
One trapped, one thrown out in Bongawan van accident
Published on: Fri, May 09, 2025 Text Size: The crash scene. - Pic by JBPM PAPAR: A van veered off the road in Jalan Telantang Ulu Tenal, Bongawan, here, leaving two individuals injured in a self-skidded crash on Friday evening. One of the victims was thrown out of the Nissan Urvan while the other was trapped inside the vehicle. Fire and Rescue personnel from Kimanis Fire Station arrived at the scene within 20 minutes after receiving an emergency call at 6pm, and extricated the trapped victim using special rescue tools. Zara's remains sent to QEH for post-mortem

Her remains were transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) in Kota Kinabalu, where a post-mortem is scheduled for Sunday morning. Advertisement The Papar Magistrate's Court had earlier granted an exhumation order following a request by the Investigating Officer, with the process witnessed by family members, legal representatives, and relevant authorities. The Attorney-General's Chambers had on Friday instructed police to proceed with the exhumation after reviewing the preliminary investigation report and issuing directives to gather further evidence. Community stands by family during Zara Qairina's exhumation

SIPITANG: Around 100 residents, including relatives of 13-year-old Zara Qairina Mahathir, gathered at Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol on Saturday despite persistent rain to witness the exhumation of her body. They waited outside the burial grounds under umbrellas as police restricted entry to the area. Advertisement Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun led the police team, joined by family lawyers Hamid Ismail and Shahlan Jufri, a magistrate, deputy public prosecutors, Sabah Islamic Affairs Department officers, and the cemetery committee, arriving at about 5pm. Zara's parents, including her father Mahathir Hashim, and her grandparent were also present during the process, which began at 5.30pm and was still underway at press time.
