The New F1 Movie Used Real Race Cars — And That's Just The Beginning Of Its Insane Realism

Buzz Feed13-03-2025

It feels like we've seen a heap of trailers for the new F1 movie — starring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and Simone Ashley — or we could just be confusing it for the actual Grand Prix happening in Melbourne. Either way, we're here to tell you that the OFFICIAL trailer is finally here! Take a look:
From the Brad Pitt and Damson Idris team up, to the epic racing scenes, it looks like fans will need to buckle up for an adrenaline rush.
Ahead of the trailer drop worldwide, BuzzFeed Australia got the inside scoop at an exclusive event with director Joseph Kosinski. He spilled behind-the-scenes secrets — from the tech used in the film to how Brad Pitt's natural driving skills surprised everyone.
Kosinski is no stranger to creating high-speed, heart-pounding cinematic experiences. From the futuristic light cycles of Tron: Legacy to the thunderous jets of Top Gun: Maverick, Kosinski has proven time and again that he has a "need for speed".
When asked about how he recreated the high speed and intense nature of the sport, the F1 director mentioned reaching out to Lewis Hamilton, who connected him with Toto Wolff — the team principal of Mercedes.
"I started talking with them about wanting to capture the speed of this sport, and it was actually Toto who came up with the idea of, rather than making a movie car fast enough to achieve these speeds, he said, 'Why don't you start with a race car and take a real race car and then work the cameras that you need into that."
So that's what Kosinki did. The F1 production team purchased six real race cars "and worked with Mercedes AMG, the Formula One team and their engineers to build real race cars that could carry our camera equipment, recorders and transmitters" to create ✨authenticity✨.
But it wasn't just the cars, the actors immersed themselves in the reality of the sport too. "Every time you see Brad or Damson driving in this movie, they're driving on their own in one of these real race cars on a real F1 track. That's how we approached the making of this film."
The reactions to the trailer are already rolling in, and despite the failed search for glimpses of Lando Norris and Simone Ashley, one thing's for absolute certain — F1 is going to get our hearts racing.
F1 trailer is absolutely fantastic. I'm a big fan of the way Kosinski has shot the racing scenes, Brad Pitt looks amazing, and I'm excited to see the dynamic Damson Idris. pic.twitter.com/XhCazvnxKx

How 22-year-old Supercars leader is handling the hype

Two race wins, three podiums and one pole - this Supercars haul is nothing special to Broc Feeney. The 22-year-old has surged from fourth to first in the series standings in one weekend, but won't be getting carried away with it. The Red Bull ace is putting off championship talk as he eyes a complete sweep at Perth's Wanneroo Raceway this weekend to back up his near-perfect performance in Tasmania. "I don't think that I've really done anything too special," Feeney told AAP. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Broc Feeney (@brocfeeney93) "I've won a few races and I'm leading the points. To me, that doesn't really mean much. I want to win a championship. "The big one for me is, no one's really backed up a good result from the weekend before, so I want to roll out in Perth and go one better - get three race wins. "All the other stats for me, I'm not really worried about it." What is Feeney worried about? Mistakes. The youngster wants to make as little of them as possible, given his slim 33-point lead over teammate and reigning champion Will Brown. Cam Waters is the only driver so far to have pulled off a weekend sweep, cleaning out Sydney after spectacularly winning the second race with a 0.0308-second margin over Feeney. But Tickford driver Waters, who re-committed to the Ford team amid interest from Chevrolet, has yet to recapture his dominance and dropped to fourth in the championship. Grove Racing's Matt Payne is third after denying Feeney in Tasmania, winning by 0.0550 seconds after starting the final sprint in 11th. "The championship could be even better for me without a couple of hiccups along the way," Feeney said. "It's just putting it together and not really having many mistakes - like at the Grand Prix, I qualified on pole four times and I won one race. "I'm in my fourth year now, so I expect to be at a level where I can drive well enough and execute." A 'no mistakes' approach is key at the 2.4km-long Western Australian track, where clinching pole position is as crucial as ever. The tight raceway has just seven turns, giving little room for overtaking. The past seven races held at Wanneroo have been won from pole position, with a total of 69 out of 97 races since 1973 won from the front row. Clean air will also be an advantage, with drivers dialling up on-track aggression following a relaxing of racing rules. "It's pretty wild. I've been pretty lucky to stay out of it for most of the year," Feeney said. "The further you go down the pack, the more out of control it gets and the more wild it is. "It's something different. It's exciting for the fans. Sometimes it's exciting for us, other times not. "It's just going to be about qualifying well and staying out of trouble, which is a lot easier said than done." Supercars action gets underway at Wanneroo Raceway on Friday, with practice starting at 2.05pm (AEST).

Brad Pitt's best war movie isn't the one you think — and you can watch it on Tubi for free

Like a lot of people, I thought I knew what to expect from war movies. So when "Fury" first hit theaters in 2014, I wrote it off as just another addition to an already-crowded genre. But I went to see it anyway, and when I left the theater absolutely dazzled by what I saw. "Fury" is a brutal, unflinching look at the final days of World War II, but it's also something more intimate. It's a story about five men stuck in a steel coffin of a tank, each worn down by violence, each clinging to whatever scrap of humanity they have left. It's tense, emotionally raw, and remarkably grounded, with performances that have stuck with me ever since I went to see the movie over a decade ago. Some may have dismissed it as just another war flick, but "Fury" does something rare by giving you discomfort, humor and humanity all wrapped up into one. And it's Brad Pitt's best war movie — yes, even better than "Inglourious Basterds." Now streaming on Tubi as of this month, "Fury" is worth revisiting or watching for the first time if you missed it back then. Don 'Wardaddy' Collier, played by Brad Pitt, is a grizzled tank commander fighting his way through the final days of World War II. Shaped by years of violence and sacrifice, he's committed to keeping his crew alive at any cost. That crew includes Boyd 'Bible' Swan (Shia LaBeouf), a sharpshooter, the loudmouthed Grady (Jon Bernthal), the quick-witted driver Gordo (Michael Peña), and a fresh-faced new gunner named Norman (Logan Lerman), who's been thrown into the war with zero combat experience. Norman's arrival changes the dynamic inside their Sherman tank, nicknamed Fury. He's soft-spoken, untrained, and completely unprepared for war. But there's no time to ease in. The team is deep behind enemy lines, and Wardaddy makes it clear: learn fast, or die faster. "Fury" paints a picture of what happens when idealistic newcomers crash headfirst into the horrors of war. There are no heroes here, just survivors. And for Norman, survival means losing parts of himself he might never get back, which is something he has to become accustomed to. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. "Fury" throws you right into the dirt and metal with a crew that feels lived-in from the first frame, and it doesn't let you come up for air. It's got an explosive cast (diabolical work bringing Brad Pitt together with Shia LaBeouf), and the battles are intense. Even so, what makes this war flick stick is everything happening between the gunfire. You don't need to be a war movie person to get something out of this. If you've ever appreciated a film that forces its characters to confront who they are when survival is the only goal, this hits that note. Pitt is excellent, but Logan Lerman is the real emotional anchor here, playing a kid who has to grow up fast in the worst possible circumstances. "Fury" streaming free on Tubi, which makes now the perfect time to give it a shot. Just know this isn't a background movie. You'll want to take some time to sit with it afterward. Five of the last six Monaco GPs have been won by the driver who lined up at the front of the grid, the sole exception coming in 2022, when a downpour and a disastrous Ferrari pit stop conspired to deny Charles Leclerc. Advertisement So to shake things up a little, the drivers will have to make a minimum of two pit stops. It's a tweak that could have the desired effect, but only if the drivers make something of it. The backmarkers have an incentive to get both of their pit stops out of the way early, for instance, while teamwork could prove effective at the front, if one driver backs up the field while the other dives in for maintenance. The latter is a fascinating prospect from the perspective of McLaren and Ferrari. Oscar Piastri only qualified in 3rd but is leading the drivers' standings and looks a more convincing title contender than Norris, while Lewis Hamilton might not take too kindly to playing second fiddle his teammate, despite Leclerc's superb record here.
