'I've always struggled to find shorts that fit my curves until these £27.50 ones'

Daily Mirror2 days ago
Shopping writer Lauren has struggled all summer to find the perfect pair of shorts for her fuller bum and smaller waist - until now
I've always floated somewhere between a size 8 and 10, but since hitting my thirties, my body has shifted - primarily, my bum has grown into more of a size 12. No complaints here, but adapting to this change hasn't been the easiest, especially when it comes to summer dressing.
Finding a pair of shorts that fit my waist and hips comfortably has felt like an Olympic sport, and I've been failing miserably. So when I spotted Joanie's Pipette Gingham High-Waist Shorts in the sale, I snapped them up quickly, albeit with low expectations. I've been burned before, returning pairs from Stradivarius and Nobody's Child.
But to my surprise and delight, Joanie's organic cotton shorts actually fit. They're high-waisted and slightly structured, with a silhouette that hugs all the right places.
There's enough room at the waistband to keep me comfortable (even on a bloated day), and they don't cut into my thighs or ride up when I sit down or walk. They're fitted without being restrictive, and for someone who's never been into oversized or baggy shorts, I was relieved I didn't have to compromise on style.
They're a great addition to plain outfits, such as a simple black t-shirt and sandals, but also work well with my navy pinstriped blazer, gold jewellery and white trainers. There is also a matching blazer available for those who adore the coordinated look.

They aren't perfect, though. They crease easily - as cotton often does - but the gingham print does a decent job of disguising it, so it doesn't bother me too much. And considering how confident they make me feel, it's a small price to pay.
For those with a similar shape, there are more options out there. For instance, Levi's 501 Mid Thigh Shorts, £42, give that vintage curve-hugging fit, though you might want to size up for comfort. They're available in three colours: light blue, mid blue and dark blue.
Otherwise, H&M's Bermuda Shorts, £22.99, are another style to consider. Their longer inseam provides more coverage on the thighs to prevent chafing, while the extra length helps balance out proportions.
However, the Joanie shorts have officially earned their place in my summer wardrobe. They're available via Joanie here.
