LAHAD DATU: Police seized three motorcycles and issued 12 summonses in the Ops Samseng Jalanan carried out in several locations here on Saturday. District Acting Police Chief, Supt Jimmy Panyau said, the operation which carried out from 9pm to 4.45am aims to curb street thugs involving motorcyclists.
Advertisement He said some areas have been identified as hotspot including in Jalan Pan Borneo, Bandar Fajar, Bandar Sri Perdana and Jalan Airport. 'Following the operation, 12 summons were issued on various offences including for not having a license, no side mirror, exhaust modification and others. 'A total of 42 individuals and 30 vehicles were inspected resulting in three motorcycles were seized under Section 64 of the Road Transport Act 1987,' he said. According to Jimmy, Police will not compromise against street thugs as it may endanger other road users.

Tawau cops seek hit-and-run suspect after jogger injured
KOTA KINABALU: Police in Tawau district are hunting for a hit-and-run suspect who caused a jogger serious injuries in the early hours of Saturday (June 7). Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said in the report received at 4.15am, the 34-year-old victim and a group of around 20 friends had gone jogging at around 3am, prior to the accident. "We were informed that at around 3.50am, one of them who was running ahead had been struck by a four-wheel-drive vehicle," he said in a statement late Sunday (June 8). Following the accident, the victim was thrown into a nearby drain and suffered multiple injuries. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he is being treated for serious head injuries and underwent surgery, said ACP Jasmin, adding that the victim is now in stable condition. "We are hunting for the suspect to facilitate probes under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving," he said. Those with information about the driver can reach out to investigating officer Asst Supt Joan Lee at 019-853 7100. The driver has yet to surrender himself to the police as of press time.

Police hunt pickup driver in Tawau hit-and-run involving jogger
TAWAU: Police are seeking the driver of a Toyota Hilux pickup truck who ran over a jogger along Batu 3, Jalan Apas, in the early hours of yesterday. Tawau police chief Assistant Commissioner Jasmin Hussin said the incident occurred at 3.50am while the 34-year-old victim was jogging with a group of some 20 individuals, heading from a fast-food restaurant towards Bandar Seri Indah. "The victim and two others leading the group were struck from behind by a bronze mica-coloured Toyota Hilux bearing an unknown registration number," he said in a statement today. "At the time of the incident, the victim was running on the right side of the road when he was hit by the vehicle, causing him to be flung into a concrete drain on the left side." Jasmin said the victim sustained head injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the surgical ward at Tawau Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the pickup truck fled the scene and remains at large. "Members of the public with information on the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Assistant Superintendent Joan Lee, at 019-8537100," he added. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving. A closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording of the incident has since gone viral on social media, showing the victim being struck from behind and thrown into a roadside drain.

CCTV footage shows the bronze-coloured Hilux speeding off after the impact, and police are now tracking the driver under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
