Mentors appointed in 56 Delhi government schools, focus on improving performance
This initiative is linked to the 'Mission Mathematics' and special enrichment classes campaign aimed at strengthening foundational understanding of mathematics for classes 6 to 10. The inspection reports will include assessments of subject-wise performance, student attendance, use of teaching-learning materials (TLM), and more. District and zonal officers will oversee the effective implementation of these programmes.
The Delhi government is planning to introduce an ordinance to regulate private school fees. The ordinance may be introduced within a week.

According to sources, the draft of the proposed ordinance, under the 'Delhi School Education Bill, 2025', has already been sent to the Law Department.
The ordinance proposes a fine of up to Rs 50,000 for violations, and in cases of repeated violations, provision has been made for the confiscation of school property.
Committees will be formed at the school, district, and review levels to determine fees.
This bill was initially scheduled to be presented during the special session proposed on May 13-14, but the session could not be held. It will now be introduced as a bill in the upcoming Monsoon Session.
On April 16, show-cause notices were served to 10 schools with regard to the arbitrary fee hike and those who didn't submit their audit reports. The present Delhi government has already collected audited reports from 600 schools.
Previously, while speaking to ANI on the issue of fee hike by private schools, Delhi education minister Ashish Sood said, 'We will create a strong documentation system and tighten the noose around such schools. We will investigate how arbitrary fee hikes were approved in the past and whether any corrupt dealings took place with the previous government. We will not tolerate any such malpractice under any circumstances.'
The matter of the arbitrary fee hike came to the fore when several students in DPS Dwarka were disenrolled when they failed to pay the hiked school fee, and the court intervened. The government also sent a committee that investigated the matter, following which show-cause notices were served to the schools.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also announced previously many times that such fee hikes and harassment of parents and students won't be tolerated. Keeping this in mind, the government plans to introduce this ordinance to curb arbitrary fee hikes.
The Rekha Gupta government aims to provide quality and modern education to every child in the state.
The issue of arbitrary fee hikes by private schools in Delhi has been a longstanding concern, with the Delhi government taking various measures over the years to address it. (ANI)

Cutting across political divide, there is some concern about the impact of Non Resident Bihari voters getting weeded out. ' Naukri, Rozgar, Kushal Bihar – Fir ek baar NDA sarkar" – Posters with these slogans came up outside the JDU office in Patna on Tuesday. Ordinarily, it would seem like an NDA poll pitch with the top two faces of the two alliance partners adorning the walls. But political history watchers were smiling. Exactly 15 years ago, similar pictures of then Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had sprung up across Patna. It was on the eve of BJP National executive and soon after Gujarat had donated Rs 5 crore to Bihar for flood relief. The giant hoardings and the newspaper ads showing Modi and Nitish hand in hand, smiling, reportedly riled the Bihar CM so much that the alliance was ruptured. Nitish Kumar, as per his aides, saw the ads as an attempt to show Bihar and his governance in poor light. Much water has flown down the Ganga since then. Nitish has come back to the NDA fold and promised PM Modi from electoral rally stage never to sever ties again. The latest posters at JDU office is further acknowledgement that if BJP needs Nitish as the face of susashan (good governance) to keep away 'jungle raj", Nitish needs Modi more to keep an aggressive RJD away. Opposition is taking pot-shots at JDU, making references to Nitish Kumar's health. Their charge – BJP will finish JDU as the latter flounders to find a successor for Nitish. The poster is one more weapon in their 'JDU will be over' arsenal. Jungle Raj Banenge, kyun nahi banenge, (I will become CM, why not)" is his reply when media interviewers ask the mandatory 'Are we speaking to the next CM" question. He is on a yatra, press conference, interview giving spree. Taking the jungle raj charge head on, the youngest son of Lalu Prasad asks, 'I was Deputy Chief Minister for 18 months — did people stop stepping out of their homes?" RJD feels that the exercise is only targeting localities which are known to be their stronghold. But cutting across political divide, there is some concern about the impact of Non Resident Bihari voters getting weeded out. The EC estimates 10 per cent of those in Bihar voter list, do not live in the state. CEC Gyanesh Kumar says law does not make any special provision for such cases. He says only ordinary residents can vote. If indeed SIR disallows the migrant Bihari from voting, the impact may not be on the vote bank of any one party.

‘We'll cross that bridge when we come to it': S Jaishankar on US' 500% tariff bill for India
External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar Thursday, addressed the US proposal to impose a 500 per cent tariff on Russian oil imports, saying India will closely monitor developments that could impact its energy security. 'Regarding Senator Lindsey Graham's bill, any development which is happening in the US Congress is of interest to us if it impacts our interest or could impact our interest,' Jaishankar said at a press conference. 'We have been in touch with Senator Graham. The embassy and ambassador have been in touch. Our concerns and our interests in energy, security have been made conversant to him. So, we'll then have to cross that bridge when we come to it, if we come to it.' Graham's bill, which has more than 80 co-sponsors in the Senate, would impose a 500 per cent tariff on imports from any country that trades with Russia for oil, gas, uranium or other products. India to elevate bilateral relationship with Ghana to
Accra [Ghana], July 3 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday (local time) announced that India and Ghana have agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to the level of a 'Comprehensive Partnership,' under which both countries will also step up defence and security cooperation guided by the principle of 'Security through Solidarity,' with Modi describing India as a 'co-traveller' in the African country's journey toward 'nation-building'. The announcement came after bilateral talks between Prime Minister Modi and Ghanaian President John Mahama in Accra. The visit holds significance as it marks the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Ghana in over three decades. Prime Minister Modi announced that both leaders had agreed to deepen cooperation across multiple sectors. 'The President and I have agreed to elevate our bilateral relationship to the level of a 'Comprehensive Partnership.' India is more than just a partner; it stands as a co-traveller in Ghana's journey toward nation-building,' he said. Emphasising defence and security as a key area of engagement, Prime Minister Modi said both nations would advance their collaboration guided by a shared vision. 'In the defence and security sector, we will progress with the guiding principle of 'Security through Solidarity.' Collaboration will be strengthened in key areas such as armed forces training, maritime security, defence supply chains, and cybersecurity,' he said during the joint press briefing.
