ITV forced to halt filming of Stephen Mulhern show after fire on set
Filming of Stephen Mulhern's game show You Bet! was brought to a halt due to a fire on set.
The Saturday Night Takeaway and Dancing On Ice host, 48, was working on the ITV show in Yorkshire at the time, shooting a special Emmerdale segment.
It's been reported that a car burst into flames, with the fire spreading to prop vans used by crew members.
As a result, thousands of pounds worth of equipment went up in smoke.
According to MailOnline, two fire engines were called to the scene.
An eyewitness described what unfolded as 'carnage'.
'The blaze just started from a random vehicle, which then resulted in vans used by the crew also going up in flames,' they explained.
'There was obvious panic, and it's a miracle nobody was harmed.'
It's said the fire started 'within close proximity to the soap,' but thankfully, it didn't spread inside where filming actually happens.
Speaking after the incident, a spokesperson for You Bet! also said: 'Following an incident that was unrelated to filming, production for You Bet! was suspended as a precaution.
'The situation was promptly assessed by the fire services, and no one was injured or affected.
'The health and safety of all individuals involved in the making of the programme remains our highest priority.'
Also confirming their attendance to the matter, a spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire Service explained that they were called to 'reports of a small vehicle on fire on Harewood Avenue' at 3:57pm on Friday.
On the arrival of their two crews, the fires were extinguished. The cause has been recorded as accidental.
Photos from the scene illustrate the extent of the damage, showing how the blaze completely destroyed what was inside the trucks.
The set was located on the grounds of Harewood House in Leeds, with Mulhern there to record a challenge to appear in the upcoming series.
Filming of the programme – which is a revival of the original format, which first aired in 1988 – will continue this week.
In August 2024, ITV announced that Mulhern and Holly Willoughby would front two special episodes of You Bet!, in which a celebrity panel bets on the ability of members of the public to accomplish typically unlikely challenges and stunts.
It was later revealed that Catchphrase host Mulhern would host the next full series solo, with Willoughby having quit in March.
The reboot will comprise seven episodes and a Christmas special, but, in a twist to the format, each will be filmed in different locations across the country.
An ITV spokesman said previously about the switch-up: 'Free from the restrictions of the studio, our epic challenges are about to get a whole lot bigger.
'Watching on, our celebrity panel's job is simple; they must decide if each challenger will succeed – yes or no. If they guess correctly, they'll be awarded points.
'The Celebrity with the most points at the end of the show will receive £5,000 for their chosen charity.'
You Bet! will be aptly renamed You Bet! On Tour for the upcoming series, and bosses are hoping Willoughby will be up for returning at some point as a guest panellist.
Other famous panel members will include Zoe Ball, Rob Beckett, Alex Brooker, Rylan Clark, Alesha Dixon, Alison Hammond, and Danny Jones. More Trending
Speaking ahead of its release, Mulhern – who recently left his lucrative role at Butlin's – expressed his excitement: 'I'm absolutely thrilled that YouBet! is back – and this time we're hitting the road!
'Each week, I'll be joined by a top celeb panel as our challengers take on some brilliantly bonkers and amazing challenges.
'With the title of You Bet Champion on the line, it's going to be unbelievable from the start.'

You Bet! was originally hosted by Sir Bruce Forsyth from 1988 to 90, before Matthew Kelly took over from 1991 to 1995. Darren Day then hosted from 1996 to 1997.

ITV series Blind Date is being rebooted by Disney Plus
Blind Date, the iconic British dating show which aired in the 1980s, is coming back. Disney Plus has announced that the "ultimate dating series" is being "reimagined for a contemporary audience". However, it is said the new show will have "unique, innovative and head-turning format twists". NEW 🚨 Disney+ are rebooting #BlindDate in their first step into UK based reality TV! The new format will see the iconic wall return with 3 blind-daters behind, but the daters will now spend a summer living together… with potential new partners always lurking behind the wall 👀 The original Blind Date, hosted by Cilla Black, originally ran on Saturday nights from 1985 to on ITV. The show was rebooted once before, in 2017, on Channel 5 and was presented by Paul O'Grady. The show's format saw three single people, who were behind a curtain, introduced to the audience. They were then asked a question by another individual, who could hear but not see them, who then picked one to go on a date with. The couple then picked an envelope naming their destination and in the following episode, the couple's date was shown. The new Disney Plus series will still feature the blind date aspect but will also have a new format. Explaining the show, Disney Plus said: "The ultimate dating series Blind Date is back - bigger, better, and bolder than ever. "The new series will begin in a secret Blind Date location, where contestants must choose between three potential suitors, hidden from view behind the legendary Blind Date wall, the only thing standing between them and their potential true love just metres away. "With a host of unique, innovative and head-turning format twists, our daters will see if forever love can truly grow as they spend the summer living together but potential new partners are always lurking behind the wall." Sean Doyle, executive director of Unscripted at Disney Plus, added: "Blind Date is a brilliant opportunity to bring everyone's favourite dating show to a large scale with the potential to resonate with a whole new generation." Following the announcement, fans of the show took to social media with excitement. However, many were keen for the show to keep its original format in the reboot. One said: "Needs to be ITV Saturday night, but don't mess with the format, going to spoil it keep it the original format." Recommended reading: Another added: "Is this a wind-up? They've turned a classic show into a Love Island style version..." A third said: "No need to mess with the format, when you mess with established formats, that's when they fail. Blind Date mixing in reality TV element is not needed." Production will begin on Blind Date later this year, with further details set to be announced in due course.

The Chase hit by ‘fix' claims as chaser Jenny Ryan wins after controversial answer
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THE Chase has been hit by fix claims after viewers insisted Jenny Ryan won after giving a WRONG answer. The popular ITV quiz format recently aired a repeated episode of the programme in which many viewers claim that a wrong answer was accepted as correct - and ultimately caused the team to lose against The Vixen. Sign up for the Entertainment newsletter Sign up 3 Jenny Ryan's answer on The Chase has proved a talking point Credit: ITV 3 Fans have insisted she gave an incorrect answer on the show Credit: ITV In the episode, hosted as always by Bradley Walsh, Jenny was taking on the day's remaining players in the Final Chase round. Nick from Liverpool, Laura from Bolton, Aiden from Falkirk, and Vivienne from Bracknell, were all hoping to prove successful and show that they had better brains than flame-haired Jenny. As the episode neared its end, only Laura and Nick managed to make it through as they played for a rather small final amount of £3,000. They correctly got 14 answers before Jenny did her best to try and better them. But as her round of questions got underway, one of them became a talking point online. Bradley asked Jenny: 'What colour indicates semi-skimmed milk on bottles?' It took Jenny a few seconds to give an answer as it became clear that she was not overly confident on the question. Having paused for a few moments, she then replied to Bradley, saying: "It's red and silver." Bradley immediately told her that he would "accept" her answer but it instantly sparked furore online. Many were quick to argue that semi-skimmed milk featured a green top and that Jenny's answer was incorrect and should have been voided. The Chase fans left screaming as player gets 'ridiculously easy' question wrong - but would you know the answer- Reacting in shock online, one fan penned: 'Excuse me? Semi-skimmed is GREEN!' Another also echoed the sentiment as they wrote: 'Incorrect answer from #TheVixen given as correct? They were one correct answer away from winning!' A third went on to write: 'Semi-skimmed milk carton tops are Green (or white), NOT RED, which is skimmed milk... What is going on here?' Before someone else stated: 'Am I going mad? I'm sure the question was about the colour of tops on semi-skimmed milk. "The Chaser said red and silver... it's green. Or did I mishear?' Jenny's answer was not wholly incorrect as it appeared that she was referring to traditional glass bottles often delivered by milkmen. Glass bottled semi-skimmed milk has traditionally featured a red and silver top. However, when bought from supermarkets in a carton, which is the more widely accessible option, the bottle lid is in fact green. It is likely that Jenny took the question literally to make sure she referred to a "bottle" as opposed to a carton in order to ensure a correct answer was given. The Chase's best moments The Chase has been entertaining ITV viewers for years, here are some of the show's most memorable moments... Bradley Walsh can't stop laughing Every time host Bradley Walsh erupts into fits of laughter on The Chase it makes for pretty entertaining TV. One particularly memorable occasion was when he was asking the question 'The title of which Elvis Presley song was engraved of the inside of Freddie Star's coffin?" As usual the contestant was given four multiple choices but Bradley could get through reading them out before bursting into hysterics. Seeming the idea of the song being option 'B: Way Down' was too much for the presenter to handle. The Double Trouble special To celebrate 15 years of The Chase on screens, ITV launched a special 'double trouble' episode where contestants faced off against not one but two of the show's beloved Chasers. And despite the odds, the contestants managed to go home with some cash! The contestants with famous names Eagle-eyed ITV fans are always quick to spot interesting and sometimes hidden details on the quiz show - but there have been a few times where the names of some contestants have been overtly obvious. For example, one 2017 episode of the quiz show saw Bradley welcome four contestants who were named after Friends characters Ross, Rachel, Phoebe and Joey. Another group of contestants with named from The Simpsons were also grouped together in another episode, much to viewers' amusement. The Beast's anger gets the best of him During an episode from the 2024 season, Mark Labbett let out his inner beast as he exploded in a fit of anger. Close to losing the competition in the Final Chase, Mark then made a silly mistake and incorrectly answered the question, 'Rabbit was a 1980 hit for which Cockney duo?' 'Oh, you idiot!' he yelled at himself while slamming the table in front of him. With seconds left on the clock, the Chaser then admitted defeat, moaning "I don't deserve to win."
