40 held in Esscom's operation in Tawau, Kalabakan

TAWAU: A total of 40 individuals were arrested during a three-day integrated operation in the Tawau and Kalabakan districts, which concluded last Saturday. The joint operation, led by the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), targeted illegal immigrants, drug-related activities, smuggling, and various other offences. Of those detained, 21 were illegal immigrants from the Philippines and Indonesia. They have since been handed over to the Immigration Department in Tawau for further action under Sections 15(1)(c) and 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63. Esscom Commander DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos said the operation, a collaboration involving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Armed Forces (ATM), Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM), and other federal, state, and local agencies, aimed to restore public order and enforce laws across the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (Esszone). 'Raids were carried out at the old Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Jetty, Road Check Point (RCP) Kalabakan, and several suburban settlements and villages known for illegal activity,' he said in a statement on Monday. The remaining 19 detainees included two suspected drug dealers, who were brought to Tawau District Police Headquarters for urine screening under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Poisons Act 1952. The authorities also seized 125.64 grammes of syabu, 41 bottles of ketum juice (1.5 litres each), and RM950 in cash. Enforcement personnel inspected 146 individuals, 26 premises and three vehicles. Several violations were identified, including illegal electricity connections in settlements, which caused an about RM750,000 in losses to Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB). Action was taken under Section 61(3) of the Electricity Supply Enactment 2024. The operation also saw the issuance of 35 traffic summonses and two vehicle inspection notices under the Road Transport Act 1987 by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and traffic police. Victor said the operation was part of Op Sanggah Esscom, a continuous nationwide effort to bolster existing enforcement by PDRM, ATM and APMM. 'Esscom remains committed to our principle of 'No Day Without Operation' to prevent foreign criminal elements from threatening the peace in Eastern Sabah,' he added. Johor Immigration detains 27 foreign workers
JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Immigration Department detained 27 foreign workers without valid permits in Op Selera at a food premises in Bandar Baru Permas Jaya here on Monday. Johor Immigration director Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus said the integrated operation, involving 25 officers from the department's enforcement division, was conducted as a result of intelligence and public information regarding their activities at the premises. He said the arrests involved eight Indonesian men and eight women, five Myanmar men and six women aged between 18 and 50. "All of them are suspected of committing offences under Section 6(1)(c) and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963 as well as Regulation 11(7)(a) of the Immigration Regulations 1963. "Meanwhile, a local man who is the owner of the premises was also detained under Section 56(1)(d) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for harbouring foreigners," he said in a statement tonight. Mohd Rusdi said all the detainees were placed at the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for investigation and further action, in addition to being issued three notices to appear at the Immigration Department to assist in the ongoing investigation. "At the same time, we would like to remind the public and employers not to harbour or employ illegal immigrants to work as legal action would be taken against them. "Therefore, employers are advised to contact the nearest immigration office directly to obtain accurate (and authentic) information if there is a party claiming to be able to manage foreign workers," he added. – Bernama

Stop Uploading Or Sharing Unverified Information Related To Zara Qairina's Death
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) is urging all parties to stop any action of uploading or sharing unverified information related to the death of Form One student Zara Qairina Mahathir. Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said police have detected the spread of information and a child's pictures linked to the Zara Qairina case by irresponsible parties on social media. He stated that the shared information is inaccurate and has the potential to confuse the public, besides potentially affecting the ongoing investigation and hindering the process of justice for all involved. "The entire investigation process for the case, including the post-mortem issue, is being conducted according to existing procedures and legal provisions, and all parties are advised to stop any action of uploading or sharing unverified information, including disclosing information related to the case investigation," he said in a statement tonight. Mohd Khalid said the act of disclosing information related to the case can be investigated under Section 15 of the Child Act 2001, which involves a prohibition on revealing the identity, address, school name, and pictures of the child involved, as well as Section 203A of the Penal Code for offenses related to the disclosure of information. "The individuals involved can also be investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of a network facility or network service. Adherence to the law is the basis of national peace and well-being. Any violation will be met with firm action in accordance with existing provisions," he said. Zara Qairina, 13, was confirmed to have died at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 17. The student was taken to the hospital after being found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar at 4 am on July 16. The investigation into the case is currently being finalised by the police after being returned by the Attorney-General's Chambers yesterday.

Foreigner to be charged with murdering housemate in Klang
KUALA LUMPUR: A 34-year-old foreigner will be charged with murder tomorrow over the stabbing death of his housemate at a shoplot residence in Bandar Sentosa, Klang, last month. Klang Selatan deputy police chief Superintendent Kamalariffin Aman Shah said the man will be charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code which carries the death penalty or a jail term of up to 30 years upon conviction. He said the victim, a 28-year-old foreigner, was stabbed in the body and neck during a quarrel with the suspect while drinking alcohol at the premises on July 20. "At the time of the incident, there were seven men and two women, all foreigners, at the residence. "A misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim escalated into a verbal argument before the suspect stabbed the victim, causing his death. "Six men who were present later buried the victim's body in a landfill site about 1km from the house," he said in a statement. Police later arrested five men and two women, aged between 20 and 34, to assist investigations. "The body of the victim and the knife used in the killing were later recovered," he said. Kamalariffin added that five of the male suspects will also be charged under Section 201 of the Penal Code for concealing a body, which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years. He added that all the suspects will face an additional charge under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for not possessing valid travel documents. "All charges will be heard at the Klang Court tomorrow," he said.
