Netflix Singapore raises fees for subscription plans again
Streaming giant Netflix has upped the fees of its subscription plans in Singapore once more, following its last price hike just over a year ago.
The increase ranges from $2 to $4 across different plans. Those on the Basic plan previously paying $13.98 now have to pay $15.98, while subscribers of the Standard plan will pay $22.98, up from $19.98.
Premium users are subject to the biggest price increase, with fees going up to $29.98 from $25.98.
In a statement shared with The Straits Times on April 23, Netflix Singapore said: "We offer a range of prices and plans to meet a variety of needs, and as we deliver more value to our members, we occasionally ask them to pay a bit more. We're adjusting prices in Singapore, with memberships starting at $15.98."
Standard and Premium users can use Netflix simultaneously on more than one device, and share the plan across households. They enjoy higher resolution videos compared with subscribers on the Basic plan.
Netflix launched in Singapore in January 2016. At the time, prices for Basic, Standard and Premium plans were $10.98, $13.98 and $16.98 respectively. They have since gone through several rounds of price increases - in January 2020, October 2021 and February 2024.
The streaming service is known for original series such as American science-fiction series Stranger Things (2016 to present), hit K-drama Squid Game (2021 to present) and popular British crime drama Adolescence (2025).
It is also known for distributing acclaimed movies such as Alfonso Cuaron's Roma (2018), which won the Mexican film-maker Best Director at the Oscars, as well as the controversial musical movie Emilia Perez (2024), which bagged Zoe Saldana the Best Supporting Actress trophy.

'Ted Lasso' stars tell Los Angeles to surrender to the World Cup vibe
LOS ANGELES - The creators and stars of award-winning comedy series "Ted Lasso" were among those expressing hope that the World Cup would bring people together at an event in Los Angeles on Wednesday marking the one-year countdown to the tournament. Los Angeles will be one of the main host cities for the soccer showpiece in North America, welcoming eight matches including the United States' first match and a quarter-final. Brendan Hunt, a co-creator and actor in the Apple TV+ show about an upstart British football team with a U.S. coach, said Americans should embrace the influx of visitors from around the world. "What America needs to get ready for with this World Cup is something that most Americans instinctively know, but just to make sure for those who don't - there will be many people here who were not born here," Hunt said during an on-stage interview. "And just because they weren't born here, you don't need to be afraid of them." "Platform used," said fellow co-creator Jason Sudeikis, who plays Lasso on the show. Hunt said the tournament would be incredible. "You have to prepare yourself to surrender to a vibe you've never quite seen before because when folks come to these cities to see their teams play, they will take over in a way that is absolutely as benevolent as it is overwhelming," he added. The countdown to the tournament, which the U.S. is co-hosting with Mexico and Canada, comes on the heels of U.S. President Donald Trump's directive banning citizens from 12 countries from entering the U.S., though athletes are exempt. The Trump administration has also said it will deploy 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles to help protect federal property and personnel during the ongoing protests in the city. The protests broke out in response to a series of immigration raids in a city with a large immigrant population. Cobi Jones, who played for the U.S. in three World Cups, said he hoped the event would be a unifying one. "This is the game we all love and I'm hoping it can bring people together," he told Reuters on the red carpet of the event at Fox Studio Lot in Los Angeles. "When we're talking about the travel bans, I'm hoping that FIFA can work together with our government to find a way that everyone can be here and everyone can enjoy this sport because it's a cultural event that's happening here in a year." FIFA President Gianni Infantino said last month after meeting with U.S. President Trump he was confident visitors would be welcomed for the World Cup as well as the Club World Cup, which runs from June 14 to July 13 and also has matches in Los Angeles. 'Everyone looked at us with pitiful eyes': BTS' Jimin and Jungkook share funny military experiences, Entertainment News
In a Weverse livestream today (June 11), Jimin and Jungkook from K-pop boy band BTS got cosy and talked humorously about their experiences in the military. The duo was discharged earlier this morning, having enlisted into the 5th Infantry Division Artillery Brigade together in December 2023. Jimin, 29, revealed his pre-enlistment anxiety woes, sharing: "I was a mess, super stressed about going into boot camp. Jungkook seemed okay, but I struggled every night after dinner just trying to get through it. He gave me so much strength. "However, once we got our unit assignments, the roles were reversed — Jungkook started having a hard time every day." According to a report by The Korea Herald, Jungkook, 27, served as a cook and Jimin was an artilleryman. For Jimin, it was a surprise that he ended up in the front lines. He admitted: "I didn't think I'd be in the artillery unit. The day we got transferred, the cold wave started. It was probably -20°c, and one of the seniors said it was the second coldest winter in their 20-year career. I was like, 'Why is this happening to us?' "It's a place where you can't help but swear all the time," he remarked. "I enlisted with Jungkook because I thought it'd be better with him — but how were we supposed to know we'd end up at the front line? Everyone looked at us with pitiful eyes that said, 'Why did you come here?' At the time, we didn't have the strength." The idol's time in the military seems to have had a profound impact on his appreciation for soldiers around him. Earlier in the morning after his discharge, Jimin spoke to fans and reporters: "It was my first time in the military, and honestly, it wasn't that easy. If you ever see soldiers passing by, I'd be very grateful if you could offer them kind words." Sharing more training camp stories during the livestream, Jimin and Jungkook reminisced about how they had clung to each other on their first day. "The two of us kept talking. We were just stuck together and no one else was saying a word, but we were the only ones laughing and the rest of them were just like this..." they recounted, as Jimin and Jungkook mimicked a stern posture with arms outstretched, palms on their knees. Jimin added: "When the assistant instructor came, we got really close to him. The platoon commander was great too — he's two years older than me. He treated me as if we were real brothers and he felt like a father to me by the time I was discharged." #Jimin & #Jungkook sharing their first day story at training center..🥹 — BTS Updates, News & Charts ⁷ (@_BTSMoments_) June 11, 2025 Jimin and Jungkook were glued at the hip, as they even happened to sleep next to each other at night. Jimin recalled a bedtime instance that tickled both of them. He explained: "When I was sleeping, I put my arms up by my head. Every time I fell asleep, my dreams had this droning 'tak-tak-tak' construction noise that woke me up. "My arm was so numb that I woke up with a start — and then I saw Jungkook's face, sound asleep on my arm and I realised the noise was him snoring." Jungkook laughed and pleaded guilty, joking: "I guess I wanted to lean on you." He also shared a photo strip the two of them took together in a BTS Festa booth upon the completion of their duties in celebration of their discharge. Yesterday, their fellow bandmates RM and V were discharged from the military as well, holding yet another Weverse livestream. Jin and J-Hope were the first to finish serving the nation in 2024 and have been pursuing solo activities. Suga will be the last member to complete his duties, with his discharge scheduled for June 21. [[nid:718966]]
