid for a round, Scheffler joked, "It's been a while. I remember the last time I didn't get to pay for a round…one of my buddies in the pro shop had to pay for a round. That was pretty funny." He recounted walking into a local public course about five years ago, asking his friend at the pro shop to ring him up for tee times. The pro said, "Oh no no, you're good," only to turn to Scheffler's friend and say, "Actually, you gotta pay." Scheffler laughed at the memory, noting that they still tease his friend about footing the bill. Scottie Scheffler's Early PGA Career: From Junior Star to Tour Rookie Scheffler's rise began long before he turned pro in 2018. As a youth, he won 90 of 136 junior events on the Northern Texas PGA circuit and captured the 2013 U.S. Junior Amateur title. At the University of Texas, he helped the Longhorns to Big 12 championships and earned Phil Mickelson Freshman of the Year honors in 2015. On the Korn Ferry Tour in 2019, Scheffler's play propelled him to Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Finals points list winner, granting him full PGA Tour status for 2020. He wasted little time making waves as a rookie, finishing fourth on the money list and earning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year. The Scottie Scheffler Breakthrough Year: 2022 and Beyond The 2022 season marked Scheffler's true arrival on golf's biggest stage. In the span of three months, he notched his first PGA Tour victory, ascended to world No. 1, hoisted his first green jacket at the Masters Tournament and won PGA Tour Player of the Year. That breakthrough season included four wins, an astonishing run that made him the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1960 (and only the second ever) to win that many events, including the Masters, in that span of time to begin the season. He backed that up by winning The Players Championship in both 2023 and 2024, becoming the first player to secure back-to-back titles at the sport's "fifth major." At the 2024 Paris Olympics, Scheffler added an individual gold medal to his resume and capped the year by clinching the inaugural FedExCup title at East Lake Golf Club. This season, he's won four events: The CJ Cup Byron Nelson, PGA Championship, Memorial Tournament and Open Championship, joining Tiger Woods as the only two players to win the Open Championship while ranked No. 1 in the world. Inside Georgia football's backup quarterback situation
Georgia Bulldogs fans are very familiar with the importance of having a good backup quarterback. Last season, the Bulldogs won an SEC championship with Gunner Stockton coming in and playing well in the second half against Texas after Carson Beck suffered a serious elbow injury. In 2025, Georgia is expected to start redshirt junior Gunner Stockton. Georgia has almost no experience behind Stockton in the quarterback room. Stockton's projected backup, Ryan Puglisi, is a redshirt freshman, and has never appeared in a game for Georgia. Puglisi is a pocket passer and a former four-star recruit. Georgia coach Kirby Smart likes how Puglisi prepares, but if he has to play for an extended period of time, then that could spell trouble for Georgia. Puglisi has gotten a lot of practice reps this offseason and is expected to see his first game action early in the season against Marshall and/or Austin Peay. However, Puglisi still has a lot to learn. "He prepares really hard," Georgia coach Kirby Smart said on Puglisi. "He studies, he's smart, picks things up. He makes mistakes, we'll say I'll do, and he learns from them. He generally knows when he messed up, he's walking off the field in the scrimmage and didn't change the protection on the play that he knew he should have. "He knew it messed him up, but he knew it right away, which is different than where he was this time last year. He's still trying to figure that out. He makes some really good throws and he's more comfortable in the pocket than he's been. He understands things much better and he has a confidence about it that has helped." Puglisi looked solid in Georgia's G-Day spring game, especially with the first-team offense (three of three for 52 passing yards and a touchdown with the first-team offense). Puglisi has gotten a lot of reps and went 23 of 49 for 224 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception in the spring game. He flashed a bit more mobility than we expected and rushed six times for 24 yards on G-Day. Beyond Puglisi are even larger unknowns. Georgia's third-string quarterback may actually be preferred walk-on Colter Ginn, who is only a redshirt freshman. Additionally, competing for the third-string role are true freshmen Ryan Montgomery (four-star) and Hezekiah Millender (three-star). Montgomery comes in as the No. 14 quarterback recruit in the nation, but he tore his ACL early into his senior year of high school. He lacks experience like the rest of Georgia's quarterback room outside of Gunner Stockton. "Yeah, mentally, he gets it, and he's very into the mental side of it," Smart said on Montgomery. "He throws a very catchable ball, a very accurate passer. A little overwhelmed at times and probably thinking too much in terms of, we give the quarterback a lot, and we give a freshman quarterback a lot, because it's a lot greater than what they're used to. But he's handled that volume well, and he does a good job processing information and taking coaching to the field, which is a good sign for a quarterback." Overall, Georgia's quarterback room lacks experience beyond Gunner Stockton. Georgia's lack of quarterback depth should make the Bulldogs hesitant to have designed runs for Stockton. Frankly we don't feel this team is capable of winning a national championship with a backup quarterback unlike some of the previous Georgia teams. This is not a good year for quarterback depth at Georgia, but Ryan Puglisi could fill in for a starter as a game or two and keep the team afloat. Georgia quarterback depth chart

Rece Davis ranks his preseason top 10 college football teams
ESPN "College GameDay" host Rece Davis is also a voter in the AP Poll. Davis recently ranked the top 25 college football teams in the country on his AP Poll ballot. Davis ranks the Clemson Tigers as his No. 1 team in the country. He was one of four AP Poll voters to rank Clemson No. 1. Additionally, he ranks Penn State No. 2, Texas No. 3, LSU No. 4 and Ohio State No. 5. We'll find out in Week 1 just how good most of Davis' top five teams are. Texas opens the season at Ohio State while LSU opens the season at Clemson. Davis ranks the Georgia Bulldogs as the No. 8 team in the country. He's a bit lower on Georgia than most other college football experts, but it is understandable. Georgia enters the 2025 season with a lot of questions after losing a significant amount of talent to the transfer portal and having 13 players selected in the 2025 NFL draft. Davis still needs to see how Gunner Stockton performs to have more confidence in the Dawgs.
